I had an overwhelmingly negative experience in this hotel, but I'd like to start with the positives.

The location of this is hotel is perfect, on the waterside and 5 minute walk from Albert Dock, city centre or Baltic triangle venues. The reception and bar in the hotel is lovely. The bedding in the hotel was clean.

The bed was uncomfortable. It dipped in the middle and had a lot of springs which would poke you. I'm not too picky with mattresses, but this one was particularly bad.

The state of the hotel (aside from lobby and bar) was one of general disrepair. Expect fallen ceiling tiles, holes in the wall, cracked and damaged woodwork and a general scruffy look. The carpets were in reasonable condition though. There was a smell of smoke and stale in the corridors. Access to the buildings was not controlled by keycards at any time we used it, opening automatically for anyone at 2am. Didn't feel particularly secure.

Our room was unclean. There was orangey yellow scale and grime on the shower tiles with mildew in the grout. (Though the shower curtain was clean). The bathroom was particularly bad, with grimy tiles and vents and a particularly old and dirty looking filament heater. Worth noting we had a disabled room, and the emergency pull cord was missing in the bathroom.

The bedroom was generally tidy, had a hanging space with shelves and a mirror. A desk with a TV and mirror. A good electric radiator. Kettle with typhoo and non-brand instant coffee. A hair dryer and the bed. Again there were holes in the wall (some filled but not painted), there were cobwebs and dust. Cracks and severely damaged door frame.

The biggest problem at all was noisy staff in the hall at 9am. I don't expect silence, I sleep though a lot, but banging doors and carts, shouting between one another was enough to wake me up and keep me awake. When check out is 12 I'd really hope for some peace and quiet until at least 11. The walls in this hotel are very thin.

When I booked prices were higher. I see now the prices are much lower. Really I thought it was worth around 30 pounds per night, that seems a fair price when the room quality was similar to a hostel.

I will not be returning, and if there are other options I'd recommend that you choose...

£3 per bag charge to leave bags at hotel before check-in time because booking was not directly with the hotel, I don’t believe this is a fair justification, you’re still getting money for the room and any other additional items I.e. breakfast.

The rooms are basic, white wall and beds that can be wheeled around the room so you can sleep wherever you want. The bedding was stained, the friendly receptionist advised they would check it and replace if needed. When I got back to the hotel later, they confirmed that they had indeed changed the bedding and apologised however, I had to make a second trip round to reception because the fresh bedding had dried blood stains on it.

Another staff member (or possibly evening manager) came to the room with me to check the bedding and offered to either change the bedding again or move me to a spare family room which was appreciated, I took up the upgraded room as I was exhausted.

I was moved to a larger basic room upstairs with a dock view. The staff member was in the room and advised that she had checked the bedding and is confident the bedding is clean, after she left I removed the bed throw and there was dried blood stains. I’m not sure why it’s difficult to have clean bedding, even for a 2-star hotel.

The next evening, I went for a bath which seemed to be slowly reducing so I figured there was a leak which became evident when I went to step out and I found all the water on the floor and slowly being soaked up by the thin, brown, dated, wafer thin carpet in the living area.

I feel I should have been paid to sleep here therefore, I will not be returning to this hotel...

gave 1 star due to the courteous staff otherwise would have been 0. After reading the great reviews and looking at the website I was expecting a basic nice hotel. This wasn't the case, the access to the hotel was not secure and anyone could walk in. The restaurant was not open during our stay. The corridors resembled something out The Shining. Decor throughout was woodchip and dark wood in desperate need of a refurb. Entered our room which was tiny, TV didn't work, beds were old and rickety mattress was not comfortable and there were stains on them. The bathroom was covered in mould and the lampshades looked like they hadn't been dusted for months. I decided I couldn't sleep in there so asked to change rooms. The reception staff were helpful and gave as a free upgrade to a superior room on the top floor. No lift by the way so if you have mobility issues this hotel is not for you. Entered the new room. It was exactly the same as the other one but was clean and had a view of the docks. No air con and the room was very hot and stuffy. The coat hangers fell off if you put 1 item of clothing on no plug sockets near the bed and the wall heater was hanging off the wall. The beds still uncomfortable but not as bad. And the linen was very rustly therefore me and my son didn't sleep for 2 nights. Very very disappointed, over £100 for 2 nights yeah its cheap but still a lot of money would have been better of in a hostel. This is the worst place I have ever statyed in and I have stayed in some very cheap and 1 star places....

Arrived at the hotel around 8ish. The room I was given was dirty. The sheets were old and bobbly and to make things worse there were pubic hairs in the bed. The bathroom also was not clean, again hairs on the toilet. The room also had only one plug socket. The receptionist was very helpful and switched rooms with no issues. The new room was cleaner, but had a broken n light fitting with cobwebs. The whole hotel is very dated, and tired and in need of a refurbishment . Despite staying mid week for work, the hotel is extremely noisy, constantly has people smoke right outside the entrance, you can hear people’s conversations in the rooms next to you. Not ideal when you’re up early for work! The only positive I can say about this hotel is the staff, they are helpful friendly and polite! If you’re in need of a budget hotel the Dolby in the same car park (although dated is at least clean!)
