Quick summary. Poor food, unwelcoming rude staff, inadequate seating and theft.
After being out for a long ride this was the last test stop of the day. The usual cafe we use was closed so we frequented the Mulberry Bush.
Upon walking in and noticing several people eating outside (all tables were not distanced properly (COVID) and was apprehensive as the food looked no better than a roadside greasy spoon but charging high prices.
I order three cups of tea and two fruit scones that I clearly pointed too. We had to take away as the seating was poor. After an excessive wait we received our order and walked down the road to eat. I found the tea to be the weakest milk flavoured water Iāve ever had and weād been given the wrong order (cheese scones that wasnāt even on display)
So I tried the scones which were hard over salted and frankly inedible so we threw them away in a local bin. Still wanting a fruit scone I went back into the cafe to get one and informed them the order was wrong but no bother and Iād like a fruit scone to take home. I was immediately barked at nastily āYOUāll HAVE TO PAY FOR ANOTHERā. Taken back by this I simply replied āI never said I wouldnātā. She then stormed off into the back angrily shouting Iāll have to see if we have any left.
I paid for the scone she took my money put it in the till closed the till and started to do whatever for a few minutes. I noticed she had give me no change and when corrected looked horrified Iād asked for my 50p back opened the till and threw it on the counter. At this point Iād had enough and asked for a refund, again she didnāt give me the right money and again looked horrified that I should ask for my money back.
I can honestly say Iāve never had the poor food or service from a cafe especially at...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been coming to this cafe for years and today was the first time I was appalled by some of the staff's attitudes. There was a young girl who served us who was brilliant but the older staff could learn a lot from her. On arrival my daughter had a Costa Coffee with her that she brought in from the car, she's Autistic and only drinks certain things. The lady asked how many of us were to be seated and then said you're not coming in with that! In a horrible way. To not cause fuss, I took the drink back to the car. I asked on my return what the problem was with my daughter having the drink when we were obviously going to buy and eat in the cafe. She rolled her eyes and said we don't advertise for Costa in here. I let this drop and went on to have a fabulous meal. Whilst eating our lunch a disabled lady came into the cafe and had her dog with her. She needed the toilet and was on her own. Now I understand that the dog shouldn't have been in the cafe, but, instead of explaining nicely to the lady that dogs weren't allowed they just humiliated her. She did say she was going to eat but after their attitude she decided to go somewhere else. What is the matter with people. Basic manners and courtesy should be automatic in hospitality. I'm a nurse consultant and have been hit, spat at, sworn at etc etc I can honestly say that I have never spoken back to them in a the same manner I was spoken to today in your cafe. I won't be coming back and I will be sharing this to all family and friends. I'm so sad because today I was sharing the experience of my wonderful past memories with my grandchildren and hoped they would continue to go in years to come. I hate that you've spoilt...
Read moreWe called in this afternoon for the first, and only, time. Hubby had sausage, egg & chips - at £8.80 for 2 tiny sausages(not particularly nice), 2 eggs and a few frozen chips was pretty pricey and however much it was spread out on a very large plate it was nowhere near good value for money. My BLT was bordering on the ridiculous - a very small amount of way overcooked bacon, 1 slice of tomato and barely any lettuce was served on the worst bread you could imagine - doorstep thick, mostly crust and dry as a bone - given the price against the poor value for money, again it wasn't worth it. Would we recommend this cafe - it's a definite no from us I'm afraid......
6 months later... As we were in the area today we decided to give this cafe the benefit of our doubt after our first disastrous visit, in the vain hope it might have improved - we wish we hadn't bothered - it was terrible. We both had toasties which had virtually no cheese in them - the bread left a lot the imagination too...who gives customers a sandwich made with one thick and one thin slice of bread for heavens sake!! These people really need to put customer satisfaction over profit and get their act together. And don't get me started on the flies everywhere - both times we've been in there has been a big fly problem - an issue that needs to be addressed immediately.... We do not recommend this cafe and will never ever...
