Castro’s Barbershop — Local services in London

I don’t normally write reviews but I was quite surprised by my negative experience at Castro’s, so want to let others know who are considering this barber shop. Whilst the guys at Castro’s are friendly and welcoming, this was unfortunately one of the worst hair cuts I’ve had in London.

I arrived on time for my appointment but had to wait more than 30 minutes whilst the barber casually chatted after finishing his previous job (this isn’t a big deal but worth mentioning). I then felt that my hair cut was rushed to make up the time - the line at the back was very uneven (shaved much further in on one side than the other), which we were unable to fix. There was no effort made to shave the sides evenly, just very quick motions, leaving random short patchy (almost bald) areas on one side, rather than a fade. I articulated several times that I didn’t want much cutting from the top, but ended up with short hair that I can no longer style. I also had to request for my hair to be washed, which definitely needed washing, as this was going to be left out to save time. The appointment was hurriedly wrapped up, and I was told that I didn’t need to pay.

One of the stranger barber experiences of my life.

I told the barber (I think it was the owner) what I wanted and showed him a photo. In short, I wanted it messy and curly.

The barber said he had an idea about what would suit my face shape and style. I said sure, as long as it’s messy and curly.

During the course of my appointment he told me about how he liked Brit pop and the Stone Roses.

This detail is relevant as by the end of my haircut he’d given me the exact haircut of Stone Roses front man Ian Brown. It was not curly at all, and it was not my personality in the slightest. A mod haircut is a serious fashion statement which I didn’t want to make. I had weird tufts on the sides of my head, it was all weirdly straight, and I had no trimming around my neck or ears. It looked at the same time both weirdly neat and carelessly messy.

Looking at it when I got home I realised I hated it. I had my girlfriend tidy it up and now I like it a lot better.

I’d recommend this barber’s if you want to look like Ian Brown but I wouldn’t recommend it if you want literally any...

I've been here about 5 times now and always see Alex who is fantastic. I went in just now to get the same gig, short shaved on the sides and back. Alex wasn't there so I saw Leo for the first time. I'm really sad to say that this was one of the worst haircuts I have ever had. We ended up having to shave all my hair off leaving only a 1 1/2 on the top because he shaved way too high up leaving my head looking like a mohawk. We had to go shorter and shorter to just make it look normal again leaving me upset because even after the wash he had to correct it again as he shaved a part on the top shorter than a 1 1/2. I just got home and checked it in a brighter light and actually had to shave long hairs left behind the ears and on the left side of my temple. This was much too rushed, especially considering he did it in less than 8 minutes. I am really disappointed and will only return if I'm seeing Alex.
