I’m going to start this review with the fact that I work for a luxury boutique hotel and I do not see service like this every day. ||I arrived at the hotel with my friends on Sunday afternoon (around 1pm) and was immediately greeted by the wonderful valet (I regret not getting their names, because every single valet man was fantastic. We specifically love the blonde young man with curly hair who is going to Colorado this week, HAVE FUN)! ||After handing over the keys, we walked in and were greeted by Mikayla, the wonderful front desk agent, who informed us the room was not ready yet. That was no problem at all, they kindly held our luggage, gave us a glass of champagne, and kindly recommended fun activities to do in the meantime. In comes Eric, the property’s Sommelier; he greeted us warmly while setting up for their in-house wine class. He told us he had some spots open and would love for us to join him, which we decided to do. In the meantime, we headed up to Eleve (the property’s rooftop bar and restaurant) for a French 75 to commemorate our first time in Charleston. Our server, G, was so darling. He took our order quickly and had us out in time for the 2 pm wine class. Downstairs at a long, family style table, Eric explained to us the difference between 4 red wines and guided us in creating our own custom blend, which he then bottled and labeled with our chosen picture that we emailed to him ahead of time. So worth the money and a great bonding experience with friends. Eric was an absolute pro; knowledgeable, funny, personable, and patient. I’d also love to note that our room was ready halfway through the class and we received a text from Mikayla who had the keys waiting for us and our luggage brought to the room! ||After a long day of exploring, we ended back up at Eleve, where we had another delicious cocktail and chocolate cake. Our server, Ava, was a doll. She was quick, kind, and very personable (a theme between all the staff). Best way to end our night! ||Day 2, we had a fantastic breakfast in Maison Cafe (their breakfast restaurant) and had the perfect start to another day of exploring. Later that night we ended back up in Eleve (what a shock) and had the pleasure of meeting Nina (“Cash”), their fantastic food and beverage manager, who checked on us personally multiple times. She had nothing to worry about though, because we were in the hands of the incomparable Allen. He was our bubbly, sweet server for the night. He greeted us with the warmest smile and explained the menu and Happy Hour thoroughly. We were thrilled to see Ava and G again, lovely as ever. The Kessler Marg, fried calamari, and oysters were the perfect night cap. ||I know this review is long enough as is, but I just want to sincerely thank everyone for the phenomenal service from start to finish. I loved our short trip to Charleston, even though i’ve never sweat so much in my life, I will...
Read moreI have to first say that the over all look of the hotel is beautiful and location of the Hotel is perfect given the distance from great restaurants and amenities of Charleston. Unfortunately my over all experience at this particular hotel was bad and put a damper on us ever staying there again or at another Marriott autograph collection hotel. I booked this hotel given it was my one year wedding anniversary and they had a package that included champagne, breakfast in bed, rose petal turn down service and credit at the restaurant on site included with your stay. When I first arrived and asked them about the champagne they showed to have no clue about it or the package and told me they would look into it. So we went up to our room and after a hour or so I went down to check on this and the lady working the front desk stated they would alert the restaurant and have the champagne delivered at 7pm and confirmed the time twice. 7pm arrived and I gave them a 15 min grace period but I received no champagne or even a phone call stating it would be late so my wife in which this was suppose to be a surprise for called down to check on it and the restaurant said it would be right up. The manager downstairs called us back 5 mins later asking if it was delivered which showed that there wasn't any communication between the restaurant or the front desk. The next morning we were expecting to receive our breakfast in bed given we hung up our selection on the door and it was picked up that night. When our selected time of 9am arrived there was no sign or call from anyone so this time I gave them a 30min grace period until I called given there dysfunction . When I first called they stated they didn't receive the ticket and informed me they could take my order over the phone but by then we had decided it wasn't worth the wait and informed him we would call them back if we changed our mind. They then called back and informed me they found the ticket but they didn't first get it because it was in the trash!! I understand this may have been the truth but it only made the situation that more displeasing and disappointing. Having this experienced has truly ruined my respect for the Marriott autograph collections given my exceptions that were let down a this hotel and make me really reconsider booking at...
Read moreFilthy, disgusting hotel. When we arrived, the first thing I did was pull out the corners of the bedsheets (it's neurotic, but I like to do a bed bug check!)
When I pulled out the corner sheets, a pair of soiled underwear fell out of the bed. We brought this to the attention of the management, and the offered a credit at the hotel bar and sent a wine and cheese plate, promising to follow up with the custodial manager.
As our stay went on, I noticed more and more things that did not seem clean -- there was what appeared to be a large puddle of dried urine in front of the toilet, and there were long brown hairs near the sink and on the (clean?) towels. I called in the morning and asked that the cleaning folks address this when they touched up the room.
When we arrived at 3 PM, the cleaning staff had not come. I called again to let them know we were going out, and to remind them that there were some issues with cleanliness that they had said would be addressed. When we came back to the room at 8:30 PM, I was astounded to find that nothing had been touched -- the cleaning staff had not come at all.
I called the front desk to share my thoughts about having to call three times over the course of 12 hours to get housekeeping service at an Autograph Collection hotel, and the front desk said they would send someone right away and speak with the housecleaning management (hahaha , you need to come up with some new material, though!) They did worry that "no one may be on duty at this hour." (!!!)
When we arrived back at the hotel at the end of the night, the bed had been made, but all of the other issues -- including the hair and the dried toilet puddle, which by this point, I had just covered with a bath mat so I would not need to step in it -- was exactly the same as we left it.
We raised this with the management on our way out; she was apologetic and said she would "discuss it with the housekeeping supervisor." That and a quarter, you know?
Based on this experience, I would not stay at another Grand Bohemian, even though the decor was cool and the staff was friendly, if ineffectual. I would strongly suggest you to consider another hotel in Charleston until they can resolve these issues with...
