I had the most pleasant stay at this classic bed-and-breakfast in the heart of Kirkby Stephen -- in fact, it was probably the best spot I stayed overall on my 16-day Coast to Coast Walk, due to the outstanding hospitality of hosts Nick and Rachel, and the quality of the food. I arrived soaking wet after walking in the rain all day, and Nick met me with a warm greeting at the door. Rachel asked if I might like hot tea and cake, which was such a welcome treat after being so damp and tired. She brought it to my room—a delicious homemade Victoria sponge. That was an indicator of how good breakfast would also be, which included homemade sourdough bread they bake fresh each morning -- the best bread I had during my month in the UK. I ordered a packed lunch for the trail, and Rachel's homemade ginger-oat flapjack was so tasty that I asked her for the recipe. I can't wait to try it. Rachel and Nick were so friendly and kind (not to mention SO hard-working!), I felt like I was staying with generous and accommodating friends. As I set out into the drizzle (again) the next morning, I felt refreshed...
Read moreOur stay at Old Croft House was, without a doubt, the highlight of our coast-to-coast adventure. It was by far the best accommodation we experienced along the entire walk — we’re already planning our return!||From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and generosity. Rachel and Nick are exceptional hosts — friendly, engaging, and clearly passionate about making every guest feel at home. Our room was both elegant and cozy, with a supremely comfortable bed and a gorgeous large bath that was pure bliss for tired legs.||And then there’s the breakfast — absolutely delicious, freshly prepared, and served with care. It was the perfect start to our day.||We truly can’t recommend Old Croft House highly enough. A five-star experience...
Read moreWe love this place. This was our first stop when we did half of the C to C last year ( Kirkby Stephen to Robin Hood’s Bay). When we returned to England to finish the walk (St. Bees to Kirkby Stephen), we were fortunate to be able to spend 2 nights at the end of our walk. The Old Croft house is centrally located. The room was beautifully decorated and had everything that we could need. Breakfast was delicious and came with some options that we didn’t find in other inns. The best part about our experience there was owners, Nick and Rachel (and their dog Dillon). We arrived soaked having walked all day in the rain. Nick took all of our wet gear to a drying room and Rachel brought a hot pot of tea and homemade cake to our room. They were both very helpful and personable throughout our stay. We’d love to stay there again if we ever return to...
