My son and I visited Comic Con this weekend, and honestly, it was one of the best experiences I’ve had in a long time.

While the event itself was incredible, I’ll focus this review on the Exhibition Centre as a location.

As someone with a disability, my specific needs are crucial when visiting any venue, but I’ll cover those details later.

Let me start by sharing some important facts about the Exhibition Centre that you should consider if you’re thinking of attending an event there.

👍 Firstly, it is a huge venue with more than one building. It’s spacious and airy, and despite its large capacity, crowd management is excellent.

👍 The Centre is easily accessible by car or on foot, with plenty of drop-off points around the site.

👍 Its proximity to Liverpool city centre was really helpful for finding suitable accommodation and traveling there.

👍 The event was brilliantly organized; everything was easy to find, well signposted, and extremely well thought out.

👍 Despite the size of the venue and the many moving parts of the event, everything was orderly, the crowds well managed, and there was plenty of space for everyone.

👍 While security was tight, making us feel safe, it never felt intrusive or excessive.

👍 There were no hiccups, delays, or issues with ticketing. This Centre is truly a well-oiled machine.

👍 An abundance of friendly staff were available to assist with any queries, and nothing ever felt like too much trouble.

👍 The Centre is clean, modern, and well-maintained, with plenty of facilities scattered throughout the site.

👍 There is ample access to outside space, with its location right next to the docks being a bonus. This was particularly important for us when we needed to escape the busyness of the event.

👍 The various buildings have multiple levels, equipped with escalators, lifts, and stairs.

👍 There is a wide array of food and beverages available from multiple outlets at reasonable prices.

♿ For anyone with any kind of disability, I would highly recommend attending an event here.

♿ This is possibly one of the most accessible large events I’ve attended since becoming disabled.

♿ Disabled parking on-site is excellent.

♿ Large corridors, smooth flooring, wide doorways, excellent floor plans with ample space between stalls, and the sheer size of the buildings themselves all contribute to an extremely accessible experience.

♿ Numerous accessible toilet facilities are available.

♿ Knowledgeable and thoughtful staff foster a strong culture of accessibility awareness.

♿ Quiet rooms, safe spaces, and priority accessibility across the board helped me feel very secure at this event.

♿ I must mention how easy it was to apply for accessibility priority because I have an ACCESS card. This is a quick and trusted way for event organizers to make “reasonable adjustments.”

Unfortunately, many event organizers still fall short in this area.

♿ I cannot emphasize enough how well Comic Con in Liverpool handled accessibility. I was treated with the utmost respect, and all of my needs were met—if not exceeded.

✨✨✨✨✨ I can't write this review without mentioning an incredibly unique experience that we had with one of the celebrities.

My son, who is 14, is a massive movie fan and had paid for an autograph with one of the attending actresses Dina Meyer.

For anyone who's ever attended one of these events, you understand that their time is limited. There are huge lines of fans.

On meeting Dina, Dylan was tongue-tied and starstruck.

Dina took the time to chat, gave him a personal, autographed picture, big hugs and had pictures with him.

My first visit to this huge modern events venue, only a short distance from the Royal Albert Dock. It's easy to get to, and there's a large car park close by at King's Dock. I was here with a coach party for the Beyond Van Gogh Experience. There was a bag search at the door before we showed our tickets. The three exhibition halls are side by side on the ground floor, and are very easy to find. It's a very clean, light and airy space with a café in the entrance, accessible toilets next to each hall, seating, and great views of the Mersey through the floor to ceiling windows. Friendly and helpful staff. Beyond Van Gogh was a fantastic, immersive experience, in which Van Gogh's paintings were used to create constantly changing scenes and swirling patterns and colours on the walls and floor, accompanied by haunting music and the artist's own quotes. I found it not only a visual feast, but also a deeply emotional experience, and I learned a lot about Van Gogh's life and work.There was seating, but we were also free to wander around the hall and take photos. When the show was over, we exited through a room filled with artificial sunflowers. There was a shop where we could buy themed gifts and souvenirs. I enjoyed my visit immensely, and would happily return here to attend more events...

Access to the Exhibition Centre is very straightforward, with lots of parking, and easy access. There are plenty of food options nearby, and is roughly a 10-15 minute walk from City Centre.

I went for the British Gymnastics Championships 2023. It was spacious, with adequate seating. The layout allowed you to see all apparatus events evenly.

There was a couple of stores that were slightly overpriced, including a food and drinks section where there was a balance of hot food and snacks, again overpriced.

There was a lot of entertainment and opportunity to get your signatures from the gymnasts who were friendly and interactive, especially with the children.

The atmosphere was fantastic. The amount of kids who love gymnastics, and no all of their names, it was really good to see. I thoroughly enjoyed it, the ongoing commentary was slightly confusing, so be sure to download the BG Score App for future events, even if that is slightly delayed.

Fantastic day out, especially you have children interested in gymnastics, I’d highly recommend it.
