My wife and I had a delightful stay at Indigo Inn in Charleston. We were in town for an overnight Valentine's Day stay and chose the Indigo Inn because it was recommended to us by a friend and we thought the location would be good for our plans. Well, it turned out to be a very good recommendation. We were warmly greeted upon our arrival and soon were in our room on the third floor, accessed by an elevator in the lobby of the hotel. The lobby is small, but they take full advantage of all their space with a welcome counter, a seating area, and a counter on which snacks are provided. In the evening the restaurant hosts a wine and cheese tasting located in the lobby and in the morning a continental breakfast is ordered. When we came in from our night on the town we were welcomed back with milk and cookies on the lobby counter. All that adds up to excellent hospitality, a trait that is the premiere feature of the establishment. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and welcoming and we had the impression that they really cared about the quality of our stay.
Our room was nice, featuring a tall king-sized poster bed, crown molding, a dresser, and a walk in closet. The bed was comfortable, the water was hot, the climate control worked, and the room was clean. On the negative side, the bathroom is a bit cramped, though we appreciated that the toilet and shower were separate from the vanity. The carpet was clean but a little stained from use. The TV is on the small side, but we didn't care since we did not intend on using it.
Guest rooms surround a courtyard which is a comfortable space in which to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the surrounding city. It is appointed with several chairs and tables, plants, and a lovely fountain.
We had plans to visit several locations in Charleston and were pleased that we could walk to all of them easily. Parking is easily accessible and reasonably priced.
All in all, Indigo Inn is a great choice. You can find fancier hotels, and pay fancier prices. But you would be hard pressed to find a hotel with better hospitality and a better location. My wife plans on visiting Charleston in another month with her out-of-state sisters. She already has reservations...
Read moreWe just got back from a weekend stay with the Charleston Indigo Inn. Having been (recently retired) corporate travelers for 30+ years, we are too aware of the risks you run picking a hotel you don't know; so it was with our usual trepidation that we selected this sight unseen hotel as our base for a Charleston concert weekend. We got there early, and went in to ask if we could leave our car there while we ate lunch. We got one of the best "front desk" staffs either one of us had ever had. They said since you're here, we can check you in real fast, you can park here (same spot all weekend) then you can go eat and walk around town, and when your room is ready we'll call you. That âtoneâ was carried on for the rest of the weekend, it was all just that easy and professionally handled. The structure is old, but has obviously been remodeled extensively and was very clean and neat, roomy and generally fine for us. The happy hour and breakfast were great, and as far as the food/drink quality it was fine (if you are very picky about things like wine quality, aged cheeses, etc. nowadays you will probably be paying $800+ per night). As I say below, parking downtown is a BIG issue, and the Indigo Inn has itâs own lot beside the hotel (we literally parked like 30yds from our room).
Notes for Charleston âbeginnersâ include: 1) you need to recognize there are no inexpensive hotels downtown (and if there are, you wouldn't want to even walk by them); 2) there are also no ânewâ hotels downtown; 3) walking in downtown even after dark is much safer than you might think; 4) as I said, parking is a BIG issue downtown, and many hotels donât even have parking lots, they will park you in a deck well away from the hotel, so understand/consider any hotelâs parking when you book; 5) (of course depending on when you go) there are so many people downtown and sometimes you are packed into a crowd, so if you are COVID/Monkey concerned bring/wear a mask. A final note: if you need a good, clean, well-located, and not too expensive downtown hotel, just stay...
Read moreWe are an average couple, just looking for a nice CLEAN hotel to stay for my husbands birthday. Here are some things we noted- â˘Parking $25 per day. Not disclosed before arrival. â˘continental breakfast offered nothing hot except beverages.. The options were a few danishes and muffins, fruit(no berries) cereal, yoghurt, and hard boiled eggs. Not enough protein offered. If you are gluten free, dairy free, or have an egg allergy you wonât be able to eat here. â˘wine and cheese hour was a blessing. We did enjoy this as it was a simple charcuterie spread with miniature wine bottles to choose from. Good for an afternoon snack when itâs too early for dinner and perhaps you missed lunch during travel. â˘clean rooms, not over complicated. We didnât bring our child but I wouldnât have worried about her if we did. The layout was comfortable and the floors being a light carpet really made us feel sure they were clean. â˘tv setup. Nothing fancy, just simple channels/cable. Donât expect to binge your Netflix show, but itâs there if you want something. â˘we missed the milk and cookies sadly due to not arriving from dinner until 10:10 so I cannot give feedback on this. â˘the courtyard/halls were like a greenhouse/sauna. Hot and humid like it was tropical. â˘the rooms had a few flaws such as unsanded and unpainted patches in the wall, and the furniture didnât really match the experience of historic downtown(more like thrift store early 2000s furniture) but it wasnât terrible. If we had to go back to Charleston we would probably stay at their sister hotel, the jasmine house as it seems they offer some slightly different things and they are right across the street. We were glad to not worry about bugs, drugs, or cleanliness most of all so if you are looking for those things this would be a sure fit. The hotel rooms are inside the center of the building overlooking the courtyard and unless someone goes through the lobby the only people in and out are the hotel staff and guests, so no strangers sitting outside your door at 5 am. One night stay with parking was a...
