Avoid at all cost. This was probably one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve ever had in my entire life. We spent close to $2,000 at this hotel with a one week stay, so to say the least, our expectations were high. We paid extra for a “harbor view” and when we walked into our room and opened the shutters, we were surprised to find that there was a chain link fence, a red “keep out/no trespassing” sign and a peekaboo harbor view at best. We immediately went to the front desk to either get a rate reduction or to switch to another room entirely, because we refused to pay extra for a view of a chain link fence. Then we get switched to a room that directly faces the roundabout so we can hear everyone walk by the hotel and everyone drive in with their headlights. (Adding a blackout curtain would be super helpful, since all of the rooms just have wooden shutters). When we were at breakfast, (which by the way any Holiday Inn far surpasses what is offered at this hotel) a woman came up to us and said “excuse me, put your dishes in here” as she pointed to a black dish bin. We looked super confused because we had just started eating. I said what? She then repeated herself curtly and I said okay, we figured as such…Usually when there is a dish bin out, I naturally assume that we have to buss our own table. (She came up to us every morning we were there to remind us to do this). The next day, we realized we were going to need more wash cloths and toilet paper during our stay. (Our room did not come with a spare roll like most hotels). So not thinking this would be a huge ask, I called the front desk and asked for 8 wash cloths and two rolls of toilet paper as we were staying for a week, I knew we would need about that much. The front desk agent was audibly annoyed and asked if I could wait until housekeeping was available and I said of course. Later in the afternoon I noticed I still had not received them so I went to the front desk, where an altercation then ensued. I kindly asked for them a second time and was met with attitude. The front desk lady said that the hotel has limited supplies and could not give me 8 washcloths for our week stay. She handed me 1 roll of toilet paper and 2 wash cloths. She told me that I needed to leave my dirty towels at my door before I could get any more new ones. She said that’s usually “how hotels work”. I told her that I have in fact stayed at copious amounts of hotels both small and large during my travels and never once was asking for more linens or toilet paper an issue, let alone met with such attitude when I was making such a simple request. For how much they charge, maybe they should switch laundry services or order more supplies if they have a hard time handing out a few more washcloths and toilet paper to guests. She was entirely rude and I eventually turned away and removed myself from the conversation because it was clear that I wasn’t going to be met with any kind of courtesy. Then, later that day we came back to the hotel to miraculously find a plastic back with more linens by our door? Super strange when I was told they couldn’t do that for me previously. The bed was uncomfortable and old, the internet was so awful that we had to just use our 5g the whole time we were there. There is not an equal amount of accessible outlets on either side of the bed in order to charge phones, watches etc. Also the parking is $30 per night to park in an uncovered, gravel lot which wasn’t a huge deal but I was expecting covered parking at the very least for that amount. In closing, I think this hotel has potential if they paid attention to the details, gave the rooms a nice facelift and trained their staff appropriately in hospitality and customer service. I also suggest them not charging extra for a harbor view room until the chain link fences are removed so people can actually see the view they are paying for. To say the least, we will NEVER stay here again and would not recommend this...
Read moreWhat a disappointing experience. My mother was scheduled for surgery at Johns Hopkins with an early arrival time so we decided to stay in Baltimore the night before. I at least wanted to stay somewhere with a better atmosphere than your standard hotel and, when I found the Inn at Henderson's Wharf, it looked like a nice, relaxing place.
At check in, the system went down and I had to write my credit card information on a piece of paper for what I thought was the charge for parking ($30 by the way, which is pretty standard for the hotels in Baltimore). I don't know about anyone else, but writing your credit card information down and leaving it with someone is pretty disconcerting.
The lobby area was nice. The breakfast area seemed very small but it's close to the rooms so it would be easy to return to your room with breakfast.
Our room had a nice view of the waterfront. The room itself was cozy but the lighting is very poor, especially in the bathroom. The shower area has very little light and seems like a bit of a safety hazard. The bedding was a disaster. The bed itself was adequate but the sheets were like sandpaper and the pillows were all varying levels of flat, lumpy or hard. For the price that you pay for a room and for billing itself as a "boutique hotel", it was certainly lackluster.
We had to check out around 5:00 the next morning and, when we went to the front desk, there was no one there. There was no bell to ring or button to press to alert staff that someone was at the front desk. We called out multiple times, even walking behind the desk to look into the open office door behind the desk to find someone. Finally, an employee appears from another door and she looked like she had just jumped out of bed; clothes askew, looking totally disoriented. She took my keys and that was it. No offer of a receipt or folio. Nothing. I didn't have time to think about it since we had to get to the hospital but it was very odd.
Two days later, I check my credit card statement and see a charge for $55.90. I knew parking was $30 but couldn't figure out where the extra $25.90 was coming from. I called and spoke to someone who finally sent me the folio for the visit. $6.00 for parking "tax" and $19.90 for a "hotel services fee". This is supposed to include (according to their website) Welcome Drink, In Room Coffee, Bottled Water, Premium Internet Access, Deluxe Continental Breakfast, Welcome Amenity, Managers Social Mon-Thurs. from 5pm-6pm, Turn Down Service, Robes and Slippers. None of these things were outlined at check in. We were not offered a "welcome drink", the bottled water in the room had a label on it that said it was $5, breakfast doesn't start until 7:00 so we would not be taking advantage of that, we were not offered "turn down service" or robes and slippers at check in, and who knows what a "welcome amenity" is. I booked this stay through Priceline and this charge was never disclosed. In fact, the booking through Priceline said "continental breakfast included at no charge."
It's just bad business and bad form all around. For the price of the room with the added fee for parking and "hotel services", I would have gotten a much better value at...
Read moreStayed here on August 6th for a weekend overnight getaway with my fiancee. The location was very convenient to Fells Point, though we appreciated it being set off just a little bit from the heart of restaurants, pubs, etc. The "all-inclusive" parking was also very convenient, and worth the extra small fee. The staff was friendly and courteous, and gave us some excellent dining suggestions. Both the lobby and room decor were very nice, as well as our view of the gardens through the plantation shutters in our room. The bed, pillow, and linens were all extremely comfortable, and our end of the hotel was very quiet. For a "luxury" hotel, I was disappointed in the bathroom. While it was very clean, it was also very non-impressive with standard tub/shower set-up; I was hoping for something a little nicer. The complimentary wine hour included a generous selection of wine, cheeses, and crackers. We did not make the Gran Marnier/chocolate event, or the continental breakfast, but enjoyed access to the Starbucks coffee machine, and the refreshing, ice-cold lemon water available 24 hours. In getting ready for dinner, I realized that I had forgotten a razor and toothbrush. Although the front desk said they could give me such items, I was annoyed that they wouldn't bring it to my room. They made me go to the lobby and get it, and I wasn't exactly dressed to leave my room. It worked out, since when I went to the lobby to pick up my toiletries, I stumbled upon the wine happy hour! I would have given it 5 stars, if the bathroom were more luxurious; I expected something a little nicer given the rate. Overall, however, it is a beautiful historic hotel, in the perfect location for exploring Fells Point and Inner Harbor, with a friendly staff and convenient parking. We would most definitely stay...
