The room was very clean and most of the staff very friendly and helpful. We booked a double room with no windows for 3 nights, and the room was very clean, equipped with two fans making the stay comfortable. Located perfectly in the Centre just a 5 min walk to both primrose hill and Camden centrum, and chalk farm subway station. No cleaning, hairdryer or bathroom carpet though.
Would have rated higher for the money we paid for it, however one evening in the bar, I paid almost 5£ for a 33cl beer, and when I grabbed the bottle and turned, I accidentally hit the high chair and dropped the bottle that spilled half the beer on the floor. The barman kindly cleaned it up (also, to add here, there were no other customers, it was very quiet and I was being perfectly respectable just there for some quiet reading) I explained what happened and how sorry I was, and explained I didn't see high chair just behind my elbow, and I asked if he would serve me a new beer. Then he started charging me for the new beer, and I was very surprised by this and therefore asked him "are you really going to charge me for that". He got a bit annoyed and when I said that I was just surprised, considering it was clearly an accident and that I didn't even get to my table, he told me otherwise it would be taken from his salary. I was chocked by this and the took the half empty bottle and then left to sit in the bar next door instead.
I don't know if the guy made this up, in which case that would have been horrible service, but honestly he was friendly enough before and as someone who worked in service all my life I'm assuming what he said was true, which case I feel that's horrible service on the company's part. It's absolutely fair to have to pay for something you break, however if a costumer spill their drink by accident before even getting to the table, and you charge 5£ for a small beer, I find it outrageous to not replace the drink free of charge. That's basic customer service, and spilled drinks are costs that bars or restaurants counts with accidentally go to waste every now and then. At the end of the day, I would have spend more than enough to make up for it and then some, but instead I left to spend the money elsewhere which is a shame. You should really consider changing your policies, as this little incident has left a very sour taste in our mouths...
Read moreMe and my sister stayed at this hotel for one night when we went to a gig at the roundhouse, chosen purely for location which was excellent. That's where the plus side of staying at this poor excuse for a hotel ends. Pure drudgery. Dreary decor. Felt like we had found ourselves on the set of American horror story season 5 😂 The staff were exceptionally rude, cutting my sister off mid sentence more than once. Not a single smile to be seen from any of them either. Initial impression wasnt too horrendous if you can put up with the staff and decor. However we ended up walking back into a furnace after having spent hours dripping in sweat in the roundhouse and looking forward to a nice cool hotel room having left the window open when we left, literally slapped in the face with pure heat when we opened the hotel room door, we discovered upon investigation and finding the radiator was still warm that it had been on while we were out, in the height of summer! I went to turn the dial attached to ensure it didn't come back on as we slept only to have it literally fall off into my hands. Cold showers ensued (in a dirty bathroom) and we went to bed counting down to the moment we could joyfully skip out of the place never to return. To add insult to injury the following morning whilst my sister was sat in her underwear doing her makeup and I'm sat in bed a member of staff opened our door and walked into our room, paused upon seeing my poor sister sat half naked and left without even offering an apology! Other points, iron but no ironing board, broken elevator so had to use the stairs, pitiful excuse of a tea tray, no biscuits and tea and coffee were horribly cheap, loo roll wasn't a new roll, half used from previous guest, beds far too hard, old dirty stained carpet, missing parts from light fixtures, dust everywhere, dirty bathroom and being told to leave our luggage in an unsecured smelly room when we went to drop it off so we could have lunch before check in unencumbered. After having read other reviews I can only say I think we were actually one of the lucky few who didn't end up in the basement in a windowless room if that were the case we may have demanded a refund and left immediately. Worst hotel I have ever...
Read moreBritannia hotels are cheap and nasty as we've found out in all the ones weve stayed in up and down the country. This one was no exception, the key card never worked and had to be reset every single night when we returned from work (we worked there 15 days consecutively) Every night there would be a customer at reception arguining because what they had booked online wasn't what they received when they turned up. Once young couple even got turned away at 10pm with a young baby in a pram because they had no rooms available, despite the couple using booking.com and booking their room and getting a confirmation method! They are completely backwards with taking payments too. The company we work for pays for our room but when they book online it doesn't charge their card. When we turn up, we are told the room needs paying for so ring up our company. However, the hotel refuses to take card payments over the phone so we had to mess about getting them to transfer money into our account so we could pay on our card. This happened in all the Britannias up and down the country we stop in. Absolutely ridiculous when other places such as Travelodge, Premier, Ibis and Novotel have let our employers pay over the phone no problem. All on all, Britannia is a frustrating place to stay, with run down rooms. The shower was either too hot or too cold so you'd end up just running a bath! Even the cleaners only do half a job and just pull the bed, dont replace sheets and leave litter lying around. I would never stay in another Britannia if I had my way (although understandably, employers look for the cheapest digs for their subcontractors) so in summary, if you want a relaxing stay away, go...
