We booked the Z Hotel City Center based on location, price, and the fact that it advertises sound proof rooms. The location, for our purposes, was absolutely phenomenal (and anywhere else you need to go, the "tap on-tap off" subway and bus transit was fantastic).
The hotel itself is fine—breakfast options seemed a bit limited, and there aren't a lot amenities, but it's a budget hotel. The room itself is also fine—the bed was reasonably comfortable, and the shower was a decent size despite the overall small footprint of the room (though water did manage to leak around the doorframe a bit, so try not to keep bags near the doors).
Our room could have been cleaned a bit better, as we noticed dust and debris in some of the corners of the room. And perhaps drawn out by the moisture in the air after the shower, we did notice at least one small silverfish running along the baseboards our second night there, which wasn't thrilling. There were also issues with the television reception, which one of the late-night attendants did his best to fix, but it seems the problem is with old/loose cables that likely need to be updated. We spoke with the evening desk clerk about these issues, and he was extremely apologetic, offered to cover breakfast the next morning for us which was quite generous, and made notes that he intended to relay to the morning management team the next day. I'll add, though, that the next morning the desk staff made no mention of anything, provided no follow up, and frankly seemed about as bored to be there as they could be, barely making the effort to maintain eye contact. The young ladies who checked us in and the gentleman working nights were much more pleasant to interact with.
The one major thing I'll flag is the sound proofing. It's a blatant misrepresentation. Sound muffling, perhaps, but not sound proofing. After our first night's attempted sleep dealing with some pretty bad jet lag, we were woken up by what seemed like every bus and trash truck that drove by from 7am to 9am. We could hear doors opening and closing in the hallways, either from housekeeping or other guests. Motorcycles and scooters shot by and each one was heard. It was probably the worst night's sleep of our entire holiday. If you're especially sensitive to noise, try requesting a room away from the street—ours looked out over the front entrance of the hotel, and if we were going to be there for more than two nights we absolutely would have asked to move. Extremely disappointing given how they highlight sound proofing as one of the selling points of...

Read moreRoom was exactly like the online pics on the website, identical really.
Size: This hotel is part of the growing trend of micro rooms at budget prices. I stayed in a Queen room, and let me tell you I could just about walk around the bed and put my luggage on the floor. I dread to think the size of the smaller ones. Definately for single people only, NO FAMILIES,there isn't space. Also the separation between the loo and shower is a half frosted glass wall (with half frosted door) so bear in mind your privacy. It doesn't lock either.
Cleanliness and upkeep: everywhere in the hotel was spotless and freshly cleaned with the scent of cleaning fluid everywhere. The hotel appeared to be newly decorated in a boutique style. Carpets to halls all clean and new. Bedrooms had clean wooden floors and were exactly as advertised. Amazing blackout blinds
Temperature : Following other reviews about claustrophobia and unbearable heat in the lower floors, I stayed on the 4th floor. Other reviews going back a couple years at least warned that the air con all over the hotel was bad. I experienced good air con downstairs in reception but bad upstairs throughout my room and the halls. However they lent me a large tower fan which kept things bearable. Windows didn't open certainly on the 4th floor and the lower rooms in the basement which added to the claustrophobia and heat.
Work/business travel: not a good place to do work on the desk in your room because it is very tiny maybe 1sq ft. Also only 2 plug sockets in a queen room.
Leisure :The only place to sit casually in your room is on the bed so can't hang out here, only in the bar. There isn't a lounge in reception either. If you wait for a cab you gotta wait in your room or outside.
Extras: hotel has a pleasant trendy bar open long hours with nice breakfast well worth the money, free apples in the hall. They offer late checkout to 3pm for £25 extra.
Staff : really great. Manager John was really helpful and quick via email. Staff especially Eduardo were amazingly...
