Unfortunately felt compelled to edit my review of the beloved Oak Tree. Nothing wrong with the service, it is usually great as long as you get a good server, which MOST of them are. But the food has gone way downhill, is very inconsistent & prices are far to high for the gamble. I never fudge on a good tip for good service, but in order to do so, one meal can break the bank for someone on even a slight budget. I understand a lot has changed for businesses like this in the past couple of years, but it's not good when locals & regulars become disappointed & can't rely on a great meal at a decent price anymore. This is the only restaurant in town with an old school vibe you simply can't get anywhere else in Ashland. Sadly we decided our recent visit would be our last. Not that I know details behind the curtains, but the business definitely appears to be thriving with recent remodeling, etc. but the owner might want to insist on keeping a closer eye on food quality & consistency if they plan on keeping the menu prices as high as they are. Local competition like Ruby's & Big Al's have extremely tasty food & are ALWAYS consistent at...

Ordered the fried chicken, super crispy and juicy (not easy to achieve) could have used a little more seasoning? The fries were great, especially when throw into the salad. The Chef's salad was a classic "big salad", Elaine Benes would approve. Tons of meat, throw on some French fries and you almost have a Pittsburgh salad. We had to pack most of it for home. Both the blue cheese and ranch were good. Nice service, big portions and...
Read moreGot the chicken fried steak for $17. You would think for $17 they could make a chicken fried steak from scratch. Instead they brought out a frozen chicken fried steak, lumpy mashed potatoes and lumpy gravy that looked and tasted like half dry Elmer's glue. The salad was inedible. I asked for blue cheese dressing and they brought a little cup of ranch out with a pinch of blue cheese in it. The best thing about the salad was the croutons. The waitress was not very friendly at all. She obviously didn't want to be there and the customers were a bother. I started to give this a two-star but I can't justify that because I had flies harassing me the entire time I was trying to eat. I do...
