SugarHigh Bakery — Restaurant in City of Frankenmuth

This place is AWESOME! Wife and I saw them on Cupcake Wars TMNT episode and my first thought was if Frankenmuth bakers can't win for TMNT they're dead to me. THEY WON! So now I had to try the pizza cupcake and their other winners. We've gone back a few times a year ever since and tried new flavors along with our favorites. We tried a few cupcakes that we thought we're good, which was rather disappointing because the rest were AWESOME! The King, all the TMNT winners, Hot Chocolate, Guinness, Black Forest Cherry and a few others that I can't think of right now we're all AWESOME! My wife wishes the tiramisu was closer to the real thing (more coffee!) but it was still a good cupcake and the blackout was really just like a bumpy layer cake but it was still good.

We saw them on Cake Wars too and even though they only took second place it was due to decorating. The judges thought that they had the best tasting cake.

The bottom line is these people are awesome bakers and everything tastes good. Most things they have taste great, so make sure to get something special if you go.

My take:

Great cupcakes: TMNT winners, the King, maple bacon, guinness, coconut, drumstick, apple streusel.

Really good: Chocolate Cherry, pink lemonade, peanut butter cup (borderline great), oreo, tiramisu. Pretty much anything taking a favorite treat and making it a cupcake.

Good, but skipable: Blackout (may as well eat a bumpy layer cake, same thing) the peanut sheet cake (may as well get the drumstick).

I know I left some cupcakes out and I haven't tried ALL of them. To be clear, all of these cupcakes are good. Some have to be better than others though because that's life....so if you're thinking....so if you're thinking do I really want a cupcake with candied pepperoni or do I just want a bumpy layer cupcake, get the...

My mom and me love this bakery so much so that yesterday after watching cupcake wars on tv I decided it was well worth the 40 minute drive to Frankenmuth just to get us some. Both of us think the Black Forest cupcake is the best one they always have. It is a deliciously dense chocolate cake with whipped topping for icing with shaved chocolate and a cherry on top, it also has an amazing cherry fruit filling right in the middle of the cake.

We also always buy two more that we have never tried before and I have to say the maple bacon cupcake might just be my new favorite! It was a very strong maple bacon taste but is also sweet and spicy and the cake itself is very light and moist. It is literally topped with bits of bacon and chocolate shavings, so so worth the calories.

The last one we tired I cannot remember for sure the name but it was called, maybe strawberry lemonade but don't quote me on that. It is a strawberry cupcake which was also light, sweet, and moist. The frosting to me tasted like a lemon buttercream but I'm not an expert so again I cannot be 100% sure but it was covered in sprinkles and topped with a sugar strawberry shaped candy that tasted great with the rest of the...

I’ve been a loyal customer of Sugar High for over a decade, and it just keeps getting better. Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting Brittany, one of their absolute rockstars. While enjoying a ridiculously delicious Halloween-themed cupcake (seriously, the best I’ve ever had), Brittany took the time to share how much she loves her job as a cupcake decorator—and it’s clear that she’s not just good at it, she’s RIDICULOUSLY talented.

I got to meet up with her outside of work hours and she showed me photos of the gorgeous cakes and cookies she’s decorated. You can see her passion in every single detail. It’s rare to find someone who truly loves what they do, and Brittany is just overflowing with enthusiasm and talent. Sugar High is lucky to have her, and in my opinion, she absolutely deserves a raise.
