Subject: Negative Experience at Rahman- Bed Bugs, Poor Cleanliness, Discriminatory Lift Access, and Unprofessional Practices
I recently stayed at Rahman in Manchester and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. While it is one of the cheapest options in the area, I strongly believe that the conditions and service do not reflect even basic standards for accommodation.
First, I discovered bed bugs in my room, which is a serious health and hygiene concern. The overall cleanliness of the hostel was also far below expectations. Common areas, including the bathrooms, were poorly maintained, which made my stay uncomfortable. I have photos and videos to support these claims.
Another major issue was with the lift: although it exists, it is apparently not accessible to disabled guests. The staff, however, use the lift daily for their own convenience, which I find both discriminatory and unprofessional. This lack of consideration for those with mobility challenges is unacceptable.
Additionally, I noticed what I believe is an unprofessional and unethical practice at the hostel: it seems that some individuals are allowed to stay for free, likely due to their personal relationships with staff members or the owner. This not only creates an unfair environment but also raises concerns about how this might affect the quality of service for paying guests.
One of the more surprising aspects was the lack of a proper kitchen. Guests are limited to making basic sandwiches or using the microwave. This is especially frustrating for those who expect basic kitchen facilities when booking a hostel.
In conclusion, while Rahman may be an affordable option, the conditions and service are subpar, and I would caution anyone considering this hostel. If your budget allows for a slightly higher rate, I would strongly recommend booking elsewhere. This experience has certainly led me to believe that you get what you pay for, and in this case, the trade-off isn’t worth it.
I have photos and videos as evidence of the issues mentioned above and am happy to share them if needed.

Read moreI booked a 2-night stay at Rahman Hostel for the Oasis concerts, thinking it would be a budget-friendly base for some live music and Mancunian charm. What I didn’t realise at the time was that “Rahman” must be a local codeword for “run — seriously, run.”||||After booking, I made the grave mistake of reading the reviews. What I found was a horror anthology: bed bugs, mysterious smells (possibly supernatural in origin), and a steady cast of characters “hanging around” who wouldn’t look out of place in a gritty Netflix crime drama. Wisely, I cancelled my booking before the free cancellation deadline and instead booked with YHA Manchester — clean, friendly, and crucially, not a waking nightmare.||||Rahman Hostel, however, decided my cancelled stay should cost me the full amount anyway. Bold move.||||Since then, I’ve contacted the hostel four times. Not once have I been allowed to speak to a manager — apparently, they exist only in myth. The staff I spoke to could all star in a reboot of Clueless, blissfully unaware of how refunds or responsibility work. Promises to call back? Lies. Follow-up emails? Ghosted harder than a bad Tinder date.||||I've now escalated this with HostelWorld (who, thankfully, do have a functioning grasp of customer service) and raised a chargeback with my credit card company. Because when you cancel a booking within the rules, being charged anyway is not just sketchy — it's fraudulent.||||Bottom line: Avoid Rahman Hostel like you’d avoid sharing a sleeping bag with a possum. Stay literally anywhere else. Sleep on a park bench. Sleep on a train. Sleep standing up in a museum. Whatever you do, do not give this place your money — they’ll take it, ignore you, and then pretend you...
Read moreFilthy, dangerous and illegal. When I showed up, the receptionist demanded a photocopy of my passport and all my personal information. I asked why and he arrogantly waved a message in my face which had apparently been hidden away down at the bottom of the booking page.
By law, info like this has to be securely stored in digital format. The Rahman Piccadilly Hostel seems to think it's ok to just sling it in an open drawer. Totally illegal but whatever, I needed to sleep.
In the dorm, I was immediately challenged by my roommate for the night and accused of stealing his wallet. A tense and uncomfortable decision followed before I could convince him that I hadn't been in the room before so there was no way I could have even seen anything belonging to him.
After he chilled out, roomie tells me that he tried his own bed last night but he likes mine better, so he decided to switch us. 'My' bed is still covered in his dirty sheets and the wall socket is broken so no charging my phone.
Dorm room was kept so hot that we needed the window open, inviting the many and varied sounds of Manchester on a Saturday night. I left as soon as I could.
If you ever find yourself visiting Manny at very short notice, sleep on the streets instead of this place....
