Jellystone Frankenmuth is to camping what White Castle is to dining. I took my son up to Jellystone for his first tent-camping trip. We had a fun day playing mini-golf, going to the shops in Frankenmuth, swimming, and playing in their (little) park area. The staff was very friendly in the gift shop and at the registration area. The day was fun, the night was not. The “Rustic Tent” sites are placed in back of the campground, with a picturesque view of industrial buildings. Their security flood lights are perfect for making sure you can barely see the stars, even on a clear summer night. The tent sites are roughly the size of an average driveway with no space between you and your neighbor. From 11:00 pm – 12:00am we listened to our neighbor making fart sounds and laughing (this was an adult). From 12:00-12:30 am we were treated the sounds of 9 adults setting up 3 tents and two fire pits in the next tent site over (roughly 30 feet away). From 12:30 am – 2:15 am we enjoyed the lively sounds of 9 adult campers in one campsite listening to music, clinking bottles, and laughing. They didn’t stop at 2:15 am, but that is when I packed up my son and drove home. Neither of us could sleep, and the non-stop smoke of multiple fires upwind from us was triggering his asthma. His first tent-camping night was a bust, and he was so bummed that he couldn’t go swimming again in the morning. The most frustrating part is that there is no one to call. The main phone line doesn’t work after 10:00 pm, and they do not give out a phone number for security. At around 12:30 a worker came and yelled at them to put their fire out because the flames were over 6 ft tall, but they never came back to check on them before we left. Quiet time is after 10:00 pm, but it is clearly not enforced. Pros: Nice office staff. Convenient location to Frankenmuth shops. Cons: Cramped campground. No waterfront. No nature trails or woods to explore. Rustic tent sites feel like sleeping in a field next to a Walmart parking lot. Lots of adult campers there to get drunk and party. No quiet. No fresh-air. Summary: If your idea of a good time is sitting in a grassy field and getting drunk with your buddies while being surrounded by families with kids, this is the camp for you! If you are a parent trying to have a meaningful camping experience with your children in nature,...
Read moreWe were aware that sites did not have fire pits at them before we got there. We were not aware how absolutely tiny the sites are. We had a group of four trailers and luckily we all got next to each other because you get cozy with your neighbor real fast. There's barely room for a picnic table in your lot. The people across from put their canopy out and it actually went over top of the next trailers slide out (see pictures)
If that wasn't bad enough, every single one of the people in our party of four sites had words with security on their way in to the park. The security is unnecessarily rude. There is a crotchety old man that drives on a golf cart and literally everything out of his mouth is negative. I don't know if he's the owner or head of security. He was berating a young lady when I went into the office to check in. She was 20 minutes early to check in, as was I and the people in line in front of me. But he chose to tell this young lady how much she was inconveniencing them by showing up early and how they can't do their jobs. I get his point, but A) don't let us check in early, B) don't berate your guests because even though I wasn't in her party I still heard everything and though he was a total A hole.
The security girl sitting at the gate made rude remarks to everyone and at one point I said I'll never come back here again. She called Mr crotchety over and told him I said that and he proceeded to follow me to see what site I was staying in to make sure I wasn't allowed back in there. My group had about 8 kids all together and at separate times had run ins for no reason with security or Mr. Crotchety. It's like they don't want campers there. I've never had any issue at a campsite and this place seems to create issues for people in my party and other people I noticed around the site not in my party. You could hear complaints everywhere of how small the sites were and how rude they were.
The girls I'm the shop and at registration were very nice and the pools/hot tub seemed nice and clean. The kids had fun which is why I didn't give one star. But none of us plan...
Read moreVery clean campground. Our site was a back in full hook up deluxe site on an end lot that accommodated our class A motorhome with 3 slides and also fit a pick up truck with a 8 ft bed. We had pletty of room on our rv patio side. Verizon was full bars and camp wifi was solid. However, we paid to have this. We've been camping for 20 years and have experienced these same accommodations and amenities at other campgrounds, but not at this high price. We chose this campground due to their close proximity (walking distance) to Frankenmuth's tourist area. Having said that, we also took the FREE bus shuttle that you can pick up almost directly across the street from the campground. We would take this into Frankenmuth and then walk back to campground around 9-10pm. In the summer most tourist shops closed at 8pm. The rest closed at 9pm. Shuttle runs July 14-Dec 23, 2023 every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and loop continuously roughly every 20 minutes from 12pm-8pm. It is air conditioned and wheelchair accessible. This is a WONDERFUL accommodation that the city of Frankenmuth provides and I hope they continue to provide for years to come! Great option for families with small children or the elderly. We used our truck to transport our kayaks to the ADA accessible launch at Heritage park about 2-3 minutes up the road. Very easy and scenic trip toward downtown Frankenmuth. Saw ducks, heard clock bells chime in Frankenmuth, saw the tourist paddle wheel boat, and experienced the waterfall and rock dam from the river. Would recommend this campground and we...
