I reserved a room through Expedia for Candlewood Suites over the weekend of November 9th. I made the reservation in late Summer/Early Fall. I was called by the Operations Manager a few days before my stay informing me they were ending their 3rd party services and my reservation was canceled. This was the weekend of the Oklahoma/MU football game and the rates for the rooms around town were skyrocketing. I refused to accept the cancelation, asked for it to be sent to me in writing, and I contacted Expedia about the phone call I received. Before leaving for Columbia, Expedia confirmed my reservation was still active. I also confirmed that I could book on Expedia for following weekends at the same hotel and that the ending 3rd party bookings did not appear to be an accurate statement. Nothing in writing informing me of the cancelation was sent by Candlewood Suites. However, when I arrived, my reservation in the system was indeed canceled. I'm not sure if this is illegal based on a breach of contract but it certainly isn't good customer service. Thankfully the front desk clerk was able to find me an alternative room (not what I booked) and the weekend worked out fine. The hotel room was great and the location is convenient. Beware of using 3rd party services with this hotel during...
Read moreThey staff was extremely accommodating for me and my dog. He was a little big of an issue at the beginning and the staff was very gracious and patient while we got settled.
The 1 800 IGH number that I called about the pet policy had inaccurate information. This hotel has a weight limit of 80 pounds, which my dog was a little over. They made an exception for me since I had called the day before and it wasn't mentioned.
The room was clean and the walls were thick; I barely heard people in other rooms. The bed was really comfortable and the shower was great. It had excellent water pressure and endless hot water. I also really liked that they had dispensers for the shampoo and conditioner to cut down on plastic waste. The dispensers are also much easier to use than those tiny bottles.
The area seemed safe and the location was convenient. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they have a security guard that patrols at night; I saw them driving around while I was walking my dog and I definitely felt more secure. There were also plenty of restaurants that delivered in the area.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I'll be traveling to STL soon for a major surgery and a few more doctor's appointments and I'll stay here (minus the...
Read moreCheck in is at 3 p.m. We arrived at 4:30 and our room was not ready. Even with that irritation, I would have gladly given this hotel five stars and recommended it highly, were it not for the mattress. It is, quite possibly, the worst mattress I have ever slept on. The first night, I thought it was just me, but my husband had the same complaints. It's like a nice mattress pad on top of plywood!
The room was nice. Full kitchen with a two-burner smooth stovetop, full size refrigerator and a dishwasher (which is very, very noisy so don't even think about running it while you sleep or watch TV). Also a nice pantry area if you plan to buy groceries and make use of the kitchen. Basic pots and pans, plates, glasses and flatware.
Mostly clean, but carpet and laminate left our while socks quite nasty. I find this to be true in lots of hotels, but it would be nice to have a clean floor.
Towels were decent quality, but not soft. Wouldn't hurt to throw a little fabric softener in the rinse or use a dryer sheet.Again, I find this to be a problem with lots of hotels.
Close to a number of moderately priced dining options. Not a bad hotel, really, but that mattress is a deal breaker.
