Title: Poor Service and Lack of Honesty
I had a wonderful experience dining at the Uno in Florida, so my wife and I were excited about eating at the original location in Chicago. Unfortunately, our experience was terrible.
We were told the wait for a table would be 30 minutes and the pizza would take 50 minutes to be ready. We understood and agreed to wait. They took our phone number to notify us when the table was ready. We walked to Miracle Mile to do some shopping while we waited, but within 15 minutes, we received a message that our table was ready. We rushed back, and when we arrived, I informed the host of our text. Without verifying our name, she seated us. After 5 minutes, the waitress came to introduce herself. We told her we placed our order when we checked in, as per their instructions, and she took our drink order.
We noticed our table was wobbly, so we asked for shims to level it. A staff member came over but simply repositioned the table to fix the issue. At this point, the guests at the table next to us received their food, and we inquired about ours. The waitress asked us what we had specifically ordered, which seemed odd since we had already placed our order when we arrived.
After waiting for some time, I asked the waitress for a menu, as we were hungry and wanted to order appetizers. She brought the menus, along with a new waitress, stating they were changing shifts. I asked how long appetizers would take, and I was told 10 minutes. I also asked how long until our pizza would be ready, and she said 10 minutes as well. Based on that, we decided to wait for the pizza instead. Fifteen minutes later, and after watching a second table (seated after us) get their food, I called the waitress over again.
I asked, "Where is the breakdown here? Two parties have received their food, yet we are still waiting, even though they were seated long after us. You told us 10 minutes, and it's been 18." I showed her the timer on my phone. She said she didn't know but would call her manager. Shortly after, the gentleman who had adjusted our table returned, saying our food was just about to come out. I asked him the same question: "Where was the breakdown?" I wanted to know why we were given incorrect information and why other tables were served before us. He insisted it was because they were busy, and our food was on its way. While he was saying that, the pizzas finally arrived. The manager walked away without saying a word.
As for the food, the toppings were good, but the bread tasted stale.
The oven takes the same amount of time to cook a pizza, so clearly, something went wrong. When we returned after getting the text, they didn’t take our name, and the waitress didn't verify our order until I called her over a second time. When we asked about the appetizers and were told "10 minutes," she did not check to confirm if what she was saying was accurate. The manager, when asked, didn’t seem interested in investigating what went wrong, so this same scenario could be avoided for future guests. The 80 minutes we agreed to wait turned into over 120 minutes.
I understand it was busy, and I recognize the high-stress nature of the situation, but that doesn’t excuse misleading the customer or giving false information. It doesn’t excuse the lack of a simple apology or an explanation like, "When you were seated, we did not start your order because we didn’t take your name."
I had a wonderful experience at Uno in Florida twice, and we passed other pizzerias to eat here because of my wife’s dietary needs, but based on the customer service we received, we won't be returning to this location. Waiting isn’t an issue for us, but being misled and not being given honest answers leaves a bad taste...
Read moreRacism, Discrimination, and bigoted behavior. People of color avoid Due pizzeria like the plague. Disabled veteran who cant stand long periods of time, asked to leave section because waiter makes money from tips. Please read.
So as anyone knows Due or Uno's you order pizza and wait an hour for a table. My mother and Father in law have been going their for 45 years. So in keeping with family tradition I wanted to bring them along with my wife and kids there. So my wife and I are disabled vets and my wife can not stand for long periods of time. So the night we went my wife asked the front desk if she could sit at the tables outside until our table was ready. The said sure and if the section that my wife was sitting at filled if she would get up for the other guest. So as I and the kids waited down stairs my wife and Mother-in-law go up stairs to sit down. Periodically I would check up on them.
So within 5 minutes of them sitting down the waiter asked them to leave his section. He said that they cant sit there because he makes money by the tips. Enter me checking in on them. So I asked what's going on? The very rude waiter said what I mentioned before, so I said you have 5 empty tables, my wife is a 100% disabled veteran, my mother in law is 71 years old and the host said it was okay for my wife to sit here until our table was ready. The waiter said the hostess doesnt work this are I Do and they need to move. So I asked for his name and he said they have it and nodded his head towards my wife. So I said to my wife let me get manager. So i went downstairs and asked the hostess for the manager when the same waiter came by and said I will get the manager for you. 5 minutes later no manager. So I asked the hostess again for the manager. A few minutes later a manager who said he was the EN manager cam and I asked if I could speak with him outside as to not have customers hear what I was going to tell him. So we went to the stairwell and I saw a lady was talking to my wife who obviously worked their. So I mentioned to this manager the issue and he said looks like she is taking care of it. I asked him what the waiters name was and he said David. Please follow along here. So now the lady is the Manager the other guy I spoke with is the kitchen manager. So now the manager tells me that she was sorry and it was okay if my wife sat their. I mentioned that the waiter told my wife his name was Josh and the other manager said it was David. I asked what is his name? The manager said his name is Edward. So the manager April very apologetic and said she would talk to Edward. So we sat at our table inside and everytime Edward came by he would look and grin at our table and he made eye contact with me and put his bird finger up like he was scratching his nose. Class act right?
If your still with me here is the biggest concern. My wife is a black female and I am white. Edwards section my wife was sitting in had all white customers. Edwards racist. Discriminatory, actions were inexcusable and warrant his removal from the restaurant at least for that night. Discrimination comes in all forms and racist are every and they act out in they only way they have power. Like Edward did to my wife. Even though April the manager was apologetic and accommodating, the actions of the waiter ruined the whole night and what was a once found memory of a tradition. To think my wife and I served 45 years collectively of military service for a racist waiter to act in such a...

The only reason this place stays in business has to be because everyone is a tourist and it’s close to everything. We ordered salads. There was so much dressing (ranch wasn’t good to me either) that the croutons were as if they were sitting in water all day. We ordered an individual deep dish to share. They brought it out on a white plate. The crust was already broken off one slice when it came out. Not a good presentation. The slices weren’t cut through the crust, so we used our butter knives pressing as hard as we could through the thick hard crust. My daughter asked me for a side of ranch for her crust, but we never seen the server again until we went looking for her 15 minutes after our meal was done. Our waitress never came to check on us ONE TIME! Our food came before drinks. The Godfather beverage I ordered tasted watered down. The server was what made the experience extremely awful. She started off polite. Then didn’t speak after the initial greeting. My daughter and I ate outside. Since she never came back and we couldn’t find her, we went back in to ask the hostess to pay. While we were waiting, our server comes running down the stairs and passes us with her backpack on. My daughter asked if she really just seen that. We were in disbelief. She then comes back and says, “ladies, are you looking for this?” Handed us our check and left while the hostess cashed us out. Unbelievable! Not one apology. There was another server outside who had every other table around us and we seen her numerous times. The only strange part about that interaction is one of her tables asked for Parmesan and she grabbed it from our table and gave it to them. The couple looked confused and told us sorry and asked if we still needed the cheese. According to our receipt, our servers name...
