I checked into the SpringHill Suites in Cape Canaveral on November 15 2022. I was there for one reason, to see the Artemis I launch. This was actually my second time in Florida to see the launch. This time, it was to be at 1:04AM.
I arrived early afternoon to the hotel. It is very conveniently located. The young lady at the desk was very friendly and engaging. I asked the desk clerk where was the best place to see the rocket launch. She told me that you could see it from right in front of the hotel. She said that she had seen many. She said, “you feel a vibration, the windows rattle and you go outside and there it is”. I was looking for a better, unobstructed view of the rocket, lifting off Launch pad 39B. Luckily, I had done some research and found two places to watch the launch that were both within five miles of the hotel. Unfortunately, one, Jetty Park Pier, was closed because clean up from the two recent hurricanes was still being done. I opted for the other, a viewing area just outside the Kennedy Space Center gate near Launch Complex 25 and the Air Force Space and Missile Museum.
You could tell that this hotel had seen its share of NASA related traffic. As I would later find out, there were lots of people staying at the hotel that were directly and indirectly associated with the Artemis I project and launch. The hotel lobby was nice, modern and clean with plenty of light. The breakfast area was there at the edge of the lobby.
My room was quite spacious with a sitting area and a sleeping area. The room is divided by a desk area. There is a small fridge and a microwave oven. There is a sofa with a small coffee table. The television is in the sleeping area but easily visible from the sitting area. The bathroom had a nice shower. There was also a nice sized walk-in closet. The view from my window was the Port Canaveral Cruise Port and by chance Allure of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean ship that I had recently sailed on was docked with Port Canaveral being its new home port.
The hotel does have a laundry room, a pool and nice pool area with fire pit. The bar area actually is situated so that it can serve outdoors or indoors in the lobby. The hotel also offers free breakfast including both hot and cold options, a plus in my book. The breakfast options included eggs, a meat option and fresh, hot waffles that you make yourself. There are plenty of restaurants and a convenience store/gas station with two miles of the hotel. It is convenient to the highway and to the cruise port too.
I travel a bit and as I said before, this was my second trip to Florida just to see Artemis I launched. I would easily stay at this hotel again because it is modern, nice and clean. It is convenient, has laundry access and free breakfast. I cannot comment on the price because I used one of my free night certificates, that they actually accepted despite the rocket launch. For this type of hotel, I give it four and 1/2 stars. ...
Read moreWow, I am shocked at the bad reviews. This is a relatively new hotel. I booked it prior to our cruise, because it has a bar/restaurant in the lobby making it so we didn't have to go out of the hotel. Checking in, we were quite early and our room wasn't ready. They stored our luggage behind the desk and we got something to eat at the bar. They called my cell when the room was ready in only about 30 mins. On check in, they upgraded our room to a queen suite (I am gold Elite with Marriott & think that is why they did that). The room was clean, large and very, very nice with a shower and sink in a separate room from the toilet and another sink. There was a small fridge and there were complimentary bottles of water in the room. The room was so large, 6 ppl could have easily stayed there. There were 2 queen sized beds and a pullout sofa bed. In the evening, we went down to the bar area and ordered burgers and a shrimp po' boy...you place the order with the bartender and someone brings it out a little later. All the food was very good, the frys were outstanding. We even had left overs for the room. |For those of you just wanting snacks, there is an area next to the check in desk that sells drinks, snack foods, ice cream and even frozen dinners. I will warn you they are quite expensive, but no more so than we have paid at other hotels. |They had a great way of signing up for the port shuttle. There is a sheet at the front desk and also one in your room with a QR code. Scan that code & you can sign up for the time and ship you want to be transported to. It was $10pp and you get in line at the door behind the pool ...NO crowds etc. Only the people who signed up for the same time as you |I can't say much about the breakfast as we did not partake, only because we had the first boarding time on the ship and wanted to have breakfast there. I can say though, that it is served in a large area with plenty of tables and seats. The same tables and seats used by the bar/restaurant. There are numerous tables outside, close to the pool. |The pool looked very nice but we did not use. There were quite a few families using it though and appeared to be having a great time.|In all, we enjoyed this hotel and will be staying here again...
Read moreThe overall experience was great. We booked our room ahead of time to reserve it. Upon arrival it took maybe 15 minutes or so to get room keys. Parking was good. Had many available spots to park. Stayed for three nights on the third floor. Rooms are exactly as shown on there website photos. The bathroom shower was not hot enough for us. The shower head was a bit too high. Would have liked it to be lowered or removable to grab at least. Water still came out of the shower stall. Walking through the halls were a bit too cold but not manageable if you have a jacket or something warm to wear. The shower gel and shampoo dispenser wasn’t filled at all. Although it was not filled, the front desk gave us another one right away upon request. First morning was bagged breakfast with a muffin, yogurt, orange, granola bar and small bottles water. Was not aware of this until the morning. We should have been told that not hot breakfast was going to be available as we see on their website. Next two mornings it was available it limited to ham slices, bread to toast, bananas, waffles which were dry and eggs. We don’t eat pork and would have loved if it were alternative meat. Coffee was very weak like water. There’s coffee maker in the room but no coffee packets or any coffee items. Sometimes we heard noise through the walls which was a bit disturbing. Some knocking sounds as if work was being done while we were asleep. We like the hotel and wouldn’t mind booking again but we would love to have alternative breakfast especially many others would agree if they don’t eat certain items. The waffle batter needs more tweaking. I love waffles, but these were too dry. The orange juice had a bitter aftertaste and coffee was too weak. I’m not sure if this is for everybody’s stay. This is just our experience. The beds were very comfortable. Only issue near the bed is not any light except for reading lamps on the sides that are like spotlights. Whenever things are not as advertised there should be a discount on nights or some other accommodations for guests just for future reference. It would definitely be reasonable for guests and show the concern of management to guests’ experience and...
