We tend to struggle going anywhere for Sunday Lunch because Mrs K does such a fantastic one I always leave disappointed! However that certainly was not the case here! We dined in the bar area because we had our very well behaved Dog with us (we did check this when we booked) The bar area was beautiful anyway & we felt like we were in a high end restaurant & not a bar area. Our Folks both had the Sunday lunch with Ballotine of Lamb & I enjoyed the Roast Chicken. Mrs K is a veggie so she had the veggie option which was Nut roast topped with Goats cheese which she said was very moist as sometimes nut roasts are dry. We then had Roast Potatoes, Mash Potatoes, Carrot & Swede Mash, honey roast parsnips, seasonal greens, Yorkshire pudding & plenty of gravy. Mrs K doesn't like Veggie Gravy so she asked if it would be possible to have cheese sauce instead & was delighted when they said she could. We were too full but our folks still found room in their sweet stomachs for Sticky Toffee Pudding with local ice cream & Gin Cheesecake. All of our food was locally sourced ingredients & absolutely gorgeous The food was beautiful & we are still speaking about it weeks later. We all said it was such a great meal & experience We were also extremely well looked after by the Team who were all lovely. My Wife also noticed the high levels of hygiene & observed the Lady that was looking after us washed & cleaned her hands every time prior to bringing us drinks or food I have to say this was one of the best meals we have enjoyed in the Lake District & definitely the best Sunday Lunch we have ever had. We will be going back when we are back in the area & would highly recommend this to anyone Well done Guys

Visited this place as I pretty much wanted to try it everytime I walked past it. Went in an hour after finishing Scafell Pike and was just originally going to have a drink but thought I'd try the food also. I ordered the burger and I can honestly say that it's the best burger I've had so far and I've eaten lot of them aha. Seasoned perfectly, perfect thickness to the patty and very juicy, bun was perfect and wasn't soggy. Fries that came with it were plentiful and normally I don't eat coleslaw but I can say it was amazing. They ask if you would like sauce for the fries but don't be afraid to ask. You have to wait to be seated once you enter by a member of staff. Service was 10/10 for me as it was quick, they check to make sure everything is alright, very friendly with customers, I'm very happy with that which is always a bonus to dining in so if you have any problems, they will do their best to help you enjoy your dining experience.

My Father, Son and I had dinner here last night. The greeting from the Front of House staff was warm and welcoming. The overall presentation of the dining rooms were nice with the usual white table cloth and silverware presentation. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. To start, we shared a warm selection of Artisan bread with Lakeland butter, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. My Father ordered the Catch of the Day which was Sea Bream Fillets and served with sides of his choose (which happened to be chunky chips and mushy peas). My son had Pasta with Tomato sauce and Artisan bread from the Children's menu. I had the Lamb which was tender, served with mash potato and mashed swede and carrots. The mint sauce and the gravy tasted lovely too. I enjoyed a lovely Black Raspberry Cosmopolitan cocktail too. Overall had a lovely time dining here and would recommend a visit.

Considering this was meant to be one of the best places to eat the service was appalling and the food was very mediocre. Really very disappointing! There was nobody available to greet us. The bell available to ring didn't seem to bring anyone to our attention. We were stood there over 5 minutes before I was able to get anyone's attention. Bearing in mind we had to book in advance and then also confirm our attendance earlier in the day you'd have thought they might have been expecting us? Then we were told our table wasn't ready and asked to sit outside. We thought someone would get us drinks or to look at the menu but we were just left there. By the time we got to sit at our table we were 25 minutes after our reservation time. We were then sat right next to a door out to the terrace and we had to ask for them to close it as it was right next to my 83 year old Mum and really quite cold. We weren't asked if we wanted any vegetables so didn't get any with our main meals. My Mum and I ordered lamb rump that came with rosemary mash and mashed swede. The patoatoe was really solid, the swede had big chunks in it that were not mashed. The gravy was really very salty. Desserts were fine. We requested the bill and waited ages. Then we were presented with the bill that had £27.00 worth of items on it that were not even ours! It took the staff ages to come to us to pay where the errors were pointed out. Then it took them ages again to bring it back and forever again to take payment. When we left not one member of staff said goodnight. They couldn't care a less. So the whole evening from start to finish was them not caring at all about us. Never again and I will never ever recommend this place to anyone. I will also ask the hotel we are staying at to think again about recommending it. This was meant to be an extra special meal and...

Spent last night at the Lamplighter. |Starting with a very warm welcome, we were two hours early for booking in time! but the receptionist went to check on our room she came back and booked us in,|The room was massive with a gigantic bed, had a great nights sleep to say our room faced the main road. very clean, coffee machine and tea/coffee making facilities |bath room was very large, with shower over bath the shower was good to use ample towels , there was a room where you could hang your cloths up and store your luggage|The bar|a large selection of spirits and beer/ larger but lacking in snacks crisps nuts etc decently priced,|Restaurant|well laid out, reasonably priced, staff were very knowledgeable about the food and explained all the dishes we asked about. the food its self i couldn't fault it all the food was hot and ample i have to give it 10/10 we had three courses and everything was perfect, |Breakfast |i have nothing against dogs but we were sat at a table, the waiter was very efficient. he asked what we would like my wife asked for tea i asked for orange juice of which i got three glasses, not being a big Cumberland sausage fan i asked if pork sausage were an alternative and available, was informed no sorry, i accepted this, our breakfast came not only looked delicious again 10/10 the only thing that spoilt it for me a couple were sat in the same area as us, with two massive golden Labradors sorry if i offend anyone dogs apart from guide dogs shouldn't be allowed in restaurants ( my opinion which i am entitled to) |would we stay here again...
