The facility looks to be in great shape. The room was nice, clean, stocked with sufficient towels, and bed was comfy. Unfortunately, we didn't have great sleep for the short time we were there; checked in late (around midnight) and left after breakfast. The walls seemed very thin. We could hear people talking from adjacent rooms. In the early AM (around 6AM which we've only been sleeping for about 5 hour at this point because of checking in late), we were woken up by an adjacent room's blaring alarm. Afterwards, we fell back asleep, but was woken up to the rattling noise of the air conditioning/heater unit. The heater was fine all night, but for some reason decided to rattle early in the morning for a few minutes. At this point we couldn't fall back asleep anymore because I-5 noise is starting to pick up. We realized being on the third floor didn't help because of direct sound and there weren't other buildings, trees, or walls to muffle the sounds of I-5 every time a vehicle zooms past the hotel.
Noise from I-5 can be reduced by staying on the first floor if there are rooms left on the first floor, and staying in a room not facing I-5. Building a hotel right next to I-5 is convenient, but you would expect it to be more sound proof, and not just use the least expensive materials out there, or the lack of materials to deafen sound.
The breakfast area was a little on the smaller side and food was average. Many Holiday Inn and Suites usually provide 3 trays of hot items in the morning; only 2 of the 3 hot food trays were being used. One tray had scrambled eggs, and the other had bacon and breakfast turkey patties. The third tray had nothing. From other Holiday Inn and Suite experiences, the third tray usually contained biscuits and gravy. Obviously this Holiday Inn and Suite did use the third for food at some point; it was just disappointing there weren't any biscuits and gravy, and there wasn't a sign saying sorry they were temporarily out of food items for the third tray or something. The hot food items did seem like the standard frozen out of a bag/box; pre-made commercially, reheat, then serve.
I commend this hotel for trying to provide more food options, but the execution is still far from perfect. The almond milk option was great, but it was vanilla flavored and loaded with added sugar. Plain almond milk would have been better. Unfortunately, some food items still contained high fructose corn syrup.
Would I stay at this hotel again? Probably not because of the thin walls and windows, and the value paid (over $120) for a 2-star hotel (about 10 hours total) does not justify for a poor quality of sleep stay.
Pros: Hotels looks great, room is clean.
Cons: Very thin wall and lots of noise from adjacent...
Read moreI am a IHG Premier Member with many stays at IHG properties. My wife and I had a two night stay while visiting family in Talent Oregon. This is a newer Holiday Inn Express but there were a few issues during the stay that I felt the staff dropped the ball. 1. When I checked in I was not told the rooms would not be serviced (I assume because of COVID). I was not offered fresh towels for the second day and was therefore disappointed on the return to the room to find it not made up and no fresh towels. 2. Because of COVID no hot breakfast was being served so they offered some extra options to go along with the grab bag which was nice. However, when my wife went down to pick up two breakfast for both her and for me, the staff made fun of her for asking for "lots of food". She only got two each of milk, cereal, juice and yogurts. Hardly excessive for two adults. The comments were not professional or merited. 3.On our first night someone burned popcorn in their room microwave on our floor which caused a horrible stink on the 3rd floor. I mentioned it to the staff with the hopes that they would do something to try and clear the air and smell, but the desk clerk just brushed it off. The stink was so bad that it saturated our clothes leaving us with the stink as well. I am a loyal IHC customer and this experience was not typical of service I have seen at other Holiday Inn...
Read moreI have stayed at many Holiday Inn Express in my travels for work and luckily this was not my first stay, so I know most are better than this.
The room I was in had several issues to complain about. The air conditioner was very noisy and rattled, not standard white noise which is easy to sleep with. The water pressure in the room was terrible. The sink barely turned on and the shower head wasn’t much better. The shower products were mix and matched with some other brand, not the standard dove products. This room just felt old and dingy.
Went to use the jacuzzi spa while I was there and the water was disgusting. It wad grayish brown. Needless to say did not actually get in.
Breakfast counter was only partially stocked. One of three items was used up and took about 15 minutes to refill. Another was not in use at all leaving only a cheese omelet as a hot meal option. This hotel just seemed to try to meet bare minimums with regards to breakfast.
I’ve stayed in many holiday inns and am very happy with others, however this one just needs a little work. Water pressure, jacuzzi cleanliness, and being the only holiday inn I've ever stayed in to not fully stock their breakfast counter are my biggest complaints.
The bed was comfy and it met my needs for a one night stay but was definitely not up to par with the standard of room I typically see with Holiday...
