My family stayed at the Hyatt House Anchorage for two nights and it was wonderful. |We chose this hotel because it was one of the only hotels that had a sofa bed. After all, there were three of us and it was cheaper to get a room with a sofa bed as opposed to two standard hotel rooms. ||The room:|The one bedroom room we got could sleep 6, two on the two queen beds and two on the sofa bed. The queen beds were very comfortable but the sofa bed was very uncomfortable (not unexpected) but for a night or two it was fine. That being said, while you could get 6 people in the room it’d be much more comfortable when just using the two queen beds, although the sofa bed in sofa mode is very comfortable one could just sleep on the sofa. |The kitchen is a decent size and has a full-sized fridge, pots and pans, plates and silverware, mugs and glasses, toaster, microwave, stovetop, and dishwasher. |The only this that was odd was the outlets on the laps were loose and didn’t work I’m my room (402), so we had to use the oddly placed wall outlets. ||The Amenities:|The amenities are good for the price. A basic free breakfast, free airport shuttle, mini concession stand, the Hbar (Bar/restaurant.||the shuttle:|The airport shuttle runs 24 hrs a day and is on demand, when you call it’ll likely take 10-20 minutes to get to the airport as it serves 3 other hotels but it is very reliable. |Also as a tip, if you are renting a car for the day, even though renting a car is cheaper than at the airport, rent at the airport as you can take the free shuttle to and from the airport and save on Lyft/uber trips. |Also, note the shuttle doesn’t go to the convention center or anchorage depot for cruise transportation. ||The included breakfast:|Hot: Eggs, hash browns, bacon, pancakes, and Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches. |Breads: white, wheat, bagels. |Cereal: Raisin Bran, Frosted Flakes, Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, rice Krispy, Cinnamon Toast Crunch.|Fruits: pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew, oranges, bananas. |Condiment: butter, peanut butter, jams, honey, pancake syrup, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, cream cheese. |Sweets: donut holes, blueberry, banana, and bran muffins ||The concessions and H bar:|The concession area has a variety of frozen foods and meals, drinks, candy, and chips although they are kinda overpriced. |The H bar has a small menu and it’s decently priced, but the quality’s not the best along with a decent list of drinks. ||For two nights I paid $642 (AAA rate) which seemed like a fair price for what you get. ||Pros:|-Close to the airport|-Good price for what you get|-Free shuttle to the airport|-Full kitchen |-Sofa bed|-Lots of room, would be good for families ||Cons:|-Nothing really within walking distance|-The sofa bed was uncomfortable|-No free shuttle to a cruise transportation hub|-Outlets were in...
Read moreI’ve been a longtime Hyatt brand fan, and to be honest, that’s probably what keeps me going back to Hyatt House ANC, because if I had to give an honest assessment of the past few stays, there’s no way I would go back. I understand the pandemic hit businesses hard, but at a certain point you have to realize- I’m paying good money for sub-par accommodations.
Let’s start with the last trip- in January. We showed up and the room was 53 degrees. It’s hard to relax when it’s that cold. It doesn’t feel “hospitable.” When we mentioned something to the front desk, they said it was the batteries in the Thermostat, changed it, and we waited… 4 hours later it was 61 degrees. The front desk moved us to another room. That required multiple trips to the front desk, checking out, checking back in, moving bags from one floor to another. The second room was colder than the first, so we reversed said process. At least we got some exercise. Then we wanted to lower the blinds, but that particular room had electronic blind controls that didn’t work, probably because the room was too cold for the batteries in all the remotes. I tried to find a manual release for the blinds, and that’s when the entire valance fell on the floor. It was glued to the wall, and the glue hadn’t cured all the way, (probably because the room was too cold?) so now I had construction adhesive on my clothes (still do, it never came off.)
My next stay at the Hyatt House ANC was a few days ago. The room was pretty clean, but it’s clear that they are missing a few things. When I was looking for my shoes, I reached under the bed and grabbed a used face mask (not mine). When I looked closer, there was dust bunnies, used packaging, used ear plugs, and prescription pills lying under the bed. The next morning I woke up with bug bites all over, so, yah, there’s that.
To sum up, I realize that the pandemic has had a negative affect on business, and it’s hard to get good help. But the Hyatt House ANC seems to be suffering from a major management vacuum. The staff at the front desk seem to be there against their will, and the Made-to-Order breakfast, (which is one of the best things about the Hotel,) along with the Fitness Center and the Pool, have all been languishing for over a year. The kitchen in the Suites has been a life saver, but my tolerance for the incompetent staff is beginning to outweigh any benefits that this particular...
Read moreThe breakfast is by far the best continental breakfast I’ve ever had. I’m not even a breakfast person but I am while I stay here. They have fresh eggs and sausage or bacon every morning with either potatoes or French toast. They have breakfast sandwiches and burritos you can heat up if you’re on the go. They also have cereal, pastries, fruit, milk, ample tea and coffee to choose from. The chef takes a lot of pride in his job and keeps everything well stocked and interacts with the guest. In my opinion this really makes the hotel shine brighter than the many we’ve stayed in. The room we’re in has a fold out couch large enough for my two sons. The housekeeping is awesome, our room was immaculate. Honestly I am so impressed! The pool area and gym are also very clean and well put together. I am utterly impressed and shocked the reviews aren’t even better. The tea, coffee and hot chocolate are available 24/7 in the lobby at no extra charge. I highly recommend! We’re staying here for two weeks it’s been four days so far and our stay has been so great already I had to leave a review! I will attach photos soon. I read the reviews before we stayed here because we have three children and I wanted a safe environment and the other reviews do not do this hotel justice. Everything you need to cook and eat is in the room. We are staying on the second floor, there’s coin laundry which is so convenient. My husband and I have traveled a lot being that he is a military member and we have family all over the world and I have to say this hotel is definitely the best we’ve stayed at in the United States. I appreciate they have hot/boiling water available in the lobby at all times which can be very important for international travelers who enjoy tea or warm water to drink. It’s the little things like the entryway compartment, dishwasher and blackout blinds that make this stay...
