Andy does a good impersonation of Basil Faulty, but does not evoke any humour. Our catalogue of events include||- On our way to the place we rang to enquire if off-road parking was available. After shouting one word “YES” he put the phone down.||- on entry to the car park (admittedly a tricky entrance from a busy trunk road that makes reversing in quite impossible without stopping the passing traffic) Andy, the owner began to gesticulate first through the window and then from the main door shouting “can’t you women reverse a car?” and “facing that way you’ll never get out of here if someone parks behind you!” He failed to understand the stupidity of this statement.||- we were prompted to say that he was very unwelcoming and unpleasant. He failed to understand why we felt so offended.||- true to our kindly characters we made every effort to coax him out of his vexation, but every effort was rebuffed, indeed fuelled his irritation eg “so, do you have a lot of problems with parking in the car park?” Answer : Yes! All the time! Sometimes it’s so bad the Police get involved cos people get so angry. I wish I didn’t have a car park, it’s nothing but ….. trouble”. Every attempt to chat about even the most mundane subject seemed to rile him.||After completing the registration form we were given the keys to room No. 5. The bed linen was clean, but the room and its sparse contents were shabby. Superficially the bathroom was clean but don’t examine too closely. Rolls of hair and dust have accumulated in every knock and cranny.||||After a walk around the town and further consideration we decided that we did not want to return for the bed or the breakfast. We simply returned the key and told him we had decided not to accept the remainder of any hospitality he may have. As we predicted he may become enraged we did not request any refund nor was it offered. However, it would satisfy us if reviews such as ours would serve to warn other unsuspecting guests to consider an alternative.||||We will never be privy to why Andy is so angry and unpleasant. If he has troubles in his life we wish for them to be resolved. We wish him health and happiness. We sincerely wish for him to find peace soon.||||We had looked forward to a fun, relaxing and memorable weekend stay. We got all three in buckets’ full, just not in this place. Our encounter with Andy at Lakes Lodge was certainly memorable, for all the...

Read moreThis place is very over priced for the quality of the room. The bathroom was old and dated with urine stains around the toilet base and blacked plug holes from age. The bedroom carpet was worn and even ripped in one place. The building itself smells old and fusty. The owner seems very abrupt bordering on rude. We asked if he could recommend anywhere to eat in the evening and told us to drive 2 miles down the road to a pub but if we couldn't get parked when we got back then it was basically tough luck. As we'd come for a romantic night away neither me or my husband wanted to drive in the evening. He then kept telling us we couldn't bring food back to our room as if that was what we were planning. After spending the afternoon in the village and the neighbouring village of Bowness we tried to find somewhere for an evening meal which proved to be impossible, half the restaurants are closed Mondays and Tuesdays and those that aren't were either booked up for the evening or didn't take bookings and suggested to try again in 20 minutes along with other families/couples trying to get a table. This was just the final straw to our "romantic" night away after paying £115 for a substandard room and now been unable to get a evening meal that we checked out of the room and drove the 2...
