We recently visited our kids who were camping in Narragansett. We are NOT campers ourselves and decided to see if there were dog-friendly accommodations nearby. We were happy to find that The Surfside did allow dogs. Our room was very clean, had plenty of drawers for clothing, a good size refrigerator, kitchenette with a microwave, toaster and drip coffee maker. Dishes, glasses and utensils are provided. The bathroom had plenty of towels and hair and body products, although we did not use them, preferring our own. Debbie the manager checked us in and told us to hang the "services needed" sign on the door in the am if we wanted anything. We did and were provided with fresh towels, which is exactly what we wanted. The king size bed had nice, crisp percale sheets and new comforter. It is a very firm mattress which is not my first choice but it was ok for two nights. The air conditioner cooled the room very well although we chose to sleep with the windows open and in tandem with the overhead fan. We ate our quick dinners outside on the picnic tables.||When I researched other places, the prices were similar to The Surfside but others did not offer a pet-friendly environment. This is a nice place to stay in the area and if you are looking for The Four Seasons experience Surfside is not your place. However, it is great to discover a clean and accommodating place to stay that allows you to bring your furry...
Read moreWe hosted a large party this summer and our out-of-town guests needed a place close by to stay. The Surfside was able to offer us a block of ten rooms at $179/night, minimum of two nights. This is a good deal for the area in July and $20 off their regular price. There's not much competition in Charlestown, so these places don't have to try too hard. Starting with my guests trying to book their rooms, they could never reach anyone! I kept getting texts from my family, "are you sure they're open?" No one answers the phone." "I left a message...no one's called me back!" Once my guests arrived, they were disappointed. The rooms are very small and while some did get a small kitchenette, as pictured on the website, some didn't though they paid the same price. I heard about the trickle of water in the shower that was smaller than a boat's shower! The room itself was so small that a blowup mattress, brought for a grandchild, had to block the door. One couple left some change on the dresser that was taken the day before they checked out! The only thing positive that they all agreed on was that it was clean and close...
Read moreWanted to do a girls weekend in Newport and found the SurfSide, a reasonably priced family owned establishment within an easy travel distance to Newport.||||Looked like the room had been recently updated. Pleasant and restful colors. Very clean. Room was a bit small but an ok size for two, especially since most of our time was travelling about.||Power outlets could have been better placed for access to charge electronics...2 phones, two Kindles. Bathroom very clean but the shower was a bit small as I am a larger sized person.||||The setting reminded us of a nice backyard. Could sleep with open windows and not much sound to disturb you. Found the other guests be friendly, kind of like a neighborhood. Adirondack chairs, picnic tables, gas grill and fire pit available.||||Went to school in Newport and had not been back for a long time. Think this place may work for return visits||||We did not have one of the rooms with a kitchenette, but we had a refrigerator and microwave, which was fine...
