I'd heard really amazing things about this sandwich bar and my partner has happily dropped in several times. When we went by today, I ordered one of the vegan sandwiches (which may be a new addition to the menu) and sadly my experience was quite different from others.
I was asked to choose white or brown bread, which I thought nothing of until I realised the maker was not using one of the freshly baked rolls on offer. Instead, I was given two slices of Hovis Wholegrain (or something eerily similar). I was then asked if I wanted butter, which I took to mean there was no vegan spread available. I walked away £4 lighter with two dry slices of bread, a couple of sundried tomatoes, half an avocado and a handful of spinach. I could have bought the same ingredients from Sainsbury's and used my Hovis and Flora at home for less.
Extremely disappointed and only wish I'd had the confidence to change my mind. Would not recommend for vegans until they can be fully and properly...
Read moreWhy are there long lines at Dileto? Could be because it’s on Fleet Street, right in the heart of London. I think the real answer is their sandwiches. They’re incredible. I beat the line yesterday by getting there a few minutes after 10:00 in the morning. Lots to chose from on the menu. The staff suggested two sandwiches, both melts, the four and the nine. I chose the nine. A short wait and it was ready. I found a park and gave the sandwich a try. Unbelievable. Roast chicken, bacon, cheddar, gherkin, lettuce, tomato, mayo on a roll and in proportions that made each ingredient complement each other. The price is reasonable too because it was a big sandwich. Next time you’re on Fleet Street mid-morning stop at Dileto. You’ll beat the line and get one of the best sandwiches...
Read morePassed by on a Wednesday lunchtime. The queue was long, always a good sign! Whilst waiting in the queue I looked up the reviews, which were great and also the menu. There is a LOT of choice here. Be prepared to be bamboozled! I asked some others in the queue for their advice. "it's all good, there are no bad options!" - advice that is both reassuring but unhelpful!! Opted for the chicken & bacon (number 8 I think??). My goodness this was good. Hot, flavoursome on beautiful soft focaccia bread. Lovely friendly service whilst inside too. Be prepared to queue when you get here. But it's soooo worth the wait! I'll definitely be back, I need to try those other...
