I have dined at The Pig 2 years ago and I was very impressed by the Pig platter then, and have been wanting to try it again. Unfortunately, during my return last week, I was left disappointed as there was a big drop in the standard of the food. I ordered the Pig platter but I could not recreate the experience I had 2 years ago. The scotch egg was replaced by a very average pork pie. Pork cracklings was no longer in the platter. The main disappointment was the pork belly - it was not succulent like it used to be, and the skin was not crispy - it was just such a huge drop in quality. The pulled pork did not taste good, it is too finely pulled and you can't get the nice texture of the pulled pork, and the barbecue sauce overwhelmed the flavour of the pork. Here I attach the two photos for comparison. I have not tried the other food here so I can't comment but appearance wise they do look quite good. In summary, the Pig platter, which used to be my favourite, has shown a big drop in quality. I hope the restaurant will look into this and perhaps do some tweaking to improve the quality of the Pig platter - after all, the name of the restaurant suggests that they should excel at all things pork.

Went to The Pig looking for a late lunch and was pleasantly surprised to find quite an interesting menu; other than its namesake and the usual pizza and burgers. My husband and friend had the Fish and Chips while another guy had the pasty. I had the best dish of all - the Confit Duck Leg. Fish and Chips was good with a big piece of battered fish which was light and crunchy and huge juicy wedges. Portion was big. The pasty was pretty good served with salad. But the duck leg had all our votes. It was glistening with crispy roasted 'yummyness'. Accompanied by pak choi, baby carrots and a piece of leek, the tender duck meat was perfect with a berry sauce. I told my husband if I live in Windermere, I'll go every week to try a different dish till I go through the menu. Very very special :) What a great find!

We went here for dinner as most places in the area were already closed after 5pm. This spot caught our eye, so we decided to give it a try. It looked small and was quite busy inside, but they had more seating in the back. We chose a table by the window, which was great for some fresh air and just the right level of background noise. We ordered the cheese steakburger and the veggie cheeseburger – both were amazing! The burgers were a perfect size, served with a generous portion of really tasty fries. We had ketchup, mayo, and diet coke on the side. The prices felt fair for the quality and portion size. Honestly, it was one of the tastiest burgers I’ve had. Definitely recommend! Also, the girl who served us was super nice and professional.

As coeliacs we were pleasantly surprised to find out that 50%+ of the menu was GF and that all of the fried products were gluten free so no risk of cross contamination! The starters were great however things took a turn when we received our mains. We ordered 2 fish and chips and when they arrived it was just that, Fish and a few chips… even though on the menu it states mushy peas. We waited a few minutes to see if anyone would return with our portions however they did not so we got up and asked a member of staff who just said “oh ye they have ran out but do you want us to put some green beans on for you” in which we accepted but it’s not the same thing 🤷🏼‍♀️. Not once when we were ordering or waiting for our food did anyone inform us of this shortage which leads us to believe they were hoping we just ‘wouldn’t notice’ the peas missing. Also the mash with the steak and ale pie is powdered and horrible. 10 minutes we received our ONE portion of HARD COLD green beans in a tiny bowl. During our whole main meal we were not checked on once despite the restaurant being near enough empty and staff just standing around chatting. When a blonde lady wearing black came to clear our plates we did confront her about our dissatisfaction and disappointment in a pleasant way about the beans and general meal and expressed how we just wish it had been mentioned prior and all she responded with was ‘must have slipped my mind’ in a very rude and unapologetic way. Once we had this confrontation we did not see another member of staff again ! We were now being ignored! our drinks were all empty, we showed no sign of leaving but no dessert menu was offered. So we made a point of staying until a member of staff came back to the table which they never did. Instead this rude blonde lady was standing behind the bar staring at us giving us a dirty look. After 10-20 minutes we finally have to get up ourself and make our way to the bar to pay the bill as it’s clear the staff are incompetent. At the bar not one word was said and we we will never return to this god awful restaurant because of a silly little blonde woman who needs to redo her training in communication and customers because she is...

I've been to a lot of pubs in my time. Quiet ones, average ones, rowdy ones. Never have I been told to 'keep the noise down'. First night in Windermere from all the way down south. Was looking forward to a nice meal and a laugh at the local. We ordered our drinks whilst sat on separate tables, waiting for one large table for our dinner.

After being seated at our dining table, we waited for our orders to be taken. Instead, we were greeted by who I believe to be the manager of the establishment. He told us that he'd had some complaints about our noise levels, and that he could hear us from the other side of the pub so we should keep it down. This was pretty odd, seen as we'd been there for over an hour at this point.

Anyway, I can honestly say I've never been more insulted whilst out with my friends. We were not that loud at all. None of us swore, we were just sat having a laugh. Fair enough if it's a fine dining restaurant but let's be real it's a pub. There were plenty of others making enough noise. Maybe it was one particular regular who got uppity, maybe it's because we're southern, I don't know. Whatever the case, they lost our custom for that evening. This is simply not how you treat your customers. Such a shame because I heard great things about the food.

I imagine a certain clientele would enjoy their time here, but if you're a bunch of lads looking for a nice, laid back evening, walk straight on past. You're...

Fantastic food, but shame about the service.

We came to Windermere for a holiday in the lakes and on Sunday we decided to go out for dinner at The Pig as it was our last night. We were seated by a miserable looking blonde waitress who brought over the food menus, before promptly leaving. We had to go and get the drinks menu ourselves. Again, when we were ordering, we were met with a quiet, bored stare from the waitress. Nobody checked back on us while we were eating and when we had finished our food we were sat for a long time without anyone collecting the plates, despite the place not being busy at all. Eventually a waiter came and cleared the plates... and didn't return. Nobody brought us the dessert menu or asked if we wanted anything else. If we had been given the menu and attended to, we probably would have ordered dessert and more drinks because we saw some yummy options earlier when looking at the mains. However, nobody came over so we decided to leave and got dessert from the Sainsbury's Local across the road instead.

Overall, the food was delicious and beautifully presented, but it's a huge shame that the front of house staff represent the place in such a disappointing manner. We didn't feel welcome and ended up having a nicer time at our apartment with our...
