Favorite sushi joint in college station! Y'all need to come check it out when y'all in town. There is a private lot where you can park, but it could get packed in the evening.
The ambiance is super chill and the restaurant looks really cool. The owner is really fun to talk to (energetic, and always has a smile on his face), plenty of stores to tell. He has been to a few celebrities houses to make sushi, so I can tell you that he's really good at it. He's always trying to come up with crazy sushi ideas, so, if you have one in mind, let him know! You can even "request" to make your own maki roll (you get to choose what to put inside the maki), or you can ask him to freestyle some for ya. Menu items change every now and then, so the menu pictures on yelp might not be always accurate.
The hours are kinda funky, sometimes they close early if there's not too many customers, or when they step out for family business. You can always call to see if they're open or not (if you're worried they might not be open, late at night or random afternoons).
Anyways, back to the food. Personally, I can't eat raw fish, I can't get over the texture and smell. I love to eat maki and hand rolls though (everything cooked of course)! I'll tell ya, it's amazing if you can't stand raw fish like me! If you ask me what dish I like the most, it's definitely the beef fried rice! The rice is moist, the beef is tender, and it's not drenched in soy sauce and oil like some other restaurants. Yes, the price is a little high, but that's usually common with sushi restaurants. For the quality and service you are getting, I'd say it's...
Read moreIt really pains me to honestly review Azure. I guess the owners name is Sunny. Only because other reviewers say so. He didn’t introduce himself and spoke very little English. He is definitely a hard worker and puts out a good product. Other than the volcano roll, which was a mess in a bowl. The main problem is with the service. He has no help. And in a town with so many college kids, it must be his choice to work alone. There is someone else in the kitchen I think. When we arrived it was my wife and I and another 4 top. By the time we were done, it was us and the 4 top, 2 other 2 tops, a 3 top and another 4 top. A pretty good crowd. As he prepares the sushi himself, it took forever to receive our food. The other tables that came in after us waited forever for water, then their food. What bothered me as well, is that a small Hispanic guy walked in with 2 friends. Talked to Sunny and he directed him to serve the tables water. So without washing his hands, he served ice water to the other tables. He then grabbed 3 beers for him and his friends. They were also served before the other people that were already seated and waiting for a bit. We eventually had to walk up to the sushi bar to ask for our check because we were tired of waiting for the final roll we ordered over an hour and a half ago. The rolls we had were good, but the service is desperately lacking and unfortunately his restaurant may not survive with this current business model. I’ll try again next season when we’re in town. Hopefully he will have some employees that can serve patrons properly and...
Read moreI have tried and tried to find better sushi in my hometown and across the world but am yet to have found it. While not cheap, this is the best bang you will get for your buck at any sushi restaurant. Sunny (owner and sushi chef) spent years as a top sushi chef in Japan before coming to College Station Tx. His attention to detail is absolutely amazing in both his service, and cooking. The rolls are works of culinary art and his ingredients are top notch quality. If you are into sushi and know what you like, Sunny has a reputation for making the best freestyle rolls on the spot.
The environment is relatively casual but is a great place for a as well. There is a very good selection of cocktails, imported sakes, and wines to suit any occasion or just a casual night out.
On a crowded night, the service can be slow due to the amount of time it takes to prepare each roll and the fact that Sunny makes every roll himself. If you plan on having sushi, don't plan to be in and out in half an hour. Plan to spend some time enjoying the experience as the staff deliver you world class Japanese cooking at a...
