This is a story, and I will keep it succinct.
TL;DR, Steven's kindness, empathy, and understanding were on par with his salesmanship in the most human way.
About six months ago, I had just started a new job after six months of tumult. I set up my old Sleep Number p5 that was a gift many years ago and the remote was no longer working. I had researched the cost of a new brain for the bed and didn't really want to go there, let alone a new bed. I called up the Flatirons location and asked if there was any way to get a new remote.
Unfortunately, there was no way to order that remote because it was a legacy product from a significant time ago. Coincidentally though (perhaps), one of the employee had found an old remote for that series of bed and had just been holding onto it in case a situation like this arose. At no charge, he offered it to me. I came in and picked it up.
Now, I used to train salespeople in a high-relationship environment and whoever hired Steven did really well by the company--I would have snatched him up in a moment. He is present, warm, funny, and does his job with the understated excellence that only a professional can. As we spoke, I mentioned that I might be in the market around mid-October for a bed if my new job went well. I let him know that I wanted him to follow up with me around then to see if something was feasible.
Months later, Steven followed up and had to left a very inviting message. I was able to return his call a few days later. That conversation felt less like a try at a sale and more like the continuation of our conversation from months ago. He either has a great memory, took great notes or both. He sets up an environment to listen, qualified very well, and really just helped me get clarity on my present situation and if I even wanted a new bed.
I did, as work was going very well; I came in and he guided the process in a way I always tried with my customers when I was in his position. So in short, go see Steven even if you're not clear on what you want yet. Stephen listened carefully to our concerns and recommended the i8 - not the priciest model, but absolutely the right one for our situation. His expertise was evident in how he explained the technical aspects of the mattress while remaining focused on how those features would address our specific needs.

We went in just to look and get more information and ended up purchasing two days later after we thought it over. Thomas Sparks, the gentleman who helped us was extremely knowledgeable, personable and not at all pushy. I really appreciated his demeanor and the time (over an hour I believe) he spent with us to make sure we had all the information we needed to make the best decision for us, even if it wasn't a Sleep Number. A large factor in our decision to purchase was Thomas himself. It is not often that a sales rep can make a purchasing experience as easy and pleasurable as Thomas did. I should know, I've purchased nearly a dozen vehicles in my lifetime so I've experienced a wide range of salesman.
