We recently stayed one night, from Saturday to Sunday, at a motel in Calistoga with our family, paying $350 for the stay. While the motel appears to have undergone some updates and generally presents as a clean place, our experience was quite mixed.
Upon arrival, we were unfortunately greeted by the unwelcome sight of spiders and roaches inside our room. We attempted to contact the office on Sunday morning before our early departure, but found nobody there. Therefore, we contacted them after our departure and spoke with Matt, who acknowledged the issue, stating they were "aware" and had even had the property sprayed three times in the last month. He attributed it to being "part of the area" and beyond their control, which wasn't very reassuring.
Beyond the pest issue, several other aspects detracted from our comfort. The lamps on the nightstands were not functional, and the shower head in our bathroom had notably low water pressure. It's evident the motel has attempted some modernizations, but at its core, it's an older property, and it definitely falls short of a "luxury" experience, especially given the $350 price point for a single night in a popular area.
Customer service was also just adequate. The staff member who checked us in was amicable, but didn't go out of their way to provide exceptional service; they seemed rather unenthusiastic.
In summary, the motel is decent, and they've clearly tried to make improvements. However, the persistent pest problem, minor maintenance issues, basic amenities, and what felt like a high price for the overall value left us with mixed feelings. If you're looking for a no-frills, basic stay and can overlook some imperfections, it might suffice, but temper your...
Read moreMy husband and I have been going to Napa over the last 5-10yrs and have been to numerous hotels and cottages; because of this, we were initially excited to try out a new place and go to Carlin Cottages. Unfortunately, we did not have an ideal experience - I purposely purchased a room with a soaking tub, and when I ran the tub, there was a smell of rotten eggs. Initially, I made an assumption that this is considered standard, but upon researching, it meant that there was “bacteria” in the drain. Because of this, it also made me apprehensive to use the shower. I called the office at around 9pm, but since it was after hours, there was no response - I was not given an alternative phone number in case of issues like this this occurred. Because of this, I went to sleep, since my plans for using the soaking tub fell through. They called me at around 10:30pm, but did not leave a message, of which I did not see till the next morning.
After the fact, I was told that I should’ve been informed of essential oils to be used to mask the smell, but upon check-in, I was not informed of this. Overall, I wasn’t happy with this experience, as I purposely bought this room with the soaking tub, which ended up being...
Read moreYowch! Perhaps the most amazing stay in my recent life! Positives: Re-done motel charm. Most tiles stuck to the wall/floor. Unique high gloss paint in all rooms. Some window seals not pushed into the window pane. A/C only blows cold air on the bed half the time. Management may be unpleasant but not present 99% of the time. Not so positive: Pool is behind a rotweiler-proof fence, and smells of fish. Lack of towel bar or hooks in room encourages free-form self-expression for towels, suits, yesterday's clothes. Shower curtain which falls off the curtain bar allows for nekked viewing. Shower bar itself allows easy repositioning, e.g. upright in a corner. Neighbor's mariachi band is easily heard until 11pm. Power failure produces innovative night time dark time activities, like sitting outside until 2am if it's hot, whether drying clothes outside (see note above re: towel racks and hooks) is appropriate, and lack of management...
