If youâre looking for a dining experience that embodies overpriced mediocrity wrapped in false charm, look no further than The Mouzon House. Whatâs marketed as a âfarm-to-table gemâ is little more than an overhyped tourist trap resting on its location and storybook exterior rather than the actual quality of food or service.
The atmosphere tries hard to feel âquaintâ and âintimate,â but instead feels cramped and noisyâlike being packed into someoneâs outdated parlor with strangers elbow-to-elbow. The dĂ©cor looks tired rather than historic, and instead of Southern hospitality, youâre met with staff who seem more inconvenienced than welcoming.
And the food? Easily the most disappointing part. Dishes arrive lukewarm, bland, and grossly underwhelming for the price point. The menu reads like an upscale Southern dream, but the execution falls flatâthink watery gumbo, rubbery shrimp, and flavorless sides that couldâve been scooped out of a cafeteria tray. For what they charge, youâd expect at least consistency, if not actual excellence. Instead, itâs the kind of food that makes you wish you had gone somewhereâanywhereâelse in Saratogaâs vibrant restaurant scene.
The service does nothing to redeem the experience. Long waits for simple requests, inattentive servers who vanish when you actually need something, and an air of pretentiousness that makes you feel like you should be grateful they allowed you to eat there at all.
To make matters worse, the cocktails are watery and uninspired, and the wine list is marked up beyond reason. Pair that with the disappointing food and youâre left with one of the worst value dining experiences in town.
Saratoga Springs has plenty of excellent options for diningâunfortunately, The Mouzon House is not one of them. Save your money, save your evening, and skip this overrated...
Read moreWhile in Saratoga Springs for an overnight on our way to Montreal, we had dinner at The Mouzon House, knowing little more than its history and its farm-to-table philosophy and menu model. We struck gastronomic gold! Although we didn't have a reservation, the host and manager were committed to finding a way to accommodate us, which they did. We were seated upstairs in an open air room, with a subtly rustic vibe and surprisingly comfortable seating, given the bench seats along the wall. Our servers were well-informed about the menu and attentive without being intrusive. Now, on to the food! To begin, I had an amazing cucumber watermelon gazpacho. The ingredients were so fresh and colorful, and the combination of flavors was exquisite. I wish the bowl were bottomless. For my entree, I had the herb roasted chicken. Although some would balk at the size of the breast, it was certainly enough and much preferred to the flavorless, hormone-filled buxomed variety found at typical restaurants and grocery stores. The potatoes were cooked just right. Both chicken and potatoes were served in a light gravy bursting with flavor from various herbs. My husband had a Caesar salad with shrimp grilled to perfection and, as with everything, bursting with flavor. The cost of our meal was just right considering the sources and freshness of our food and the experience of our tastebuds...

Expect to shell out 25 bucks a dish, from appetizers to desert you're going to see those numbers stack up on your bill very quickly. The food itself is ok, but nowhere near as good as it should be to represent the price tag with it. The waitress is very good at keeping the party informed of any changes the kitchen or menu has, and even came out to let me know the kitchen asked if they could change my steak from a London broil to a Skirt Steak; even explaining why they wanted the change. Not bad. Still, the steak I got was nowhere nears as good as some of the ones I've had at half the price. The atmosphere was interesting, giving me vibes of a small room dining experience, similar to one you might have at a bed and breakfast. Though it was a bit on the cold side, with poor heat circulation inside the building. In the end, the main reason we even came was for the Thursday three course meal deal; where you can pick a course and only pay $25. Sounds good right? Well unfortunately they didn't have the deal in place this particular Thursday, and never contacted us to let us know, even though we had called earlier and given them our number. Then to top it off, the host doesn't even honor the deal; asking us if we wanted to leave! The nerve! I can tell you now, we are never...
