So nice, we went back for seconds in our 3 day trip.
My wife and I originally had reservations before dinner the first night to have some drinks and food. Adam greeted my wife by name, having remembered messaging with her on IG l, and thanked us for being there. Adam said it like he truly meant it and typically I only get that from my mom and dad.
My wife got the Bourbon & Clyde and I got the Doar Bros. Manhattan, which had recently been updated to an Oxtail fat washed Rye, which was a big part of the reason I ordered it because you don’t often get fat washed whiskey. Both did not disappoint. The silkiness of the rye was incredible. The drink was very balanced, exactly what you would ask for in a great cocktail. It was hard to decide what to get and we couldn’t get it all because we wanted to be able to walk out of there and be able to go back for drinks another time. Decisions.
We also got the Holy Mole Clarified Milk Punch. The attention to detail on their punches here is a sign they really care about great quality cocktails. The shrimp and the Brown Butter Popcorn were both great. Truffle, butter, and popcorn… What’s not to like?
We ended up back here the next night after we finished dinner and the place we planned to go to afterwards was hard to get a seat at. We knew we loved Doar Bros so we went back. I’m so glad we did.
Adam greeted us again and thanked us for coming back. He was able to seat us at the bar and we hung there for a bit. I got the Card-A-Mom and my wife got the Old Cuban. Both had great flavor profiles. Old Cuban was bright and the hint of bubbles makes it feel special. The Card-A-Mom was fresh from the citrus, then you get the Yellow Chartreuse and just a hint of spice from the black tea at the end. We got the assorted cheese tray, which was delicious. Cheeses and accoutrements were a great selection and the bread was fresh and soft.
I got a second drink that night and asked for dealers choice and the bartender made me something off the cuff. Calvados, Cocchi Americano, citrus and a spritz of Absinthe made this the perfect night cap. Let’s call it a Charleston Corpse Reviver No. 2, although it was not named. The bartender was very friendly and still making drinks with ease. That’s a great bartender, i.e. literally tending to the bar.
All the drinks and food you could tell has had serious thought put into them.
Can’t wait to go back. If you even read this far, go here. Then go again. Keep going and leave them a great review so we can come back on...
Read moreHad an amazing experience at Doar Bros. In Charleston, South Carolina!! Local friends took us there and absolutely loved it. We sat outside- was such a nice day out and a perfect spot to people watch! The service was fantastic outside as well. Our server was knowledgeable, swift and attentive. Inside they had probably about 10 tables and bar seating. They also had a super clean restroom! The star of the show were their amazing cocktails. We had a few on their menu. I also had a classic dirty martini with their house made vodka and blue cheese olives. We also had the TRUELY MADLY SWIFTIE-Highwire Vodka, Lychee, Cassis, Licor 43, Watermelon, Ginger, Lime, Carbonation, NINE DAYS OF GREY Lalo Blanco Tequila, Italicus, Coconut Milk, Earl Grey Honey, Lemon, Lavender Bitters and PEAR WITH ME- Barsol Pisco, St George Spiced Pear, Licor 43, Lemon, Cinnamon, Egg White, Absinthe Rinse. The food was also delicious- the brown butter popcorn was like crack and the cheese board had so many yummy cheeses with their accoutrements!! The prosciutto and mortadella were also delicious! Very fresh and a good portion size! Will def come back when...
Read moreOverall very dissapponted in this cocktail bar. Based on the reviews toasate, you’d think best cocktails in Charleston, but this was not my wife and I’s experience. First, the drinks were not well balanced. My wife’s cocktail (the knights who say Ni!”) tasted like apple cider vinegar and another patron next to us mentioned a similar taste and was not happy. Second, the service was very poor, took a very long time to be attended to, host was also serving all of the tables and taking orders, check was wrong, etc. just felt like from a service perspective they were purposely skimping. Lastly, the overall system was poor. Reservations for the bar of a cocktail bar? Went in at 7pm, no one waiting outside, 6 seats at bar and three 2-person tables inside but “there was a long wait”? All to be texted 10 minutes later saying they had a table. Overall, drinks and service were very poor compared to most other cocktail bars my wife and I experienced in Charleston.
Seahorse, Last Saint, Citrus Club, Bar Félix, etc all much better in terms of...
