Walk in Sunday lunch, opted for the roast beef. Sat in an empty restaurant (which should of been the 1st hint) meals arrived, beef was very fatty, stringy, and not enjoyable so we opted to gift the meat in a doggy bag to an arriving customer with a lovely dog. (I'm sure he will enjoy more)
On a positive, the Veg, Yorkshire pudding and potatoes were absolutely fine but it fell down upon mentioning our concerns with the beef. We were told we were wrong not once but twice by the lady serving us (potentially manager or owner) so it was not a case of customer feedback being valued but more of them going defensive stating that it wasn't cheap meat or fatty (which is was) in our opinion.
But nevermind, we shall simply disagree and we won't return here and hopefully they can improve.
AMMENDED TO 1 STAR DUE TO THE WONDERFUL AND STILL DEFENSIVE RESPONSE FROM THE OWNER. SO MANY POOR REVIEWS IF YOU ENJOY A READ. SEEMINGLY THE OWNER MAY BE THE PROBLEM.
AN EMPTY RESTAURANT TELLS ITS OWN STORY. 😁😁😁
Additionally in response to your added extra.
We did mention it to the server, who didn't quite know what to say. We did mention it was fatty and almost unedible. But perhaps she forgets this.
Ate it all! You filled 2 take away polystyrene boxes with the beef alone so we could give it to a dog belonging to another customer.
I ordered in the bar, aside from the 2 chaps swearing at the football and the a few scattered customers it was hardly busy.
All of this arguing when a simple solution existed, we didn't ask for a refund, we didn't ask for another meal. We simply wanted to feedback our thoughts and you jumped upon it so intensely it was quite surprising.
The simple thing would have been to recognise the issue as customer feedback and simply say sorry and thanks. Your server did offer to recook the meat further but we hadn't the time. Like I said, no refund was asked for by ourselves, it was honest feedback.
Sorry you feel the way you do. But from our perspective it was poor. Perhaps we caught you on a bad day, we...
Read moreCleanliness - 2 (stains on walls and carpet, shower mouldy, fan disgusting, bed sheets were clean) Service - 2 (understaffed) Comfort/amenities - 2 (shower weak, bed very uncomfortable) Environment - 2 (street light, busy restaurants down the road audible if window open, very worn decoration and furnishings) Value - 2 (if room was up to date, this would be higher)
Stayed in room 2.
Doesn't look like the carpet has been cleaned in a while.
Room smelled damp.
Splashes and stains all over walls and skirting.
Wallpaper doesn't meet skirting by about an inch.
Paint peeling off every surface it has been applied to.
Blind doesn't reach bottom of window.
Street light right outside window that doesn't turn off all night.
Light out on ceiling.
Windows were cracked (saw this in another review from over a year ago!).
Wires hanging down all around the TV.
TV isn't HD and doesn't turn on by the remote (it's 2018!).
Shower was mouldy and incredibly weak (economy head on an electric shower is a bad mix!).
Bed was made up of two old and lumpy mattresses pushed together, of which one was clearly much older than the other... Offering very little support on one side, causing us both to end up on one side of the bed when turning over.
Glass bin collection at 5:30AM on Monday, very loud smashing sound of glass because the closed windows blocked little sound.
WiFi passwords seem to be a secret.
Owners didn't appear to be in, which probably didn't help with the lack of staff enthusiasm. However, the breakfast guy was as attentive as he could be to the guests in the lounge.
As others have mentioned, there's only one person on breakfast running between the kitchen and the lounge (who turned up late).
£80+ a night.
Stayed: June 2018,...
Read moreI have been hesitant to write this review as the elleray used to be a firm favourite of ours on family outings to Windermere. After visiting yesterday with our two children, the place was unusually dead. Usually its rather busy. Upon approaching the bar my partners mask snapped so he was fixing it. We was rudely approached by a women with dark hair behind the bar, no hello greeting, just told 'did you see the big sign outside, go out and read it and come back in again'. We said sorry we havnt seen the sign and my partner explained his mask had just broken and was fixing it. She wasn't understanding at all. We felt like children being sent out a class room. Upon walking out she repeated 'out, out, out' pointing to the door. myself and my partner looked at each other and said we think we will take our custom else where and wanted to speak to the manager. 'Tom' the manager wasn't much more helpful and when I asked for the ladies name he said he doesn't need to tell me. We are wanting to write a formal complaint to the owner however without knowing the women's name how can we?. Both manager and staff were very incompetent at there job unfortunately. I am a grown women with children and don't expect to be spoken to like a child infront of my own!! I can only imagine the reason it was completely dead is because of the attitude from staff. No wonder they used to have a 'Facebook like metre' as that's the only way they will be getting any!! Absolutely shameful. Such a beautiful part of the country with such ugly staff. Shameful guys. You have lost some...
