Getting into the hobby of collecting Sports Cards is an endeavor that requires you to do your homework before you get into it. Unfortunately, there are many in this hobby that would rather play pawn broker than teacher. In other words, they would rather take advantage of you and rip you off rather than educate and try to help you learn the basics of Collecting 101. While I will not give out any names, many of the Sports Cards/Hobby Shops in Charlotte and the surrounding area are like this. In fact, they are filled with pretentious jerks who enter the hobby not for a love of collecting and discussion of said Sport/Trading Card Game, but instead for profit and moving on to the next Rookie/Hot Commodity when the previous is history. With that said, Replay Sports Cards does NOT fall into the negative categories that I have listed. On the contrary, they are the best example of what a Sports Card/Hobby Shop should be.
Every time I have entered their establishment, their employees have treated me with dignity and respect. They are a business first and foremost, but unlike most of the shops I have been to, they actually take the time to talk to me about the sports that I enjoy to watch and collect. I have sold my cards with them and they provide me with reasoning as to why something is priced the way it is. I can't remember the employees' names (and I apologize since I am horrible with names), but all of them have been cool with me and dealing with them is never a hassle. They give me a good price for the cards that I have and in turn, I receive cash to deal with my personal stuff as well as some pulls for the game they have in store where you call a number and you get the card from the chip that they randomly pull out of a bag. If you are lucky, you might even get a wheel spin or get more pulls because you called the exact number that was randomly pulled out of the chip bag. On two occasions, they have even accommodated me because I was/am a repeat customer. In other words, if you take care of them, they will most certainly take care of you.
In conclusion, I can't speak for anyone's experience since they vary and depend on what an individual values. Even my complaints about other Sports Card/Hobby Shops in Charlotte might not ring a bell with everyone since a shop I might dislike may be the go-to for other individuals. I can only speak for myself and my experience with Replay Sports Cards. With that said, my experience with this shop is the best out of any shop that I have been to in Charlotte, North Carolina. Ever since I discovered it earlier this year, it has been my go-to for whenever I need to sell some cards, talk about my favorite football team in the Carolina Panthers, and get some cards for the collection at reasonable prices. This is the only card shop I will continue to go to from now on and the only one I would recommend for anyone to check out. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. Thank you...
Read moreWhat is up with the pricing on singles? I understand that you need to make a profit and should price at or slightly above eBay comps, but most of this stuff was way out of range. Pricing may be “negotiable,” but when the prices start as high as they currently are, it’s a non-conversation starter for most customers. They currently have a BGS 9 MJ rookie for $40,000, which is way more than double what these things are going for on eBay. Same with the lower end stuff too. I won’t be back, but do genuinely wish you luck with a successful business.
UPDATE: Adding to my review after the owner's snotty response and have decided to downgrade them to one star from two. Why is your only excuse for insanely high prices that you are a small business? You have done this on every single low review. I understand that you have overhead, but it DOES NOT mean that you should be charging 3x the market value on all of your cards in the showcase.
I am also not new to the market, so please do not offhandedly insult my intelligence - have been in the market 20+ years. There are many other options for card shops here in Charlotte, and I'd suggest that customers considering this store take their...
Read moreThis was an incredible place. The associates were super friendly and knowledgeable, which was probably the highlight of my trip out there. The store itself is gorgeous, clean, and well lit. Layout is good too, you pretty much have a case on the left with all the high end singles, back wall with wax to rip, and right side with a seating area and their live stream equipment.
In one trip, I was able to sell some singles (which they told me they offer 75% of comp on...their offer seemed pretty close at the time, and it definitely saves on shipping), play their super fun and high value chip game, send off some cards to be graded, and chat with the boys. To further expand on their grading service, they will even check your cards in house and provide an estimate on what the grade might come back as before you even send it off. This could save you a lot of time and money in the long run.
Overall it was a really good experience that I would highly recommend to anybody in the area who is down with the hobby. Only slight downside is the tricky parking, but that's Charlotte for you and considering most of the downtown traffic, it's not as bad as other areas.
Bottom line, just...
