Covid is finally in the rear mirror so my wife and I decided to take a few days to get away from home for a change.||||My wife is a planner so see did her thing and investigated places to visit that were a reasonable drive from our home in Westchester County NY (2,5 hrs.) and came up with the RI shore towns area.||||"A Shore Thing" B&B was central in the area and a short drive to many of the areas attractions. This B&B was not on the beach but rather a short ride of about a mile from the Charlestown beach. Parking is available right across the street from the beach and if you didn't want to pay the towns $20 fee Pat & J will give you a in the "B&B bus" which was very accommodating of them. ||||The Inn itself was in very good condition (I'm am Inspector by trade so I see things others dont...LOL) and was VERY clean and organized.||||The rooms (we had the 'Art Room") were tastefully decorated and comfortable. Beds and linens were of high quality and smelled "fresh". Plenty of trowels were provided for bathing and the beach! Hot water and pressure was better than most B&B's we have been to (dozens) so that's always a nice surprise.||||Daily breakfast was hot and tasty! The fruit cup starter was always delicious and "crisp". We stayed for 3 days and each mornings plate included a main entrée, eggs, bacon or sausage in some form and an extra here and there. We had Broccoli and Cheese omelets, Blueberry Pancakes, and a "stuffed" Croissants - all were very good and filling! Apple and orange juice was available as well as coffee and teas as one would expect.||||This B&B also has a small "kitchenette" where guests can help themselves to free hot and cold beverages and assorted snacks and munchies. They even have ice for your mini-cooler if you are going to take a lunch and drinks to the beach!||||There are a great little Bakery, Deli, and full service Restaurant directly across the street so you dont have to drive anywhere if you dont want to. (The bakery and restaurant were both worth a visit.)||||One of the hidden gems here is the "Barn" gift shop which is directly behind the B&B. Pat mans the the register after breakfast hours. This is a very nice shop that features many craft and art items from local artists. Prices are reasonable and my wife was able to pick up a few birthday gifts for the family. ||||There are several outside tables, hammock, benches etc. if you want to just relax and read or take an afternoon snooze.||||Overall we would certainty recommend "A Shore Thing" to anyone who wants to get away for a few days and at the same time feel "at home".||||Thank you again Pat and Jen for a wonderful time and your...
Read moreJenn and Patty, the proprietors of A Shore Thing at Charlestown Beach, RI, excel at creating a welcoming atmosphere having designed the Inn with guests front and center. We enjoyed Jenn and Patty's enthusiasm and hospitality from the onset.
Some noteworthy highlights:
Each guest room and private bath is well-appointed and impeccably clean, having anticipated the needs of guests. Quality bedding, thick towels for shower and beach use, sitting areas in each room with swivel TV's and private bathrooms, the home away from home feeling is enhanced with plenty of natural light. The parking and grounds are also worth mentioning as art and seating adorn the gardens should you enjoy a stroll or a repose. And parking is within close proximity to the Inn's entrance. Upon arrival, we were given a tour of the Inn's common areas, from a spotless, inviting kitchen designed to ensure guests have access to the essentials to a cozy dining room where delicious homemade breakfasts are individually served from Jenn and Patty's scratch kitchen. Please note: the breakfast menu, which varies daily, deserves its own review given the 5 star culinary delights that are plated and served fresh, catering to individuals with certain dietary needs when specified in advance, featuring amazing scrambled eggs, cooked to perfection french toast or a frittata designed with a farm to table eye for fresh fruit, herbs and the like.
If you have put A Shore Thing in your queue of potential places, please move this wonderful establishment to the top of your list.
Before I close, the history of this B and B, the area in which it resides, beautiful Charlestown Beach within a mile of the Inn, and the convenient access to highways and byways also make this location a stand out. Jenn and Patty are well-versed in all of the above and willing to assist guests.
Much about our stay is memorable, and we will return; however, I am so glad that one morning I decided to re-live my younger years, and shower alfresco at the Inn's outdoor shower, which is a far cry from the outdoor showers of my youth! The Inn's shower is designed with ample space for towels and toiletries ( the major ones are supplied for your convenience), built -in substantial seating and shelving for that cup of home-brewed coffee, compliments of the Inn, or your refreshment of choice, sunshine or moonlight, it's worth the...
Read moreMy friend and I were in town for a wedding and needed to find accommodations close to the venue that wouldn't break the bank. We found A Shore Thing online and booked the Beachcomber Room for two nights. It was a small room with two twin beds foot-to-foot, and it was absolutely perfect for us. The location was very convenient to restaurants and the beach. The room is nicely appointed with comfortable beds, a decent size bathroom, and nice toiletries. The room is one of the cleanest places I've ever stayed. It's clear that a lot of attention to detail is given and the owners take a lot of pride in the property. Patty and Jen were very communicative prior to our trip and were delightful in person. The breakfasts were positively delicious, and we also enjoyed shopping at the darling shop behind the property. I would definitely book at A Shore Thing again if I was ever in the area. Thank you, Patty and Jen, for a...
