This hotel is no more than a place to sleep, and not really worth what you're paying. When we arrived at the Hampton Inn we automatically didn't know where to stand because the tiny lobby was filled with people waiting to check in; when we approached the counter the receptionist was very flustered and told us to wait because they are in the middle of shift change and when the previous shift leaves, then check in can resume-- I was literally flabbergasted into silence because I'm sorry, I didn't know work stopped because of shift change. My brother and I patiently waited for the oncoming shift to start working and check-in the 4 families waiting ahead of us before we were able to get our keys and go to the room. We booked a "Mountain View" room, but I would hardly call the view of the Hampton Inn sign and the Applebee's in the parking lot with the mountains in the back "Mountain View" (it's actually quite comical). My brother is a Hilton Honors member so we've stayed at a decent amount of Hampton Inn's when we've traveled together and our favorite part about our stay is always the breakfast...just not at Hampton Inn Anchorage. The oranges, apples and bananas were oddly all bruised and dull looking not making it appealing to eat. Additionally, the limited daily options of Western omelet, bacon, and potatoes made it difficult for someone who doesn't eat pork to have a good breakfast especially when all that was left was thick oatmeal, cereal, waffles, and bagels/toast (how fulfilling). Lastly, for a hotel brand owned by Hilton that has a market cap of $64.7 billion/annually please stop giving your guests cheap plastic silverware that can't cut through a waffle, let alone a boiled egg. It's cheap and frustrating. The reason I'm giving 3 stars is because of the comfortable beds. Although no one had the decency to remove the ripped bed skirts, or replace our worn out comforters that actually had the fabric coming apart, the beds and pillows were so cozy and comfortable it didn't make the stay THAT terrible. As I initially mentioned, if you're simply looking for a place to sleep, this is your hotel. However if you're looking for the amenities that come with spending $2,000+ for your stay, look elsewhere.

I was initially going to give this hotel a bad review but they can thank their excellent daytime staff for saving them from that. Part of it is my own fault. I brought a black light with me and my wife told me that I'm never allowed to bring a black light with us to a hotel again. I saw a meme that made the joke that hotels will charge you a penalty fee for smoking in their rooms but you can literally get bodily fluid on every surface in your room and it's all good (I'm paraphrasing here because this is a family site). We're not smokers so we aren't looking to change that rule, just commenting on the irony. We got off to a pretty bad start. We had a late flight and though we had asked for extra pillows that I need due to a back and shoulder injury and had been promised that they would put them in our room, they didn't do that so my first night there was very uncomfortable. They told us that they didn't have a single extra pillow available to give us. There were also some pretty crispy spots on the carpet, obvious mold/mildew on the wall and a massive stain on the couch revealed by the aforementioned black light. We were pretty mad the next morning but the morning staff apparently cares about their customers a bit more than the evening staff. The evening staff reminded me of that episode of Seinfeld where Jerry and Elaine try to pick up a rental car Jerry had reserved. The morning staff sent someone in to clean the mold/mildew off the wall, bring us pillows and gave us a big towel to lay down on the couch so we could use it. I don't know if it was a DNA stain or spilled food but either way, we didn't want to sit in it. In any case, I don't know if we'd stay there again since you kind of have to experience the good staff and the night staff but at least the day staff made an effort to salvage the experience. At the prices you have to pay for this hotel, you would expect a much better experience

I stayed here last month as I’m having regular doctor appointments in Anchorage and no complaints..room was fine, front desk lady was great. The only issue was the pool was out of order, not a huge deal. We just drove in 6 hours from Fairbanks and I booked a king room with a sofa a week in advance. Tofi checked us in with no sense of urgency, no smile and hardly any eye contact it was like we were an inconvenience just showing up. She put us into a room with 2 queen beds which had hair on the toilet seat, questionable old crusty white stuff on the chair, what looked like crushed deodorant in the floor, a stain on the bed and the walls had dirty hand marks and water stains. (I wish I had taken pictures). When we went back down to let her know that wasn’t the room we booked she had an attitude and all she said was that they had no king beds left. After pushing that we booked this room in advance and were not notified even upon arriving about the room, there was all of a sudden a king bed but its handicap accessible with no couch and STILL not what we paid for and booked. Not to mention run down furniture as pictured. After getting into our new room for the night I went to double check that the room we ordered is in fact unavailable and it’s showing that it is available to book. We will stay for tonight as we’re only staying one night but we will not be returning back which is sad considering that we’re honor members and planned to stay here during our monthly trips to Anchorage. Now we will find somewhere else to give our money.

The rooms and staff were very nice, but the main reason we rented here was to use the pool and hot tub. The pool was ok, but the hot tub had visible slim/mold caked on every corner. I was disgusted and we didn't go back in the pool area at all after that im pretty bummed me spent over 300 dollars for our stay and didn't get to enjoy the pool area. My son had alot of fun in the jacuzzi in our room. I did notify the staff about the situation and I got fed a bunch or excuses. So I checked online reviews other than mine, and this issue was brought to the attention of the hotel staff 2 weeks ago but is still not been resolved. I will not be staying here for future special events. I am a local and because my birthday is during the cold season we usually rent a room somewhere around town. I understand pool and hot tubs are expensive to maintain but the water shouldn't taste like salt or hurt eyes when you come back up from swimming under water. Lastly when I asked later on about the pool being cleaned the women at the front desk told me "I sent the maintenance guy to wipe that off the walls." Only to wipe it off the walls not to actually clean it. I lived in the lower 48 for years and rented hotels down there. Even the cheapest motel/hotel hot tubs are better kept than this one.

