From the outside of the establishment we had high hopes of a decent breakfast.
Unfortunately it was a classic case of not judging a book by it's cover.
We got off to a reasonable start with our coffee's coming out in about 10 minutes.
The first sign that things weren't right was the dirty cutlery on the table which we asked to be replaced which was undertaken with an apology which was totally acceptable.
Ten minutes slowly turned into twenty and then thirty. The woman who took our order came over to double check we'd ordered. Very alarming.
Another ten minutes later she returned and said it wouldn't be much longer as it was being cooked. This was proved to be untrue as we continued to wait for much longer than it would have taken to cook the food from the beginning.
Whilst we were waiting entertainment was provided in the way of a table of customers cancelling their order after waiting for so long. The woman behind the counter asked for them to pay for the coffee's they'd had. This was met with several expletives from the customer and the cash being thrown at them! Brilliant entertainment.
As we waited we sat and watched food just sitting at the serving hatch and staff just walking past it. Unfortunately this happened with ours. When the food did eventually arrived it was barely luke warm.
At first glance of the full English we noticed the beans were missing. We informed the woman who went back to the kitchen. Whilst doing so we noticed several other missing items. Avocado, and tomato were promised on the menu but weren't on the plate. After returning with luke warm baked beans (how is that even possible, straight from the kitchen?) we mentioned the other missing items. Back to the kitchen she went but this time never to return.
After waiting another five minutes for the missing items we gave up and left.
On the way out the woman said thanks. But with no mention of the aforementioned missing items. Go figure.
A complete waste of an hour and ÂŁ30, an utter shambles.
We will forever remember our breakfast in Kemptown for all the...
Read moreI've been here twice recently and whilst the experiences haven't been terrible, they've been haphazard and the experience not what you'd expect considering the prices. On one visit there was no table for us despite us having a booking, because "we didn't check the bookings this morning." No apology offered and we were sat in the shared working area at the back to wait for a table. The staff are friendly when approached but if you want anything you need to find them, they come and take your order when you sit down but don't come over again to check everything is alright, see if you'd like anything else or bring you the bill, you have to approach the counter. The food is tasty, but sometimes feels overpriced. On our first visit the food was brilliant, all six of us agreed. On our second visit we had some of the new menu items from the range of Smørrebrød. We didn't receive Smørrebrød, we received avocado on sourdough toast and mushroom on sourdough toast, overpriced at £9 each. Disappointingly, we also wanted to order some doughnuts which were labelled as vegan but it turns out they weren't vegan, they didn't remove the vegan label after we had a conversation about it so if you're vegan or intolerant it's best to check before you buy. On one visit the toilets were out of order and flooding in to the restaurant, something we weren't aware of until we had finished our meals and needed to use them, no apology offered for this. On the second visit I used the toilet but could find no facilities to dry my hands. The only member of staff I could find was the chef, when I asked him for something with which to dry my hands he seemed confused and said they don't have anything. When pushed he went and dug out a roll of toilet paper from the store room for me. Overall, the restaurant is pretty and the staff are nice if inattentive. The food is tasty, with quality ingredients. It's all just a little rough...
Read moreShocking customer service. Went in just before lunchtime and asked for a table for drinks. We sat down and ordered a bottle of Prosecco and said we just wanted drinks. The server was lovely. I noticed the (what I think was) the manager looking at us a lot and she came over and asked us for IDs, absolutely fine as I understand the think 25 process and we are in our mid 20s. She spent a very long time looking at our IDs and looking at us very suspiciously. After a little more time the waitress came and said she was sorry and that she didnât realise but we need to order food with the alcohol due to the license. We had a lunch reservation soon after at another restaurant so asked for just some chips. After we ordered a short while went by and the manager came over and said that the chips werenât enough and we needed to order a meal to drink. At this point we are halfway through our first glasses from an opened bottle of Prosecco. She was very rude and at the beginning was very confrontational and offered no alternative. I explained that we didnât want to order a meal and that we just wanted drinks (we told them this from the beginning). She explained that she has had warnings from the council that they are being monitored (slightly worrying!) and that we could be the police or council so she wouldnât let us finish the drinks and pay. Again she was rude and confrontational. After a while of telling us that we need to understand and we canât have the bottle she said that we could leave and not pay for the Prosecco, this was fine with us as we didnât want to be subject to her distanced glares, odd looks or confrontational behaviour anymore. All round a very bad experience and bless the waitress she was so lovely and itâs not her fault at all but the manager had such poor customers service skills and in no way made us feel comfortable or explained the...
