🚇 Euston 🍺 £6.80 Heineken ❤️ A Euston Road Stalwart. . Halfway between Euston and Kings Cross/St Pancras stations sits The Rocket pub. The nearest Tube is a split decision, either station is a few minutes walk away. . This Grade II listed pub was built in 1856 and rebuilt in its present form in 1899. The pub started life as The Rising Sun, it was renamed as The Friar & Firkin in 1992 and has been The Rocket since around 1999. . This large pub was refurbished in spring this year to give it a new lease of life. There is a modern contemporary fresh feel here, much has changed since my last visit six years ago. One of the best features of this pub are the beautiful arched windows that flood the main bar with light. Some other original features remain like the back bar which is a thing of beauty. Around the bar are nods to the railways, there are pop art style prints and gauges adorning the walls. . The beer line up was a selection of mainstream keg, a few craft brews plus three cask options. I chose a pint of Heineken, my pint was decent and price point was aimed at passing trade not locals. The food menu is extensive, there are British Classics, lots of comfort food options and mix & match Tapas. We thought we would try out the Tapas 5 for £21 deal, the portions were hearty, the food tasted great and reasonably priced too. . We visited early on a June evening around 7pm. The pub was fairly busy with passing punters plus a few in to watch the Norway v Scotland game. The service was good , we didn’t have to wait long to be served at the bar and to receive our food at the table. The pub shows live premiere league and champions league football and hosts DJ nights throughout the month. . It was good to see this grand pub reinvigorated and get a fresh makeover. This is a good spot for pre-train home drinks, a bit of grub and watching the footy. @therocketpub is well worth a look if you’re in the area. . ℹ️ Info correct on...
Read moreWould not recommend whatsoever to someone with allergies. After working with Natasha to figure out what menu item would be best for me, I was told multiple times that the chef refused to make my chips (which contained none of my allergens) due to the fact that the fryer could cross contaminate. I was very aware of this, having worked in a restaurant before and very frequently done so before, and said that I would be fine eating the chips. After being told by Natasha multiple times that the chef was refusing, I decided to order online to try and avoid this problem. I ordered chips because I knew I would be alright, but when my food came out there were none. Thankfully Natasha managed to get my chips delivered, and I ate them all without any problems, but I am still very upset at this entire ordeal as it took over 15 minutes to even order my food, and when it came out I was extremely disappointed. I know my own allergies way better than any chef could, and I assured the staff that I would be fine with cross contamination in a fryer. To think that any chef would try and override my own decisions and acceptance of the allergy risk (when there was none!) is ridiculous to me, and I am very upset that this entire ordeal happened. Had I not finally received my chips I surely would have asked for my money back, as it was what I ordered and to think that the chef knew that I had paid money and still not given me what I ordered is unacceptable. I was not in any way trying to be high maintenance, but to think that the menu was so accepting and suggestive of allergy-friendly options, and had a chef that wouldn’t even adhere to that, is ridiculous. Natasha, who was very helpful, even admitted that I was being treated unfairly, and I completely agree. Unacceptable, and the...
Read moreI would prefer to give this zero to minus stars! After arriving in to an expectedly very busy pub for a big match day last Sunday, things were going well. Bar staff were serving as fast as possible, even while taps were running low. However after about 2 hours and with less than 1 hour to go for the big game on the TV - The bar manager turned off all TV's - stopped serving drinks and started to tell people (the place was packed to the rafters) that everyone had to leave, and come back in again!!!!!!! So they could re-stock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What complete rubbish!!! They were completely unprepared for this day and were running out of all taps and stock, I have no doubt if we all left, we would not have gotten back in again, the manager would have locked the doors!!!! Those of us who stayed, which was still a lot, refused to leave, there was ZERO trouble, the football crowd were singing and cheering and nothing but pleasant to the staff! Next thing about 10 cops arrive outside, the bar manager talks to them, we assume to ask us all to leave, which the police DID NOT ASK US TO LEAVE, why would they, there was NO TROUBLE, everyone just wanted/needed somewhere to watch the match!!! They begrudgingly turned on the game, and served us the last drops of drink they had left on the premises! If there was anywhere else to go within an hour of the match, we would all have left, it was disgusting behaviour and they do not deserve any ratings for this. You are a sports bar, knowing there is a big game and thousands of fans descending, I have no idea how you could be so ill prepared and how you could treat your customers, who had spent hours and hundreds of pounds in there before the game with such disrespect! I will be most definately sharing my views on this place and it won't...
