Their vinyl selection is pretty weak compared to other record stores out there, but since there are not many record stores in the area, they get away with being so small. Usually they have little to no shoegaze, psych, dark wave, goth, punk, synthpop, etc. In fact, a large portion of their daily collection seems like oldies stuff that nobody really wants. So if you are looking for some popular new release album, don't get your hopes up on finding it there just by walking in on any given day.
Another reason why I am leaving a negative review here is that they refuse to give you any estimate offers by email after sending them nice pictures of albums you have to sell. I think they can do a better job here and at least give you some ballpark estimate for mint condition albums, to give you a reason to haul a bunch of heavy albums to their store for a hard quote. Most stores that I have worked with will quote you a standard rate over the phone/email for mint condition albums. When talking with their staff, they seemed dismissive and ornery. Turn It Up? Sorry, more like Turn It Down.
EDIT: The response by the owner below is not accurate. I sent them clear pictures of mint condition albums, which they did see, and then I asked them for an estimate, as in what do they typically give for mint condition albums. Most records stores will give you a ballpark of what to expect, so you don't go there and waste your time. Then they copped an attitude and lost my business. The defensive attitude persists here below in their comments. My review is objective: 1) Their store has a small vinyl selection, missing out on several key genres. 2) Their appraiser does not have the right approach to customer interactions.
In the end, it is the attitude that was the real...

Carson is the most knowledgeable person we have ever met when it comes to picking out new and old artists and matching them up to your kind of genre. We even found a very rare CD for our collection. Thanks guys and Merry Christmas!!
10-8-23 Update Just went in and found a huge amount of CDs! It always amazes us while searching the store how many deals and finds we can come across each and every time. The staff is super nice and the experience is just so much fun and rewarding! We always spend at least 2 hours in the store.
Incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff - and the deals cannot be beat. We consider our visit to Turn it Up! to be a real treat and have so much fun hunting for our favorite artists. We also love to try new artists so we often go away with something new that was playing on the store speakers. At the very least, you have got to go in and browse their...
Read moreI've been frequenting Turn It Up! for over 5 years since moving to Southern Vermont. It's a little further from where I live now but I still try to make a visit every couple of months. I've bought movies, CDs, and books--it's great they stock all of those--but mostly I get vinyl. They have really good selection, with good turnover. I feel they fairly grade and price their used vinyl. And occasionally you can find a fun bargain. They also recently upgraded their listening station with a real turntable, rather than the cheap plastic portable thing they used to have; this is super appreciated--always felt that cheap thing was not great for the vinyl you were possibly buying. Staff is friendly and helpful; they've even kept an eye out for and helped me obtain records on my wishlist. Just an all round...
