Bad signal
I went to this place with a friend for a catch up and a meal on the afternoon of Saturday 16th September around 12.45. The Signal Box was fairly empty which was appealing because we were both hungry and expected a quick bite to eat before my friend made a connecting train journey afterwards. We were seated quickly and chose our food. This is where things went downhill. A smiling server came over and took our food order. Our drinks arrived, we chatted and the tables around us filled up but it never got too busy. After 45 mins or so I noticed some people near to us having been seated and eaten were now departing.. we were by now very hungry.. I went over to the cash desk and asked another staff member where our food was. She looked in the direction of the kitchen and said in a blank tone “it’s just coming”. I go back to our table and we carry on talking but all we can think about is “where is our food?’ Another 15 or so minutes go by and still no sign.. we spot the first lady who took our food order and tell her we still waiting.. she looks horrified and rushes to the kitchen.. when she comes back she says there was a system fault that meant the kitchen didn’t get the orders.. (It got the drinks bit though and other diners were getting their food … 🧐) To appease us she lets us both have a free drink on the house.. but by now the whole experience is ruined.. my friend’s time has also been cut fine regarding his connecting train.. Eventually the food comes - mine is lukewarm and comes a whole 10 or so mins before my friend’s.. As other reviewers have mentioned the prices are not exactly cheap here so as for an overall first time experience - I can only say if you want to go somewhere and be left completely alone and forgotten about… the Signal Box Euston...
Read moreI enjoyed the menu choice and the food was delicious. However, I was surprised at how poor the service was. Some of the waiting staff members did not seem to care about service quality. One waitress spilled some soup (on a tray) and gave quite a nonchalant apology. When I asked another waitress what a particular menu item was like, the response was 'I don't know, I don't eat vegetables like this.' My table partner waited for a dessert for a very long time. After several reminders, a waitress informed us that her colleague had just given our dessert to another customer in error (our dessert did arrive shortly after). My table partner used the toilet facilities and they were functioning fine. Less than five min. later I tried to use them too, but two of the waiters who were stood at the toilets door informed me that all restaurant toilets are out of order and I should use the train station toilets on the lower floor instead. It seemed unlikely that all the toilets had gone out of order within less than 5 minutes (there was no sign on the door or visible issues). It appeared to me that the staff members wanted to avoid additional cleaning work. I also witnessed some problems at a neighbouring table. The wrong food item was served. The customer complained and the dish was eventually replaced. However, when replacing the item the waitress also took away another plate which had not been finished with (as voiced by the customer some...
Read moreFirst time visiting here.
Whenever we're waiting at Euston, we don't usually think of popping upstairs. There's actually quite a lot of choice.
So you find an empty table, staff will then come over to take your order.
We ordered the following:
Pint of Guinness £7.05 Pepsi Max £3.30 Pint of soda water and lime cordial £1.25
Tomato soup with bread £6.50 Buffalo wings in BBQ sauce £8.95 Crispy squid £9.95
Chicken Kiev with bacon bits and mash £16.50 Soft shell crab burger with green mayo and fries £18.50
Choc brownie with salted caramel ice cream Scoop of chocolate and vanilla ice-cream
Came to Approx £95 including service charge.
It was ok, food was mediocre, the squid looked like pieces were missing. When mentioned to staff, her response was, that is how many you usually get. The squid was dry, over fried and generally hard, certainly not worth almost £10. The wings were tastier, the chicken kiev was hard, over fried and dry. We enjoyed the brownie.
Service was better than the food.
Seating was good, almost coach style seating.
There are lifts to access the first floor and accessible toilets.
Will visit again, makes a change from a...
