I Decided to have my 23rd Birthday dinner at Caldera Brewery & Resaturant on October 1st 2018. I called on the 24th @ 4pm to make a reservation I told them it would be a party of 15 I was told if the party is larger then 14 we would be sat outside so I told them I would call them the next day with a more accurate number of people. I called back on the 25th @ 4:45pm & informed them that it would be a party of 15-20 people & we would be doing seperate checks. The day of the dinner on the 1st I called back @ 4:30 to ask if there was anyway we could be sat inside due to the rain I was informed we would be sat at different tables regardless if it was inside or outside so I wanted to be inside. Everything was just fine food was great the atmosphere was awesome & I even informed the staff that I didn’t end up needing one of the table they set up for me & that they were more then welcome to seat it, I was enjoying my birthday dinner with my guest. When we were going to order a birthday shots & some dessert the server Campbell delivered our tab. When we see our tab was not split one of my guest asked Campbell to split up the tab she was told my guest she couldn’t do that, So my guest asked to speak with a manager. When Stephanie the manager came to the table I asked to speak with her since it was my dinner I put together I figured I would be the one to figure this mess out. When I informed Stephanie that I was the one who made the reservation & I specifically informed them I would be doing separate tickets, stephanie replied with things change over the phone. Well Stephanie that is not my problem as a guest especially if I have already informed you ahead of time that we would be doing seperate tabs Maybe your staff should have better communication when it comes to reservations. I told Stephanie we needed the tab split up & she told me they could not do that. Stephanie you are talking to a table of servers. Out of the 15 guest I had there 8 of us serve for a living so please tell me again you can not split a tab? The manager nor the waitress was helping us to split up the ticket until my guest had to form a line at the pos system & inform the manager of what they had so they could cash out & leave. This took about 30 minutes & in that time the manager Stephanie was telling my guest not to be rude even though nobody was being rude we simply just wanted our tabs & for your staff not to give us any attitude. Stephanie was cashing out one of my guest who had a regular lemon drop martini Stephanie tried to cash my guest out for a special lemon drop when my guest informed her that she didn’t have a special it was just a regular she told her well somebody has to pay for it umm hello Mangment that is not what you tell a guest!
Caldera Restaurant & Brewery please take the time to teach you staff how to properly respond to a situation with hospitality.
As for Stephanie here is a lesson for you when you were called to the table the proper response would have been to simply say “ I’m sorry for the inconvenience my server was under the impression you were all on one tab, This will just take a moment for us to figure out who had what & we will get you all cashed out.” As for your server Campbell the next time she takes a party maybe she will start off with asking if everybody is on one ticket or seperate so she doesn’t have to deal with such a mess.
Sadly Because of this issue she suffered a tremendous loss in tips & my birthday dinner had a...
Read moreSo, the first time I went was shortly after they'd opened. It was terrible service; slow, no servers checking on us, nothing. Didn't go back until today (10 year approximately, later). The service was just as bad. Our waitress was young and we had ordered appetizers and entrees. She didn't once check on our table, but had ALL THE TIME in the world to chat with a table that looked like her friends. We finally got our entrees (never received our appetizers). The entrees were brought by an older gentleman and a prompt blonde waitress. When we told them that we hadn't gotten the appetizer, they said they didn't see the ticket for but would put in the order. When I told the gentleman that the young waitress that initially waited on us hadn't once been by to check on us, since bringing out water and that she has been chatting the entire time with her group of friends; he was a bit curt and said, "well it's fine we're helping you now". Um, no not the correct way to address the issue. Then the original waitress came by and said "hey, how's everything going here?" I told her, well you didn't put in the order properly and she said, "you should have just like hollered my name or flagged me down". I told her we hadn't seen her walk by once because she's just been standing at a table chatting with friends. And she rolled her eyes. We got a new waitress, but the original flaky waitress made sure to give mean looks or roll her eyes at our table every time she passed after that. There's a reason it took 10 years to return to this establishment and I will never return. Terrible service, bland food, and no one help accountable for their lack of service. Definite 0.5 stars but lowest I can give is 1
"People like me"... Caldera, as a business Owner, YOU should learn how to speak with patrons. Yes you comped the tacos but your general service is HORRIFIC! And we DID order 2 ORDERS OF THE TACOS. We wouldn't have placed and order for TWO, if we didn't want them. Your waitress was a flake, and rude to continue walking by and mean mugging/giving flippant and dirty looks to our table once she was taken off our service. I will HAPPILY NEVER RETURN AND WILL HAPPILY DETER ANYONE WHO ASKS ABOUT YOUR RESTAURANT. You are terrible and people should know. Take care...
Read moreNot truly gluten-free!! NOT prepared/cooked separately from other dishes!!
We went here last night because my son’s girlfriend is highly gluten-intolerant and Caldera has several gluten-free dishes that are supposed to not only have gluten-free ingredients but also be prepared/cooked separately from gluten foods, to avoid cross-contamination.
Not so last night. Just 15 minutes after finishing her meal, my son’s girlfriend was doubled over in pain, feeling like thousands of tiny knives were stabbing her belly - which was so hard/distended she couldn’t zip her super-stretch jeans (at all). Her pain worsened and lasted all night, w/ no relief, and she’s still suffering the effects today.
Granted it was a Friday night, but not half as busy as the other 2 Friday nights I tried eating here. There was no waitlist, there were empty tables and booths and only a handful of patrons at the bar. But there is no excuse for causing someone this much pain, especially when claiming to be gluten-free, and certainly not at $21 for a 2-1/2 inch (no exaggeration) piece of salmon.
My son and I, blessed to be gluten-tolerant, each ordered a pizza, he the meat and I the margherita, both of which were horribly soggy and undercooked. His was literally raw in the middle and had to be sent back. My “crust” was completely limp and saturated in tomato juice. Starving, I ate it anyway (w/ a fork) without complaint or comment card, however, when my son’s girlfriend had her gluten reaction soon after leaving, I had to call and speak w/ the manager on duty.
I was clearly upset and clearly explained the situation, but he offered nothing to help make it right. He did apologize and assured me that they do take gluten seriously, but that obviously wasn’t our experience, so please er on the side of caution if you’re gluten-intolerant, especially if they’re busy!! (We, however, won’t be...
