This small, friendly café is located conveniently in the centre of Kirkby Stephen. The place offers only four or five tables because that is what the owners are comfortable serving, but it does mean you may be disappointed at busy times. But it does mean that you are not crowded in with loads of other people and there us plenty of space to sit and relax. The café provides wall space for local artists and photographers to sell their work, which gives customers something to look at during their visit. The menu offers a good range of food and there is likely to be something to satisfy most dietary requirements. Breakfasts are available until 11.30 and seem really good value, but we were too late for this so opted for light lunches instead. Drinks are reasonably priced too, and there is a wide range of speciality coffees to choose from, should you be so inclined. The food is well cooked, good value, and prompt. We can highly recommend the deserts, too, at just £3.50 (apple crumble with custard is ideal for the winter months!) and cakes from £2.00 per slice seem great value too. The owners are friendly, discreet, and helpful, keeping out of the way to allow customers to relax. A great little place, and one we hope to be able to return to, if there's space when we next drop...
Read moreWe were staying near Settle in N Yorkshire. We drove to the station and caught the train to Kirkby Stephen which is about 1.5 miles from the town, but an easy downhill walk. We stopped for a short visit to Stainmore railway museum then continued into the town. By this time we were in need of refreshment. We chose The Pink Geranium over Costa opposite as we prefer to support local businesses and because it looked the most wecoming. We ordered a cafetiere of decaffeinated coffee, which had good flavour. We also asked about a taxi to take us back to the railway station. The owner offered to phone for us, which we accepted, but none was available, both firms being on jobs too far way to get us to our train on time. However, the owner very kindly offered to take us and shortly after we finished our drinks, he did just that. Yorkshire people are reniwned for their friendliness, but this was...
Read moreWe stopped here on a journey back from Blackpool and we want to now make it our regular stop off!! The food was excellent.. the server was friendly and chatty. We were told by another regular that it's a family business and it's clear they must have a following as while we were there, more people came in to get a table and were having to go away and come back. We had cake and coffee too because we were having such a nice time there. It was also delicious.
Dogs are welcome and I will say the place is full of dogs, there was one at each table.. so depending if that's a positive or negative for you may depend on if you eat here. We're dog people, so for us it was fine and we may bring our own dogs back sometime. There was also things to look at and read there. It was just a...
