Since I did work nearby and had heard quite a few good things about this pub, I decided to check it out, first with one friend, and then again with a few more. I can say without hesitation that it’s a beautiful pub with great staff who seem kind and patient.
On both occasions I visited, the vibe was just right, not too quiet, not too busy. It felt like the perfect balance: enough people to create a good atmosphere, but not so many that the staff were overwhelmed. You can easily have a conversation, whether you’re in the beer garden or inside.
I’ve only been on the main floor and in the beer garden, so I’m not sure what’s upstairs. But the main floor, which houses the bar, is stunning. The interior design is honestly to die for. The bar itself looks really fancy, and the pints taste clean, which tells me they probably clean their lines regularly, unlike some other pubs I’ve been to. The price of a pint is fairly standard for central London, around £7–8. It’s not cheap, but hey, it’s London.
Now, the beer garden is amazing, mostly because there’s an old double-decker bus out there that you can actually sit inside and enjoy your drink. It’s air-conditioned too, so no worries about it getting stuffy. The only downside is the chairs, some of them creak a lot, and a couple lean awkwardly when you sit on them. Definitely something that needs fixing. But other than that, the space is great: plenty of room to sit or stand, and it’s a perfect spot if you want to catch some sun.
As for the food, I didn’t try any, so I can’t rate it. But from what I saw, it looked pretty good. I didn’t get a proper look at the menu or prices, though.
Overall, it’s a beautiful pub worth checking out. The interior is stunning, the beer garden is a great chill spot (major points for the London bus you can sit in), and the staff are lovely. Plus, the pints taste great. If you’re ever near Temple or by the River Thames, it’s only a 5–10 minute walk, definitely...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting the Old Bank of England pub in London and was absolutely blown away by the unique and memorable experience. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the pub's unique decor - it's housed inside an old bank, and the atmosphere is charming and inviting. The double decker bus in the back is a fun and unexpected feature - you can sit inside and enjoy a drink while taking in the lively atmosphere of the pub.
One of the things that really stood out to me was the pub's large selection of beers. Whether you're a fan of classic lagers, hoppy IPAs, or something in between, there's something for everyone on the menu. The staff were also incredibly friendly and helpful, taking the time to chat with me and make recommendations based on my preferences.
But the real highlight of my visit was the lively atmosphere of the pub. It was bustling and energetic, with a mix of locals and tourists enjoying a pint and soaking up the unique atmosphere of the Old Bank of England.
I was also impressed by the pub's convenient location in London. It's just a short walk from many of the city's top attractions, making it the perfect spot for a quick drink or a longer evening out. And with the pub's rich history dating back to the 17th century, there's no shortage of interesting stories and anecdotes to discover while you're there.
Overall, I had a fantastic experience at the Old Bank of England pub and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and memorable dining and drinking experience in London. The decor is charming and unexpected, the selection of beers is impressive, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the lively atmosphere is sure to put you in a good mood. Read moreFollowing my previous review (below) Emily the manager invited me to return. So I booked a table for lunch on Friday 23/06/23. When we arrived we met Emily and she took us through to a dining area. As it wasn't busy we were given a choice of tables to sit at. Emily introduced us to Laura who would be looking after us. We ordered Olives, warm focaccia and roasted cashews to graze on whilst deciding on our mains. My friend ordered the Wagyu Burger served with triple cooked chips and I had the Steak and Ale pie, seasonal greens, gravy, I also had triple cooked chips rather than the mash. Both of our meals were tasty, good old pub grub, which was washed down with my Picpoul (my favourite wine), and my friend had a pint of Pilsner River Sadly, after our mains we were too full to have dessert. As it was a nice day (the sun was shining) we moved to a table in the courtyard, where there is a vintage routemaster bus. Here we enjoyed a few drinks and later had the baked camambert, which I recommend. As for Laura, she was extremely personable as well as professional. It is clear she is an experienced waitress, she knew the menu so was able to answer questions. I was impressed that she upsold (hence my friend having bacon and cheese added to his burger) she also checked back on us to see how our meal was, which seems to be a rare occurence these days! In fact, she checked back several times throughout our time there. Both Emily and Laura are a credit to the company. We will definitely be returning.
Stunning interior, majority of staff lovely and helpful especially Joe. However, Jamie needs to work on his customer service as he was very rude and quite aggressive when he spoke to us; he has a real...
