Food is typically good. Sometimes it's a little underwhelming considering the price.
It's difficult going here because we're always worried about the staff. There are several long time servers there who are extremely rude, ignore us throughout the entire meal and then hover like vultures when it's time for the check. It's frustrating and awkward.
Once, the several made an extreme error on our checks. Rather than waste time, one person paid all of one bill and the other person paid the other bill and left a very large tip on hers. Because they hadn't split it, we split it ourselves by one person paying for the other person's sushi and the other person leaving an extremely generous tip for both of us. The waitress stormed back over and slammed the book down on the table. Since that day, she has continued to be rude to us everytime we've come back.
Now, we go over every detail on the checks - which are usually wrong. When asked to correct mistakes, we get cold shoulders.
It's a shame, because the hostess (who I assume is the owner?) Is very sweet every time we've been there. And the food is typically worth what we pay. But the experience is usually tense and so awkward.
If Canadaigua ever gets another sushi restaurant, we'll probably start exploring our other options. Would love to keep supporting them, but it's getting harder and harder to ignore the behavior as...
Read moreAfter getting told that Nolan's didn't have any tables the night we arrived in Canandaigua, we decided to get some sushi, figuring it would be quick and good. We were right about half of it.
Sakura's was crazy busy, and there weren't nearly enough servers on to cover the customers who were getting plain old food over hibachi. We got a booth (man, that thing was a bit uncomfortable - short and angled strangely) quickly, but had to wait at least 15 minutes for a server to help us. After ordering, it was another 15 for the food to start coming out, and one item was forgotten, so we had another 10 before the meal was complete.
Good news is the food was good. We got a couple rolls, some tempura shrimp and veggies, and some nigiri. One of the rolls was stellar (spicy tuna and mango), one was good (spider crab), the tempura was a bit too heavy and thick for my taste, but the nigiri!!! The nigiri!!! The rice was the absolute star, and the fish was fresh and sweet.
TLDR: A decent enough dinner for the price, maybe not worth the wait. Didn't try the hibachi, so can't...
Read moreI have been to this restaurant twice in the last month. Yesterday, 09/11/2023, was the second time. The first time I was there, I ordered two California hand rolls that listed Tobiko as one of the fillings. I did not happen to notice any in the handrolls that I had. Yesterday I ordered four California handrolls and again checked what ingredients should be in there and Tobiko was one of them. Each handroll was 7.50 and none of the handrolls had any Tobiko in them. I had taken the handrolls home to eat and only found out then that they had no Tobiko. Being someone who has made a lot of sushi for a lot of people, it angered me that whoever failed to put it on my handroll had cheated me and they knew it. I’m sure they thought that the person they sold it to would not know the difference. They were wrong. I have a Monroe County Sheriff’s deputy who will back up the fact that I know what I am talking about. Whoever made that sushi should be advised that this is fraud. Stop cheating...
