Myself and my girlfriend booked to stay in the Garden Studio for my 25th birthday - we’d been excited about it for weeks and in the end, our stay here ruined the entire weekend. On arrival, both numbers in our welcome email went unanswered on multiple occasions and after parking a good ten minute walk away (there’s parking out front, but it’ll be likely taken if you arrive outside of weekday working hours) we lugged our bags down into our home for the next two days.
It was clear on entry the room had not been cleaned properly - dust covered most all the surfaces and floor, the smell of smoke was still evident from a previous guest, the wine that is promised for weekend stay’s was not left, only one towel between two people for hands, dish drying and showering was left and the fridge - which we had been depending on using for some purchases, was defrosting - and due to this, would not close, leaving the veg drawer floating in rapidly pooling water that would have flooded the kitchen had we not turned it down to essentially freeze everything in there. (This made gave our newly purchased salmon, juice and cheesecake that half-frozen texture of mush by the time we ate them).
Mark informed us that it was "awaiting a repair but we had back to back bookings and are unable to defrost it". This would have been useful information to have before we bought perishables.
We got the train into London and called the ‘emergency’ number, which a nice guy answered and subsequently informed us that it was ’normal’ for the given numbers not to be answered, and that he was usually tasked with making sure things were actually dealt with. Sadly, on our return, it was evident nobody had been to look at the fridge, clean the apartment or even provide another towel.
The next morning, we did our best to clean the kitchen, tucked into mushy salmon and slushy juice and, after I had to leave the flat to acquiesce a towel from Kitty, the cleaner (who finally provided our wine after we asked), my girlfriend showered. After only a few minutes, the bath filled up as the plughole was clearly blocked; as this patently disgusted her, she did not stay in long. Sadly, when I entered, the hot water was no more, and I was forced to have a cold shower. The electric shower that has clearly been installed for this reason was not in use.
It’s worth noting now that in my previous trip out to get a towel, Kitty the housekeeper was also being informed by a French family that their freezer had broken too. She politely stated that after cleaning rooms which needed checking-out, she would come down, but that it wouldn’t be for a few hours.
After messaging Ei8ht on Facebook, Mark, the owner informed me Luke would be in touch, as he was out of the country. Sadly, we didn’t get reception being in the basement and missed his calls whilst waiting for Kitty, but, admittedly, we also missed one when out having a late lunch too after. Regardless, before we left, Kitty came down and we pointed out the errors - this was around 2/3pm. Whilst Kitty was cleaning and rectifying the misgivings of the apartment as we were out, Mark and Luke offered us use of a Cottage instead - a gesture I appreciated the offer of, but given we only needed room for two guests, not six, and packing and moving ourselves would have been at least an hours effort, given the amount of trips to and from the car it took in the first place, I declined.
To top this all off, our heating failed to work on our final night - without it, those apartments are COLD. We thus informed the emergency number, also, to no avail.
When we returned on the Sunday from town, we found Kitty had given us three towels (as the room slept three) as well as a tea towel, and flannels. She had also cleaned the apartment and unblocked the bath, as well a ventilated the flat even more to remove the smell of smoke.
We arrived on Saturday, and the apartment really wasn’t acceptable to take guests until at least...
Read moreMark, what a location. What a place. This was truly such a wonderful stay. Just a (hefty) stones throw from the beach. Now, it may not have been big, but the apartment was........well equipped. At least 50 champagne glasses, despite being told we were not allowed to host parties? Cruelly tempting. We LOVED the coffee machine. Shower pressure was, to be honest, subpar. I would describe it as a weak trickle. More full length mirrors required, as when three girls are trying to put on makeup simultaneously it becomes somewhat......hostile. We only just noticed that there was a fireplace and we love it. 10/10. If i were you, I would reconsider your carpet choice. Stripes are so last spring. I also wouldn’t have put the table directly in the corner it did NOT compliment the feng shui of the room. I would also replace the bin, it didn’t fit the vibe. We were impressed by the size of the fridge, and as a result we have left you some vegetarian sausages on the top shelf. We felt perfectly safe until we woke up in the morning and realised the door had not shut properly, but that might have been our fault. The bed was so comfortable that one of our members fell asleep at an embarrassing 11pm. Now, on to the real star of the show. We are sitting on it now. The showstopper. Your balcony. Well well well. Mark. MARK. Your balcony is s p e c t a c u l a r. A bit dirty, and with an odd stool choice, but so entertaining. All in all, we would highly recommend the beach pad as both beachy and paddy. Just a word of warning, though. If parallel parking is not a strength of yours, I would consider somewhere else. ps thanks for the permits babes and we apologise for spamming you with phone calls during you...
Read moreWould recommend the garden studio apartment! It was very clean (most important factor!) and nicely decorated. Shower water pressure and hot water was great and powerful. It is pet friendly - the charge per pet per stay is £25. Having access to a patio garden when you have a dog is so useful and convenient. Location is perfect too, 5 minutes to the beach and 10 minutes to Queen’s Park. It is a basement flat so you have to be careful going down the narrow basement stairs. Residential parking permits available for £15 per day, would highly recommend getting this as plenty of street parking is available to utilise this permit. Room for improvement: Garden isn’t private whatsoever, around 6 or 8 windows from other rooms overlook it, please add a small canopy or parasol umbrella so that there can be some privacy and also shelter from the rain. Dog friendly but no adjustments made for dog, there is no dog poop bin given for outside or dog bowls / mats. No recycling facilities - only one black bag given. Sponge and wash cloth was provided, but no dish drainer or rack. Hand wash provided but no shower gel. Only 1 and half toilet roll provided for 4 night stay. Complementary breakfast is some cereal bars, cereal boxes, juice and milk, not sure if they accommodate for dietary requests but one of us is vegan so couldn’t have anything. The TV can only be watched from the sofa bed, adding a swivel mount would allow it to be watched from the bed. There is no mobile network available in the room, WiFi is available but not great, connectivity should be improved. A full length mirror would...
