It has been 3 days since the reply from the Inn as to our review. We see there was no comment about the reception area and the employees who neither dress nor comport themselves in any way worthy of the Inn's reputation. Sloppy appearances has led to sloppy work. Since when is it appropriate not to make eye contact with a guest? Since when is it appropriate to take personal calls on cells at work? The woman working in the afternoon on March 9th was the exception. She was attired appropriately, stood up to greet us and was interested in our visit. She was the ONLY employee who was professional! The Inn is NOT a motel; the employees should not act like it is!

No where did the Meeting Street Team address the velour bedsteads! What an unsanitary choice for bedding. Dust (dust mites), hair, germs all welcome this choice.

The new closet space already had a broken handle. We had to use a large paper clip to open and close it. Where did the iron and ironing board go?

Lastly, where did the beautiful Audubon Bird prints go? Where did the oriental rugs go?

So, so sad at the state of the Meeting Street Inn.

Our stay was March 9th to the 13th 2025 We have stayed at the Meeting Street Inn since 2008 (missed 2 years at various times) This stay was very disappointing! What was once a charming place has changed into just another hotel. The rooms' 4-poster beds are gone replaced by blue VELOUR bedsteads! The lovely bird prints on the walls are now blown up photos of the Inn. The in room safes are gone! The lovely wooden armoire that hid the tv is replaced by a faux wood cabinet and a large flat screen tv with terrible sound. The lamp between the beds is a huge faux marble light with the switch on the cord that is half way down the wall. The staff is very unprofessional in appearance and behavior. Basic manners require eye contact and a standing posture. The women's attire is unsuitable for work. The lounge area is not clean. What has happened to pride in the workplace which evidently ended last year. What happened to the chilled ice water that was available 24-7? What happened the warm coffee available 24-7? What happened to the fruit selection at breakfast? What happened to the hot pad for the food warmer? What happened to the signs indicating what the foods were in the warmer? What happened to the 4:00 check-in time? We saw guests still waiting at 5:30! My husband was born 84 yrs ago in Charleston; we come every year for his birthday. His parents owned a house where the Louis Vuitton shop sits now. We always loved coming to The Meeting St. Inn where we were greeted with, "Welcome home" by the staff members. What a shame that now guests are never told welcome. What a shame upon checking out that my husband remarked that the Inn was not the same, and the person checking him out did not even look up or say anything. When I asked for water, two different employees told me to purchase it out of the machine!! BTW, the machine...

This hotel is in a great location in the historic district and within walking distance to attractions and eateries. We absolutely adored our large room with it’s vintage furnishings and quaint four poster beds. The walls were sufficiently substantial to keep out any outside noise. The AC was perfect. Hardwood floors. The room was a nice size with shutters on the window. I really enjoyed the two comfy chairs set with a table, which remembers that there are usually more than one traveler! We loved the calm and relaxing walled courtyard with lush plantings and plenty of Bistro tables. Deep in the courtyard is a big tiled and sunken hot tub. Nobody seemed to use the tub and I can’t understand why. The water was lovely at about 100 degrees. My soak really eased my traveller’s back cricks. This hotel is not “dated.” Rather, it evokes a calmer, gentler, saner time to calm and sooth your spirit. Coffee, tea and cold drinks are available in the comfortable lobby. We really enjoyed the wine and cheese hour. The staff was great, and everyone was very friendly. Patrons tended to be older. I would come here again and do recommend it.

Now I’d like to critique my stay: breakfast is a big thing for me. If I don’t have to buy a breakfast, I’m much more willing to pay more for a hotel. The breakfast here was under-par for a hotel of this caliber in this price range. There should always be an egg (and I don’t mean a hard boiled egg) with breakfast meat offered. This hotel failed on this and was heavy on cheap carbs. Further, the baked goods offered were only mediocre grocery store quality and not bakery quality. At this price range. I don’t think I should have to consider going out to buy a breakfast rather than eating the hotel breakfast, but the quality of the breakfast buffet was just on the cusp. If it had been any lower, I would have just gone out for breakfast. I just expect better in this range, and the overall ambiance and substance of the Meeting Street Inn is just so high, it demands a better breakfast. I did take off a star for the breakfast. Secondly, the valves in my shower were completely backwards which could be disastrous for someone trying to turn it off by turning the taps. Thirdly, it was difficult to get my door to latch closed. These little deficiencies were quite tolerable and easy to work around. Finally, the parking is in an unsecured lot several blocks away. I had valuables in my car, and...

This is not the review I hoped to leave for this Inn. I was so excited to book a cute, historically inspired room in a prime location. Sadly, the description and pictures of “quaint rooms with 19th century decor and 4 poster beds” is completely false. They’ve updated the rooms and not the pictures or description of the hotel. As this was basically my main reason for choosing this Inn over other cheaper options, I was sorely disappointed instantly upon entering our room and seeing the modern design making this place blend in with your average Hampton inn. Unfortunately the disappointment didn’t stop there. The room was dusty, you could swipe through a layer on the window shutters, see clumps along the walls. Overnight our AC was running and upon waking, noticed our cooler, which was in front of the AC, was covered in this black soot like stuff. It was also all over the floor and presumably in the air we were breathing all night. We told the front desk and were told we’d get a new room later that day and repacked our things. We ate breakfast (which was very mediocre and sparse) and left to do some things. We returned to move to our new room in the afternoon to be told they’d just replaced the AC unit in our room and were not being moved. We were not happy we would have to stay in a room that had been exposed to this black material( dirt, mold, I don’t know what it is but it’s not good). We went back up to our room to think about what we wanted to do next when we were greeted by a large cockroach in our bathroom. This was the last straw and proceeded to cancel the rest of our stay at this Inn. We booked a stay at the Mill House just a block down the road and loved our stay there.

I’ve left two stars as the location of the Inn is prime and so close to anything you’d want to do in the main Charleston area, which with two small children was very important to me. The staff were very friendly throughout our experience and so end up refunding us for our remaining nights and parking without any pushback. This place has such good potential to be a cute, unique, historical Inn, but with the design updates I fear they’re making a big mistake. Instead of investing in new but worse furniture they should look into the upkeep of the bones of the...
