First time visiting Chicago and Wife and I came here on our first night and had some food and drinks and it was great! The second night was a little different, wanted to watch a Football (soccer) match and they were kind enough to find the channel to show it. There was a woman there who may have been the manager ( short, heavy set with tattoos with a flower in her hair was very rude!) it was clear they were having trouble finding the channel for the match and I kindly went up to her to help her and she responded rudely I was told after that they were waiting for a "2-step verification code" at that point I didn't mind much if they couldn't show the match since it was already close to half time. I ended up watching it on my phone which was no big deal just could have been better watching it on the TVs inside the bar. Then a young gentleman came up to the bar and asked for the manager by her name it seemed he was a worker since he was asking for some keys, the "manager" was crouched down behind the bar checking or counting some bottles when she blindly just threw the keys towards to the bar top to the gentleman while she was crouched and not looking, the keys she threw hit my Wife's hand and glass she was holding. The gentleman said sorry and just continued to what he was doing. That was the deal breaker for me, asked for my bill and left. I just think a little more attention or even just common courtesy of standing up and handing the keys to the gentleman instead of throwing them blindly behind you onto the bar where you have customers sitting. It's very unfortunate since the first night Justin "our waiter" was outstanding he was very attentive and very nice, He also mentioned that they might be able to show the game which was the reason we returned. Sitting down and having some food 10/10, being at the bar well different story. We will be returning to Chicago but maybe not Elephant...
Read moreMind you this happened a year ago, but I still think about it a fair bit. Never had a worse experience at a bar/restaurant in my life…
Got Ariana as a bartender. Ordered two drinks (One for me and one for my friend). Never checked up on us for 20 minutes. Our drinks were empty for a long time. We had to catch a train so we asked for the check. I got the check paid and left a tip and started walking out. The bartender yelled at me to wait. Shouted at me that I was “stiffing her”. I was confused because I’d paid my tab and I left a tip. (And by the way tipping is still optional in this country). I walked outside and she apparently sent a waitress outside to bring me back in. So that she could yell at me some more And charge me for the drink, that she “comped”. She continued to yell at me publicly and berate me because I didn’t “tip her enough” After she comped a drink.
Number one. I didn’t know that she had comped a drink... Second… even if she did, What’s the point of comping a drink if the customer has to pay for it anyway by way of over tipping? Shouldn’t just be a “nice gesture“?
I tipped over 30%. Now you tell me: what is the appropriate amount To tip if a bartender comps you a drink? I would’ve much rather paid for the drink than play these mind games with the bartender and be yelled at shouted at dragged back into the restaurant and made to pay for the comped drink… This was a horrible experience and even though this happened a long time ago, I still think about it quite a bit.
Avoid this place. I’m...
Read moreWe called in here (Adams) at the end of May to have a drink & watch Chelsea in the Conference League Final. The female at the door looked bored out of her skull & almost annoyed that she had to move to show us to a table. Menu's were set down & we decided to order beers & food. The server came to take the order & when we asked for beers she asked for our I.D.'s. As 61 & 62yr olds we just looked at each other! All we had were our over 60's Bus Passes (with photo & DOB), which she wouldn't accept & our passports were back in the hotel safe. She said it was the law. We told her we'd been in Chicago for 3 days & this was the first time we had been I.D.'d, plus we were quite obviously over 21yrs old & not on a lunchtime binge & likely to cause a fight! She reluctantly said she would 'let it go, this time'. She brought the beers & then we ordered the wee pies. My partner then asked for a glass of wine. Well, shock, horror ... she was told she could only have one drink at a time! This was getting more ridiculous by the minute. When my partner said she wanted the wine with her food the server said she would have to go & get another server, who duly brought the wine! The pies were very good, but I had to ask twice for the side of fries we ordered & by the time they came we were just finishing the pies. A bizarre experience. Weirdly none of the other reviews mention any non-locals/tourists being asked for I.D. just to...
