Sound quality was good but wheelchair access was poor. First off the entry to the building involves the staff unlocking great big gates and then locking them after you. The accessible area is left of the stage, not elevated, so the view is restricted and there's only space for maybe 3 wheelchair users at most and no friends, companions and carers unless they stand behind. Because that's what you do at a concert with friends, line up single file. Also the barrier bars wheelchair users into the area. There was a toilet in the area but with so many of us jammed up together it felt more effort than it was worth, asking for people to move to manoeuvre over to it to bother using it. When asking about access, the staff made it sound like you would be helped if you wanted drinks at the bar like other venues do. When it got too hot and we needed water the staff member nearby just said to make our own way through the crowd to the back area... Let's think about why a wheelchair user might not want to do that! The gig was great, the sound was okay for the proximity but I won't be seeing anyone here again. Also on our way out the only place to wait for a taxi was outside the venue, in the rain. Other people could come and go in and out to stay dry whilst they waited, we had to ask for the big gates to be opened to let us back in as the taxi said it would be half an hour... And then they locked the gates again! Then we had to ask to be let out when the taxi was near and not when they arrived incase the taxi drove off. So no coming and going like everyone else and less chance of staying dry like everyone else. Just really no hospitality with this gig venue if you're a...
Read moreWe attended the United King Dolls here and although the gig was good, the venue was totally unequipped to handle a gig of the capacity whilst we were in a heatwave.
We all had to be evacuated 10 mins in to the gig, the venue was clearly over capacity and the heat in there was unbearable! We were informed that the venue had exceeded the legal temperature allowed so we would have to leave to ‘air the venue out’ - we assumed that the gig would be called off (in my opinion this would have been the correct decision).
Upon re entering, it was clear that a few people had left and decided not to return, however the temperature quickly returned to an unbearable level, leaving us feeling really uncomfortable! This would have been ok if you could get to the bar to get a drink of water, however we stood waiting for over half an hour!
Lots of changes need to be made to ensure that the venue feels safer for attendees should we have another heatwave, invest in some air con!!
Another thing that let them down was that the toilets were tiny (not in itself a problem) however they had a toilet attendant in the gents. With the size of the toilets it was too small to have someone in there, he was basically stood shoulder to shoulder with me whilst I used the urinal and his wares that he was trying to sell were all around the only sink available meaning that it wasn’t possible to...
Read moreThe Lancashire Hotpots, supported by Andy Mac. The gig was great, but the venue is under the spotlight for this review. Firstly, the location can only be described as 'tucked away'. If you were not looking for it, you'd never know it was there. Inside, the gig space is on two levels. Lower level for those younger folk wirh functioning knees - no seating, just an open space for dancing, then an upper level with what you can only describe as 'with limited seating '. So our party of 3 was quickly split up, with me on the top deck and the gjrls in the lower dance floor area. Therefore, I can only comment on the upper space. On the plus side, the view down to the lower space and the stage was good. Lighting for the band was also good. After this, things took a turn towards the negative. Sound quality up there was OK at best, and the loos are a bit ramshackle. Finally, back to downstairs and the bar. This was OK, but no cask (unsurprisingly) and drinks provided in plastic cups (no doubt this is due to the lack of anywhere to put them downstairs, and again hardly surprising). My lager shandy was fine, and the diet Pepsi also OK. The selection did not encourage one to get drunk, but some folk need no such encouragement. Even so, the crowd was lively and well mannered throughout, though that's probably safe to say about all fans of The...
