One of the worst hotel stays I've experienced. I was stuck in the exit of the parking garage (apparently shared with an apartment complex/property) for over half an hour. The parking ticket given to me by the front desk at checkin wasn't accepted and gate wouldn't lift. The cars (filled with angry apartment dwellers) behind me piled up as I pushed the button for assistance only to be told by the person at the other end of the speaker that since I was a hotel guest I needed to call the front desk (because the button was only for residents). At this point several cars behind me were honking and yelling at me and I could barely hear the front desk staff telling me over the phone that I needed to push the button and speak to the property management group. When I explained that I already had done so and asked the front desk to call them for me instead of volleying back to the property management group, I was told to "hold on" and the line disconnected. I sat stuck in the exit with others behind me honking and yelling for another 20 minutes until finally I was allowed to leave by the people from the apartments. When I returned to the hotel and informed the front desk about the trouble I had experienced earlier in the day, I was told I "must have been doing it wrong." I'm 48 years old... this wasn't my first rodeo.
The breakfast, while appearing extraordinary, is actually mediocre and if you get up from your table to get food, be sure to have someone remain at your table. Otherwise your table will be cleaned by the staff and claimed by other breakfast diners- even if you leave personal items at the table clearly indicating you're still using the table.
The furniture in the rooms is low quality poorly assembled particle board junk. Be careful not to use it because when you check in, they'll put a $500 hold on your card "in case there is any damage to [the cheap] furniture. When you check out, don't expect someone to come check your room and verify there is no damage send release the hold on your card. Instead be preparedto be told they'll check for damage "sometime later" and the hold on your card will be released in 5-7 business days.
All of these frustrating experiences will be compounded by uncomfortable beds, trains (the hotel sits directly next to tracks), construction noise, thin walls, unhelpful staff and general overall subpar hospitality. Don't let the Hyatt label fool you - this is nothing more than a Motel 6 with lots of chrome.
Also... don't let the address mislead you. Despite what I was told when I called before booking my stay, the hotel is not "conveniently located," is not near the Pearl Street mall and, unless you're in Boulder to shop at Target, doesn't much in terms of what is close
Don't ruin your stay in Boulder by staying at this horrible horrible...
Read moreThis hotel is located in a newer transit subdivision area the city developed along with apartments/condos being built (across the street). The mass transit station was supposed to be built but that fell through. It will probably get built within the next 5 years. There are a few restaurants nearby like a dumpling place across the street (not bad) and a restaurant called Roadhouse Boulder Depot (also not bad) behind the hotel. There is also a large Barnes and Nobles about 1 block away. The first room we were assigned had a funky smell that my daughter and wife noticed so we went back to the front desk and exchanged for a different room. Rooms were clean and comfortable. There is a shuffleboard table on the first floor that kept the kids active. During our stay, breakfast was not free unless you are a Hyatt member and they will ask you for your room number. Selection of items didn't change very much, so it gets pretty boring. If you're lucky, you can find metered street parking nearby which is free at night and begin charging at 9am. The hotel has an arrangement with a 24/7 pay garage if you have a car. Beware this garage is not your typical garage. There are no gates to remind you to pay before you leave or attendants for you to ask questions. It is completely automated and records when you drive into the garage and when you leave. If you leave without paying, expect a ticket in the mail. If you forget to pay and realize it immediately after you leave the garage, expect a ticket. We tried to go back and pay but couldn't. We also called their phone number for assistance but got a recording to leave a message. We waited and waited, no one returned our call. Issues with the pay machine? Good luck. Bottom line, this garage is designed to screw tourists and the public. The garage also lacks adequate signage. Rates are not visible from the street until you go to their pay machine. I'm done ranting about the parking garage which is not part of the hotel. In other news, customer service at the front desk was excellent. My wife had dropped her driver's license in the lobby and since we were not in our room, they called letting us know and told us it will be at the front desk. They also helped us with our parking issue. Shout out to Matt and the rest of the front desk personnel for their service and hospitality during our stay and the maids that are rarely appreciated for their service....
Read moreI should start my review saying that I've stayed at multiple chain hotels across US and the world and do understand that they can't maintain the same level of customer service and comfort as we come to expect from boutique hotels.
Check-in experience: I entered the hotel around 11pm and things went south very quickly. The person at the front desk/check-in counter was yelling at someone on the phone about an unauthorized payment. If listening to a customer service rep yell at a customer wasn't bad enough, he didn't care enough to even acknowledge my arrival. in spite of there being no line it took me over 5 mins to get a room key. Horrible.
Room Service: It was 11pm. I asked for a bottle of water and some toothpaste before I went to bed. I was told that they would be available at the front desk. No delivery to the room. Hmm.. So I change out of my night clothes and walk down. Upon arrival at the front desk, I find out that a water bottle was chargeable. $4 for bottled water. WITHOUT room delivery. A bit much for something that I have to personally walk down and purchase at a hotel where I'm already overpaying ($225/night).
Late night food options: The menu in the room suggested that there are at least 8 dishes (freshly made, I suppose) available for purchase from 11pm - 7am. When I checked with room service, I was told that they didn't have any availability but for some paltry pre-packed salads from Starbucks. Not only was it inconvenient not to have any food options for travelers, but it was also false advertising. I see 4 placards in the room that have the late night menu on display. Rather embarrassing for an international hotel chain that has over 100 rooms at this location
Wifi: Horrible The staff admitted that the wifi sucked because of its high occupancy. This is a problem hotels faced back in the early 2000s. Fix it
For a chain that is supposed to have 4-stars and charges more than its competition, this was a rather disappointing stay. Please come here only if other options are...
