This hotel is very complicated to review quite honestly. It could be a beatdown motel and would still be desirable based on the location and surrounding beauty. That said, as someone who stays in a lot of hotels (rollover diamond status), the service here is a joke.
Check in: expect there to be multiple people who stare at you from behind the counter while you wait in line to check in. Once you do reach the person who has drawn the short straw and has to work you will be commanded to swipe your card (again there is a right way and a wrong way to great guests). I casually asked if there were any king rooms available, as when I booked two queens was the only option, and was rather abruptly told no, without so much as a look on the computer. Interestingly the Hilton app showed rooms in multiple king varieties for the duration of my stay that I could have booked as I stood there. I was not told where the elevators are, any of the amenities, and had to enquire about the nightly credit for diamond. Also note, during our entire stay the lobby always smelled of old cooked fish.
The room: it is ok at best but had not been cleaned. Thankfully it is a new hotel so the oldest the sheets can be is about a month. There was a wadded up dog bed in the corner from a previous guest, the floor was dirty, as was the shower glass. I would go as far as to say it hadn't been serviced, but the beds were made. No idea why, but the smoke alarm has the brightest LED on earth on it, like strobe light bright, like can see it through your eyelids bright. The shower is quite nice, and they do have nice soaps (if there is enough in them, one of ours was nearly empty).
The bar: very similar experience to the front desk with a slight twist. The bartender assigned to be the sole employee who does anything while everyone else looks at you was very friendly every night, however if you needed anything you definitely had to wait while 4-5 servers, host, and bar back watched. One night we ordered 2 gin and tonics (that will be 25 dollars with rail gin) and one of them was completely flat and had remnants from the soda gun of what was likely cola and a dried out lime wedge. While this all sounds petty, it is the small things that separate a brand from another. What is the difference between this hotel and a Hilton Garden Inn? Nothing.
The location: simply fantastic, walking distance to restaurants, breweries, a little beach area, walking trails, etc. Go watch the sunset with a drink by a fire pit or from the hottub, sitting on the dock, whatever excites you.
Check out: make sure to check your bill, mine was missing nightly credits. When I pointed out that my wife was also on the reservation I was told to make sure I add her? This was while 3 people who I believe were in training stood in the back and talked about their plans for the weekend and allowed a queue to form waiting for the desk agent to figure out how to deal with my missing credits (never was correctly resolved but I wanted to leave more than I wanted a few dollars).
Long story short, I would stay here again for the location, but would not spend my own money to do so. Basically, this hotel is snatching defeat from the...
Read moreThis hotel is NOT fully built. We heard it was a new hotel, but it is not complete. Our room number was a piece of paper taped to the wall, there was a door missing in the bathroom, our friend’s porch was screwed shut, we had porch chairs and they didn’t, they had a shower door but we didn’t, some drywall repairs were needed in the bathroom, not all balconies have lights on them, shower soap dispenser is not attached to the wall, we weren’t informed that housekeeping is by request, and the pool area was trashed. (I’m sure this list of issues is also incomplete.)
To me, most of these are punch-list items that should’ve been resolved by the construction crew before opening for guests. I’m guessing they ran out of money? And they certainly didn’t charge less to make up for the incomplete rooms.
Also, there are spiders everywhere, all the porches, over the beds/on the ceilings (pics from multiple rooms), around the AC vents.. I am not afraid of them, but half of our visitors were and there was no escape. Clearly no one was dusting around to get rid of bugs, wasp nests, and spiderwebs.. Maybe the same crew who were trained to clean/tidy the pool area..
We had a block of about 10 rooms while visiting for a wedding and everyone’s room was different and missing something different. We asked the front desk about ours and the guy said the missing door at the toilet “is a fun feature.” I’m sure he was intending the lighten the situation, but it clearly used to have a door, the frame was painted around the hinges, then the door was removed.. very odd, and also really inconvenient and uncomfortable.
(Side note: Yes, it’s evident that two doors would hit each other, but that’s common in rooms with the toilet door option. It’s worth the clunky door situation to avoid smelling your boyfriend’s poop for the first time, or to be able use the bathroom mirror to get ready for a wedding without dealing with the stench. And it’s unfortunate to have to use the lobby bathroom for your own poops so your bf doesn’t have a similar experience.)
Hopefully the hotel will use the $20,000+ (just from our group) to complete the building for future guests. Or at least they can consider a disclaimer and discounted rate “during completion of construction,” because I’ve had nicer experiences at Holiday Inns...
