Me and my family used to staying in the Lake District for the last five years in nice hotels with friendly owners. However, this hotel was not our luck as we stayed with unfriendly people. I stayed at the hotel for 6 nights. On the last day, I got clothes for checkout, I thought it was the next day. I was late for checkout, I came running at 2:30 pm when I read the email late. At the same time, the booking office called me to tell me about the delay, I told them that they got clothes for the checkout date and I wanted to stay an extra night, and they told me that was okay. I told the reception about it and I refused, and they called the booking office and she refused, then the booking office told me that I couldn't stay and I had to leave. I went to the room with my husband and kids to put my stuff. We saw all our stuff haphazardly packed inside bags. Food and swimming gear were thrown inside a box. We were surprised but kept quiet, packed the rest of the stuff, put the bags down, gave them the key, and she apologized for the delay and told us that we had to pay a fine of 250 pounds. I politely told her the amount is very large, please reduce it, I was only 3 and a half hours late and unintentionally, the man with her shouted at us and said he would call the police. The woman as well. All my children started crying for fear of the police and the horror of the situation. Then my husband intervened and said there is no need for all this in front of the children, we are talking to you politely. He asked the woman for the second time, can we stay the night? She said no, the whole hotel is occupied and there are no rooms. My husband immediately paid the fine for the sake of our children. The receptionists made us feel like we had committed a big mistake against them and not a delay. Then I went to the booking app and saw that rooms were available, unfortunately, but they didn't want us to stay, they just wanted us to pay a very large fine, more than the cost of the night. We couldn't understand that. We were exposed to a situation that let us down a lot and they treated us harshly and coldly, unfortunately, since we are a family with children. That night we suffered a lot. By the way, this isn't the only incident they've had. On the second day of my stay, the man was at the reception and I politely asked him about cleaning the room. He started yelling at me. My husband intervened, probably because he didn't understand what I meant, and he yelled back. Then he said, "If you need anything, talk to the management." He left and slammed the door shut. We were surprised by his reaction, and from that day on, I avoided talking to him. Two days later, I noticed the room wasn't cleaned and the trash was piling up. We removed it and bought new bags. On the fourth day, I found the woman upstairs and told her about cleaning the room. She treated us with respect and came and removed the trash and replaced the bags. Unfortunately, the bad experience I had with my family ruined the beauty of the place for me, as the hotel is beautiful and its location is great.. But I will never forget that I was treated harshly and rudely and was fined an extremely exaggerated amount.. After that, I reviewed the emails I received at the beginning of my reservation.. And among them was that according to the hotel policy, early or late check-in is allowed, but for a small...
Read moreMy mum and I was on the hunt for somewhere to stay for the night, as we had not visited the Lake District in what seemed like forever! After much Googling and searching, we came across Windermere Park. We had a look at the reviews and the pictures, and decided to give it a shot seeing as they had some twin rooms with two beds available for the night. It was really easy to book through Booking.com, and the price included breakfast as well, which was a bonus (as some places were either not doing breakfast or were charging extra for it!) So we set off from Derby after 7 and ended up arriving in Windermere a little before 11 o'clock. Rather than paying to park, we stopped off at the hotel and asked if we could park in the car-park until it was time to check in later. The lady was very welcoming and more than happy for us to park the car there, which was really nice. I had mentioned that we might still be out and about at 3pm, which was the check-in time, but the lady told us not to worry and that she would be there until 6pm, so if we were later that we could just give her a call and she'd leave our key in one of the key-boxes (code provided). It saved us feeling rushed and we were able to have a bit more of a look around. We had got back a bit earlier than anticipated, and was greeted by the lady on reception with a warm and friendly smile, who was very helpful with any questions or queries we had. The room (number 3) was lovely and very cosy. The bathroom was really spacious, the beds were comfortable and the room was very clean.
Breakfast was at 8am, so we were up bright and early and greeted with a warm and friendly welcome into the dining room. There was a selection of cereals and muesli available, with fresh orange and apple juice. With my mum being gluten free, they were able to do gluten-free toast and had gluten-free sausages available as well, which was great. We were asked whether we wanted white, brown or mixed toast and were asked what we'd like for our main breakfast. We went for the full English and they were wonderful! I had asked if I could have scrambled egg and the bacon well-done, which was no trouble at all. It was presented wonderfully on the plate and was very hot (definitely set us up for the day!) Once we had finished breakfast, we headed back to our room to finish off getting the rest of our things ready, before setting off for Keswick. Both my mum and myself were really impressed with everything at Windermere Park: the service, the rooms and breakfast. We will certainly be coming again, and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a lovely place to stay, close to the town. Many...

Upstairs and passed the poorly patched but not colour matched walls and over the threadbare carpet on steps…..to room.|We were in room 12, disappointing ‘view’, for a start, window is high…..however, the sloping ceiling is dangerous, the small ‘double’ bed is placed in such a way that if you are taller than 5’2” you will crack your head,|The shower area is very grubby and broken mismatched tiles although to be fair and searching for a plus, the towels are plentiful and good quality. |First morning, bang on door…..a scruffy man and young woman stood there. He told me the smoke alarm was activated……it hadn’t. He asked if I’d used the shower as the steam had set it off. He didn’t tell me who he was, he wasn’t pleasant. He just turned round and left! I was more surprised that the lukewarm shower (despite warning that water gets hot……although warm out of cold tap) could cause steam.|Cobwebs from ceiling too.|So after shower, I looked for hair drier. There was a holder by mirror but following a thorough search, no hair drier. |Down to breakfast…….same man and girl were in and out with breakfasts so I realised they were staff. |Nice touch, gave my dog a small bowl with bacon bits.|Day two, I asked a woman who looked like she was staff about hair drier…….her response, “they are all in a box at reception because they kept being taken”. Then the man glared at me, shrugged and said, “it’s a B &B you have to ask” . Now, forgive my ignorance and lack of telepathy but there was no mention of where I could locate a hairdryer either on reception ( although I know Chris xxxx was in room 5) and nothing in the guest book in the room! Also, I have clear.y failed to study B & B protocols for hairdryers. Which is weird because in my room there was an iron, ironing board, fan, kettle, TV and bedroom furniture…….but no hairdryer. Woman said, perhaps we need a notice or to put something in guest book. He just walked off, such an unpleasant and rude man. He is clearly in wrong job!|Left the key on reception, wiped feet on way...
