Upon arrival late on Friday night, the desk hostess was rude and short, but during the encounter she became more friendly (and remained so during each subsequent meeting). Her sarcastic manner took just a few minutes of getting used to, but was not a deal breaker.
The lobby was nice - design, cleanliness, etc.
The room was also nice. It appeared clean and well-kept. After adjusting the thermostat, we settled in for the evening. At roughly 9 AM, the three of us wanted to shower and get ready for the day, but discovered the hot water in the tub/shower would not heat above what I can only describe as “luke warm.”
After my cold shower, I headed to the lobby to wait for the rest of my family so we could enjoy the complimentary breakfast. While waiting, I heard the desk clerk on the phone with someone the entire time I was downstairs. She was discussing her dog’s lack of training, the fact that someone was using someone else as their “meal ticket,” among other things. During her conversation, when a customer would approach the desk, her tone would change from animated and lively to that of an undertaker: monotone, short, and unfriendly. I listened to her cut customers off mid-sentence to ask what room they were in, ramble off excuses to nullify bad experiences, etc. If she was forced to repeat herself due to a language barrier, she only became louder and more apathetic. I decided not to bring up the lack of hot water that morning.
That evening, the same cold shower awaited each of us. After our day out in Anchorage, we were unable to even draw warm water from the faucet. Good thing it was our last night. - Especially because the toilet paper was just about to run out, without a spare roll anywhere to be found.
While checking out, I was greeted by a noticeably friendlier-than-yesterday morning clerk. She asked how our stay was, so I mentioned our lack of hot water. Midway through my statement, she interrupted to tell me the problem was that “the switch was turned off.” Apparently, this is a known problem with a simple workaround, yet the room was still rented. I guess the customer will just deal with it, right?
Overall, we were completely dissatisfied with our stay. If the customer service and water heaters were all operational, we would have zero complaints. But as-is, I am unable to recommend this Crowne Plaza, and I will not stay at another. In fact, I am seriously concerned about staying anywhere within the rest of...
Read moreThe Crowne Plaza in Anchorage is easily one of the top places to stay in Anchorage. Its close to the airport, but not so close that you hear jets taking off and landing all night. A quick free shuttle to and from the airport.
The Hotel is very nice, and clean. It has a great lobby, which is a nice place to hang out, and visit, or just relax. There is free coffee and flavored ice water, as well as other drinks for purchase such as energy drinks, and soda's.
The rooms are very nice, and offer a relaxing stay. There is WiFi, and its good. There are lots of plug ins for any electronic devices, and is very nice for doing any work, or just surfing the internet. The TV is big, and offers a lot of channels for entertainment. Room service is good, and the menu is excellent. My room had a little refrigerator, and a microwave. Plus, a coffee pot and there is tea, and condiments. The bathroom is very nice, and they offer free shampoo and conditioner. The soaps are nice as well. They also offer a little kit on each bed to massage your feet, and to spritz the room with a nice relaxing scent. The beds are very comfortable, lots of pillows, the room has its own climate control, with heat/AC depending on the time of year. Plenty of lighting, lamps, and spaces for working, including a nice desk.
The Restaurant, Juno, is an very good dinning place. The food is excellent, and the prices are comparable for that level of food to Anchorage restaurants in general. The bar, located in the Juno restaurant is also a great place, with TV's for watching news and sports (never too loud). They have a great after hours menu, a large selection of beers, wines, and spirits. The breakfast is a buffet style, and very good. Lots of choice.
There is a business center, with computers, and a printer/copy machine for guests convenience. A work out facility, a pool, and plenty of parking. Its close to a lot of shopping and dining.
All in all, an exceptional place to stay. A little high priced, but worth every penny. The staff is what makes the Crowne Plaza the great place it is. The greetings from the front desk, the shuttle staff, the restaurant/bar staff, housekeeping, everyone you meet will make sure you are happy, and well taken care of. You will not be disappointed if you stay at the Crowne Plaza in...
Read moreWhere do I start with this review. Firstly, believe all the negative things said. Secondly, use this hotel as last port of call - I’m sure surely you can find a better one. Thirdly, avoid the restaurant and some of its staff. |Harsh yes but very true. This hotel cannot be a true Crowne plaza and if so they should be ashamed of it. From the desk greeting to the time we left I think only two staff members, one a young man, were friendly and cleanly presented. The corridor to our cell, I mean bedroom was like an airport landing strip. The old air conditioning units were so loud we could hear from our room, (also leaving a smell of fried chips in its midst!). We changed rooms but no better still noisy. Our sheets were a shiny satiny nylon which supercharged your hair overnight. In between which had a thin white fleece blanket?! Uncovered of course. The bathroom had mould in the corners of the shower plus cracked floor tiles and our sink had a lovely designer crack in it. The towels were very thin and small. We were excited to try the breakfast and of course glad we had included it within our price…. Arriving in the morning we were greeted by a slovenly waitress who clearly had worked through the night as not had time to shower and change… Our drinks were given and after taking some, just freshly changed on the breakfast counter, oatmeal I quickly realised it was cold. I asked for a fresh portion from the kitchen which again was tepid. I asked for a jug of hot milk trying my best not to throw yet another bowl of food away hoping I could revive it. We also asked for 2nd cuppa and she put the cups down so roughly water was spilt from them. Alas the milk was tepid and after hearing a laugh in the kitchen from the waitress, coincidentally around the time my milk was coming out, I was very apprehensive about using it anyway! |As the breakfast counter was poorly stocked with tepid food and poor selection of fruit and yoghurt plus the floor area was grubby we decided to stick to the plastic sealed tubs of cereal. After watching the waitress go round wiping the tables without anti bac spray and using the same cloth no rinsing the levels of hygiene were none existent and consistent with how the whole hotel presented itself. Grubby, tired and...