Update: The general manager is no help at all!! I called to get a refund and they said they would give me money back for one day I was ok with that, until I looked at my bank account and noticed the hotel took out another 155 dollars. I called to have it corrected and the manager told me to quit yelling even though I was not. I have a clear speaking voice and was upset, but I didn't yell so of course it made me get upset when he kept being unreasonable. He automatically got an attitude with me and was absolutely no help and was acting very petty and snippy. It's like he was trying to have a pissing contest when I just wanted my money back the hotel wrongfully took from my account.

I feel like this company specifically targeted me because I wrote a bad review and wanted a refund. I will never stay at a Hampton in ever again due to the unprofessional actions of the general manager.

He definitely needs more training on how to handle high stress situations with customers. He kept interrupting me to give me excuses in the middle of my complaint rather than actually trying to solve the situation, and kept telling me to call their 1800 number because he couldn't help me if I didn't want help. Then he had the audacity to laugh at my situation like it was funny that I couldn't buy food for my familt due to his employees mistake. I called multiple times throughout the day to try and have this issue resolved and the manager never called me back or spoke to me himself until they processed the money out of my account. He had his assistant manager do it.

When I first called to let corrin know they took money out rather then putting it back in specifically requested to speak with their accounting department or the manager. She told me she would handle it and it was not handled.

I may sound lie a bro ken record, but I do not want other people to have this issue happen to them either so I am filing a report with corporate.

Corrin was helpful it was the general manager who was no help and just down right rude. I called to be helped not get into a pissing contest with the person who was supposed to...

no follow ups at all even though they pretended so on google review I submitted my experience to your site for your follow up, but never heard back. I also called the number, the hotel said "I had no idea who asked you to contact us regarding the review, hang on, let me see if I can find someone" I hanged on for about 20 minutes, then it was hang up by the other side. Seriously, this is your follow up?

original review

The worst hotel experience we ever have had. We are a party of 8 with 3 kids. Arriving at 11 pm, we were told by the front desk that they only had one room for us because the hotel was overbooked. We booked two rooms. The front desk told us she would send us to Hilton and Hilton will have two rooms for us. I double checked with her if Hilton would have rooms and the answer was yes. This is where the nightmare started. We moved to Hilton around midnight and not a single room was available and there was nothing they could do. We had to come back to Hampton and hoped to settle the kids down in the room which was available. But when we were back, the only room was gone. When we questioned her about sending us to Hilton, she said she assumed they would have room for us. She assumed, did not even bother to check. I checked online, and found out there was no room available in this area from the Hilton chain. How would she make an assumption so easily and make us go back and forth in the middle of the night? We have a 6 year olds who became really grumpy and whiny. The trip started to get ruined at the moment. After talking to the front desk and she talking to her manager eventually at around 2:40am we had our first room. It had a single bed and a sofa bed, rather than the two queen beds booked. The hotel is under extensive renovation. A fire drill woke us up at 6:30am. What else could you encounter? Unlike the other review complaint about 'you will have to be shuttled to another hotel for complimentary breakfast options.', this option is not an option anymore. We stayed two nights there, and for the second one we asked if they have a room with two beds, the front desk(another lady) said no, and announced that their system could have a glitch and they are overbooked. No apologies or empathy. I might be over reading, but the tone sounded like we were the lucky ones who bumped into this glitch and should blame ourselves for the luck. We did not say anything back and left the hotel after two nights' stay. They charged us full price for the two nights, it indeed shows they didn't feel bad about the situation at all and it's ourselves to blame for the terrible experience.

If you dare yourself and/or your family in a similar situation for a trip in Alaska, I would recommend this hotel, otherwise...

I would give a 0 if I could. The staff was incredibly rude. We called to book directly through them and they booked us through a 3rd party without telling us. I called to book for a specific room which was why I wanted to book directly, when we arrived they put us in a cheaper room and told us they would refund the difference of the rooms for that first night, they did not. They told us all day they would be switching the room so we had to wait there and it ruined a whole day of our vacation because we couldn't leave before they switched us so we were there when the room we had booked was finally ready. We asked for new sheets and had to ask 5 times over a 2 day period for the room to be turned down with new sheets. At one point they gave us sheets and told us to do it ourselves. Have us two top sheets for the wrong size bed called again and told them again what size bed and they brought the wrong sheets again. We had to go out and grab the old sheets from the dirty floor in the hallway and put those back on the bed to sleep. We were told water bottles at the front desk were free from one person and then throughout the stay were charged anywhere from $1-$3 so the staff was just pocketing money based on what they felt like charging. People just hang out and bang on doors in the hallway at night (which the manager tried to blame on construction when it was the middle of the night and no construction crews were there) we called the front desk about it and they did nothing. When customer service called the manager about giving us a partial refund for the horrible stay and she blamed everything on construction saying that all guests are notified about construction before the stay (we were not) and the construction had nothing to do with the horrible stay. The manager said she will not give a partial refund because there was construction even though it was reiterated that the construction was not the issue. They refused to try to keep the floors dry from people tracking in snow (also blamed on construction) when it was a collection from everyone but the staff just wanted to sit and hang out in the lobby all day. When speaking to some staff we would just get stared at at times instead of getting an answer. If you can stay somewhere else do it and save yourself from being treated horribly. A motel 6 would give better service.

Photo is of other peoples hair we...
