Took a short spring break trip to college station and almost booked a traditional hotel like la Quinta or Hilton because we enjoy the continental breakfast and indoor pools. I came across Hotel McCoy and thought it was a very cute, quirky, unique idea. Upon reading the reviews I was a little put-off because a couple people complained about their rooms being dirty or housekeeping coming in at night, by accident. That was concerning, but I also noticed some of the same reviews complained about the most ridiculous things (like oatmeal and poptarts for breakfast which is absolutely adorable). I also noticed that the owner was responding to every single one in a very sweet, concerned manner. This made me want to book with them because I'd rather give my money to a business owner who wants his business to succeed, rather than a corporation who wouldn't give two craps if our stay wasn't good.
Upon arriving, we all were super excited to see everything looked just as amazing as we had hoped. And the people working the lobby were so nice and hospitable. The kids were shocked at all the fun things in the yard and immediately went to play. We tried the oatmeal bar the following two mornings and spent lots of time in the yard and some in the pool. I sent so many pictures to people and posted on my social media sites, and had lots of people asking me what hotel it was.
It is a motel style property so you will hear some outside noise like cars, garbage trucks picking up and people running or screaming. But we had the AC on, brought an air purifier just because it adds extra noise and they have a white noise machine in the room. I think all that is enough to drown the outside noise out. Our room was clean, smelled good and nothing was wrong, broken or out of place. I wish we had brought my small dog because they are pet friendly. I can't say enough good things.
My only suggestions would be these: room 26 did have some issues with the door locks. At first we couldn't figure out how to get it to lock when you are inside but we figured out it needed to be pulled really hard to shut well and then you just lock the bottom manually. We had to do several double and triple takes any time we locked the door...but I have faith the owner is working on updates because I noticed changes had been made due to other complaints in reviews. It was noticable that he took action and didn't ignore the issues. And, although the oatmeal bar is a very unique idea to stand out from the traditional continental breakfasts, I would suggest adding waffles to the menu just because all those toppings would also be amazing on waffles. They already have syrup, jelly and peanut butter, waffles would be great!
If we ever visit college station again, we will definitely be back. Keep up the good work and I wish all the best to...
Read moreThis place is unique! The rooms are clean to some degree (see pics) with a variety of setups. You get a retro mini fridge and microwave, the beds are large and somewhat comfortable, you get a massive, big screen tv, and the rooms come with 2 doors. The front one is by the parking lot and the other takes you into the courtyard where there are a variety of activities and things to do. There’s a big swing, human size chess, a large connect four game, cornhole, a pool, and more. This place wouldn’t be bad, but we have had NOTHING but problems since we got here and that is why I am writing this review and the reason I would not ever stay here again! Although this place is neat, we weren’t here 24 hours and already we have had issues! -The WiFi won’t connect and we contacted the office and they blew us off saying there are issues. Really? So a week of no WiFi which we must have since I must do work! We are forced to use our hotspots which is expensive! -We weren’t here 24 hours & at midnight we were woke up to someone trying to get into our room! When we went to the door with NO peephole and opened it there was a woman saying the office rented our room to her! Seriously??? After she left someone tried to get into our room via the other door with no peephole. So this woman said the same thing that she was rented our room! This place ISN’T busy so there is no excuse for this! Seriously, WTH is wrong with this place? We only received one key for starters, so why did we not get more when there are two of us? Yet, they gave the so-called other keys to our room to these two ladies. What if this happens to us again? Even worse, what if we are out for the day and someone is rented our room and they come in and our stuff wouldn’t be safe? We shouldn’t have to fear, someone entered when we are here and even more if we aren’t. My daughter and I are infuriated and we will NEVER stay at this hotel again! It’s bad enough that we have already paid for the week and we are screwed. Here's some of the other issues we have encountered… Our sink stopper is absolutely disgusting and covered in hair and it isn’t ours and the sheets on the bed are dirty and stained and we aren’t the cause....
Read moreOverall, this place has a lot of potential to undercut the cookie cutter hotels in town and be a nice change of pace for anyone visiting the area. Overall, we loved the vibe of the hotel and felt like some of the unique places we have stayed in on our travels. Almost like if you took a hotel from the Bunkhouse Group, copied the formula, and made a hotel in College Station. Our stay wasn’t perfect, but better than what we would have expected.||That being said, below are the issues we had while staying here:||Check In - When we checked in, the internet wasn’t working and check in took longer than we would have expected. The drink tokens were a nice gift on check in even though we didn’t use them.||Door Code - When we got to our room, the door code didn’t work. I would have expected a typical key card lock, NFC key fob, or a way to open with our phone. It took us way too long for us to get into our room. Eventually we were given the hotel staff room code to get into our room..||Internet - We didn’t have any internet in our room until almost midnight. So our TV and other functions didn’t work on property.||Coffee - Not having coffee in the room is a bummer. Especially with the mini fridge there, it would be a stand out feature to have a mini coffee bar in the room. Especially with what would be needed to make a latte, black coffee, tea, ect. The coffee in a lobby is fine; however, when I tried to get coffee, the coffer thermos was empty. Eventually the front desk staff was able to replenish the coffee.||Bathroom Cleanliness - When I went for a shower before we left, we found a used towel behind the door hanging. Didn’t bother us, but it was obviously missed during house cleaning.||Noise - Like the other reviews, the noise off the highway could be bothersome for a light sleeper.||Overall, if we came back to College Station, we would consider staying here if the price was right. I can tell the staff is trying their best. They just need some quality control and a new internet service provider to be sure that the basics are taken care of. Also, I’d recommend a room lock that didn’t require the internet connection in case...
